Thanks. I'm not a religious person, in fact, I'm one of the least religious people I've ever seen. I just hate when ignorant people are spreading lies based on misinformation, TV propaganda and the voices in the head.
No no, that's fine. I'm a Christian, and Cuddly Tomato is an atheist (I'm pretty sure I remember him saying that at one point), but we both agree that people should have the right to believe what they want without theophobes telling them how silly they are for believing in a God/gods and/or being part of a religious group.
Can't we all just get along?

Elaborate.
Don't bother elaborating. You have no idea what communism is.

True communism has nothing to do with what Stalin did. Read some Carl Marx.

Ever heard of the "Marxist rebels" in any of a hundred civil wars? Yah, that's him.
I wanted him to elaborate, he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.
whoops! sry dude.
LOL, its ok, apology accepted, I kinda tilted my head at the screen wondering why you was bitching at me but understood it was a misunderstanding.

Also don't shorten your words, the mods dont like it here, my grammar is appaling and I'm worried i'll get banned for it!

Like Albert Einstein once said:

"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

Oh, if everyone just listened to that man once in a while, we would have no problems with religious wars, conflicts or stereotypes.

Also, I'm Christian too, but I deeply respect every other religion. And when I say "religion", I mean all Christians, Buddhists, Muslims and Jews. Sorry if I have forgotten about other major religion, but those four are the only ones I know something about. Besides, they have people around the world worshipping. Although I don't think most of the people actually worship Buddha... But hey, some do believe he's a god figure, some just like his teachings and way of life.

But that's a discussion for other thread.

So about the Original Post: The worst idea humanity had was hatred towards people with different belief, lifestyle or nationality.

Eating the bacon.
He was saving that bacon...

Seriously; Either religion, hate or industry.
Even though we wouldn't have much of the stuff we have now without it, industry is basically what is killing the planet.

Hello ppl's,

So I'm watching discovery last night and it's some space program about all the neato shit you can find beyond our solar system. Ok, cool. They start talking about the satellite we sent out like 20 years ago called "Voyageur" 1? maybe 2? not sure. you probably have heard of it even if you do not know the name. We put greeting messages in it in over 50 languages, we put our physiology, and something else...

That something else is what I have a problem with. We put the instructions on how to find earth in there. So now, whenever anyone finds the stupid thing, hopefully they are friendly or we are frickin toast.

Think. In EVERY sci-film, video game, whatever, the location of the homeworld is always the most closely guarded secret, and we have just sent the flipping thing out there for anyone to pick up.

I think it's the most colossally stupid thing we, as a race, have ever done.

Thoughts?
Coming down from the trees.

I agree completely. Don't want to get into a huge religious debate, but it just isn't for me. I know what I believe.

Religion is the WORST thing man invented, and then you say 'hate'? Really?

While I still say alcohol, I'll throw in bigotry too.

Whoa whoa.
There is a difference between not being a religious person, and thinking it's the worst thing man invented. The two notions certainly don't have to meet.

The Plow, as it is ultimately the starting point of civilization and therefore the catalyst for any of the stupid things we've done with ourselves since.

To create a thread where we list and remember them all and lose faith in Humanity.

My joke has probably already been done, so in all seriousness I would say The Titanic as a whole. Littered with design flaws, apparently.

We would have nothing if there was no religion. Don't forget that back in the days, people didn't have science to explain everything. Sooner or later, they would just die out of panic because they wouldn't know why the thunder just killed 5 people, why the forest burned down and why the river flooded their crops and destroyed them.

If you don't believe in things you can't see, do you believe in other planets besides Earth? Or that stars are just flashing bling blings to look at? Well, because it's more than sure that you won't ever see them as they are really.

Anyway, that's a pretty pointless life. I mean, you live, you eat, sleep... And then you die. And nothing. It would really make me sad all the time, since it would just mean that everything on this planet is pointless if there's no afterlife.

Well it's both sides of the spectrum, religion is supposed to be about love and forgiveness and the emotion of hate, all bad things. If everybody liked everyone pretty much the same, it would be great.

Gosh, so many uninformed and depressing posts in this thread. I feel obliged to debunk!

1.Nuclear- God, the amount of good this has done. Think of everything that involves radiation! That's Microwaves, radiography, radiotherapy, a whole shitload of knowledge about space, remote controls, more advanced heating and lighting. Nuclear power. Nuclear Fusion on Earth by 2025 (I think that was the prediction).

And we get Nuclear bombs on the side. So what? It can easily be argued that they have stopped wars and ushered in a new age of piece among those who have them.

2.Religion- Well, there have been wars in the name of Religion, but a lot of our early scientific discoveries were made by monks and other devout people. They also made large (Sometimes false) contributions to medicine and education. Literacy and the printing press can both be traced back to religion. As can communism.

3.Communism- What is everyone's problem with communism? Sure, it hasn't worked yet, but it hasn't been genuinely implemented yet, has it? Jeez, the amount of hate on it you'd think it was some kind of disease. Stop following the crowd and stop listening to the propaganda.

If religion is about love and forgiveness, then how is that bad?

I fully agree that we all should just get along, but I find it odd coming from somebody who just suggested that something over 4 billion people in the world are a part of (religion in general) is one of the worst things ever. I'm sure those people wouldn't appreciate the remark.

Can't we all just get along?

If you are a Christian and you hate someone, you can't hope for Heaven. Because if you hate something, it's a sin and your confession is invalid if you still hate someone. Hell, if you go to the sacrament of confession and don't care if you hate or not, it's even a worse sin than if you haven't confessed at all.

Depends on the religion. Muslims, Jews and Christians believe that after you die, you do everything you love the most all the time. But if you were bad (I mean, REALLY bad, like a murder on purpose or something like that and you don't confess it), you go to Hell. At least that's what Jews and Christians believe in, not sure what's in Islam.

Buddhists and Hindu (aw yeah, I forgot about them... sorry for that) believe that if you were good, you are reincarnated into a higher form of life. If you were bad, you become something inferior to human.

Ah, but I do believe in an afterlife. I also believe in other planets, other life. There's a lot out there. I guess I should have explained my post better. ORGANISED religion, I have a problem with. I just sometimes feel that because I have my very own personal beliefs that don't quite match up with any of the major religions, I'm some kind of heretic or something. Therefore I simply say I don't believe in it. It just feels easier than explaining myself each time.

You bring up a good point about a pointless life. I'd hate it if this was it. You always need something to look forward to, even if it's simply what happens after your death.

You don't have to believe in everything a religion says.

For example, as long as you try to live good and behave properly, you can consider yourself a Christian. Even if you do not go to the church every week and so on.

Oh, and Buddhism is very forgiving. Because it's technically not a religion per se, unless you believe that Buddha is a god now after he died.
