I begin to wonder if you're trolling. Imagine the tower of flames if I said Half-Life 2 was appalling because I got bored walking around a drab train station talking to people wearing denim, so I quit. (Which I didn't; despite the dreariness, I slogged through that part, got past the tutorial, and into the actual game.)J-Val said:Started the first level, got bored running along recycled corridor after corridor, stopped playing. I'd rather play the original GoldenEye for the N64 than play Halo.
Well i agree with what Anton said, also, to point out your "Recycled" corridor argument... it was in a friggen military space ship, what'd you expect, a different style on every corner? those things are made for efficiency not for looks. You havent experienced any of the big gameplay elements of halo if you only did first level, and its definetely not enough to be able to write it off :\ Halo 1 is the best in the series imo, none of the others had such epic battles (remember attack on the controll room? or even better, two treasons) those missions really made my day, and i have literly played the hundreds of times and ways, heck i've completed halo 1 on legendary without shooting once, melee onlyJ-Val said:This is probably going to attract some flames, but definetely the original Halo.
The graphics were mediocre, certainly not legendary for that time, the gameplay was boring and repetitive, the AI was as slow as a drugged sloth, and it was basically just boring. To this day, I dread playing the second level of Halo. I mean, the first time you do it it's pretty cool, the way the canyons are just opened up to allow you to fuck off and complete the mission as you saw fit. I also loved how you could look straight up and see another continent.Anton P. Nym said:The very next level in Halo after the one you quit takes you to the surface of Halo; no recycled corridors there (admittedly, some do show up later) as it's largely outdoors, some of the best graphics in the first game show up there and some of the best gameplay. (In my opinion, of course.) It also introduces vehicular combat, and cooperating with friendly AI characters in squad-level fights.
I'd encourage you to at least try that second level before writing off Halo. Maybe you still won't like it, but you'll at least have had a better taste of the game.
(Heck, I even played through the Space Giraffe demo twice before roundfiling it as unsuitable.)

Graphics were good for the time. And what would you expect? The Xbox was fresh out. People were testing the limits of the console at the time.J-Val said:This is probably going to attract some flames, but definetely the original Halo.

The Halo 3 remake of that section was awesome.soladrin said:"fires away" nah just kidding, while being a fun map, i agree that the second mission got less atractive on replays, but mission 5 and 8 more then make up for thisactually so do 3 and 4 XD loved m all i hate the last level though
Kay well, for the problem wasnt that you were against it, heck, i just put a big rant on halo 3 up hereJ-Val said:There seems to be a massive taboo about insulting Halo.
Plenty of other people have played other games for a short while and then ditched them, yet they don't get accused of making a premature judgement.
I'm not trying to troll Halo. I just personally found it to be a boring dull slog of an experience. To me, if a game can't keep you entertained long enough for you to reach it's good parts, then it's a bad game. And thats just what I got from Halo.
And FPSes don't need to be repetitive. It's very easy to mix things up.
And the AI isn't bad. It just seemed very slow. I'm pretty sure it doesn't take the most advanced script to make someone actually shoot at an enemy.
If someone found Half-Life 2 boring, then that's fine. I personally don't find it boring, but I just have a different opinion. The same goes for Halo.
Sure, I can't discredit the whole game, as I haven't played through it. But Halo just doesn't click, and the constant fights just aren't fun. I'm not going to plough through a tedious game just to prove a point.
Thats what preference is about.
To me, GoldenEye is better than Halo because it was FUN. Halo meanders inbetween realistic and non-realistic, and so the fighting to me just becomes stale.
That's just my opinion. If you don't like it, well, thats what freedom of speech is.
Again, who condemned your right to free speech?J-Val said:There seems to be a massive taboo about insulting Halo.

>Again, try the higher difficulty levels.
And FPSes don't need to be repetitive. It's very easy to mix things up.
>Which it actually did. The enemies in the game each have their own combat qualities, if you'd bother to notice. Chief vs. Elite is very different from Chief vs. Hunter.
And the AI isn't bad. It just seemed very slow. I'm pretty sure it doesn't take the most advanced script to make someone actually shoot at an enemy.

As in Severance Blade of Darkness? Hmm, I thought it was pretty good for the time actually, as a hack n slash.soladrin said:mhm.. theres so many shitty games.. wich to pick.. the shittiest i own..
Severance, i played it for 5 mins and just exited laughing my ass off at how crappy it was.
Whether I was trying to flame bait or not, it seems to have had the same effect.soladrin said:Kay well, for the problem wasnt that you were against it, heck, i just put a big rant on halo 3 up hereanyhow, it was the way you were saying it, it sounded(read, bite me) like you were trying to flame bait.
Oops... missed it. Sorry.xbeaker said:Sylocat, Superman 64 was mentioned. Back on the first page I think. Never played it myself. I have only heard the legend.

It wasn't so much bad...just mediocre.capcom_konami said:I'd better prepare to get flamed for this one:
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
THAT is the worst game I've ever played. (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow was the most disappointing, but, looking back, that was actually a very fun game, just not nearly as good as Circle of the Moon). The only reason I actually beat it was so I could bash it to death and actually have some ground to stand on while doing it.
The graphics were technically good. They were artistically as bland as lard. I seriously feel like throwing up every time I see a shiny, circular, bronze object now. They were washed-out, the use of color was terrible, the environments were varied, but repetitive within themselves, the character designs were ugly (and I mean REALLY, REALLY ugly characters), the enemies were unmemorable, easy, and bland to an incredible degree (whenever I look back on the game, Jak fights black blobs) I was promised an enchanting fantasy world. I got an annoying cartoon world.
The sound was probably the best thing, and it was also horrid. The bongo music is the entertainment equivalent of counting the atoms on your wall. Fun. The sound effects are like putting a few sheets of paper in the blender. Not bad necessary, just very, very bland and boring. The game's one good point is the great and funny voice acting.
The gameplay. How I love to bash thee, oh gameplay. Imagine the most boring thing ever. Now imagine doing that while listening to old people talk about macaroni and cheese... for all eternity. Now imagine those two things, except they are bland, easy, repetitive, and uninspired as all heck. You're still not there. I can't begin to express how boring this game is. It literally never does anything interesting or unexpected. the combat is awful, what few puzzles there are consist of brainlessly jumping on platforms in the right order. Saying the difficulty is consistent would only be half right, that said, it's consistently either frustratingly, cheaply hard (but never intense, challenging, or satisfying), or monotonously, boringly easy (but never fun). Most of the missions involve killing some things, finding some things, or some either too easy or frustrating platforming (see above). For example, one mission had me whacking crystals to light a boring, dull, ugly cave. However, there are many timed jumps in that section, and the crystals stayed lit for approx. 3 seconds, so after spending 3 hours trying to beat said mission, I basically said, "the hell with this, I'm playing Devil May Cry!!" Actually 3 hours would be an extreme exaggeration, because, due to the easy nature of the game and the extremely short length, I only had 4 hours on my file at the end of the game. The worst 4 hours of my entire life. Games always take me a while to beat (even short ones), especially 3D platformers, which says something about the game's lenght and difficulty.
I get a headache thinking about this game. It was the worst experience of my life.
