The Complete Guide to Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse
Firstly, these are not taken from another Source, well not copied off from one anyway, some Points however may be quite familiar to some People who have read the Zombie Survival Guide or similar works.
Now lets get to the good bits.
Number 1
Travel light. Only carry as much as you need, do not overburden yourself, or others with stuff that is not essential to survival. Usually you can find Stuff along the Way, in towns at least.
One Backpack is all you need, however make sure it sits comfortably and is easy to get out of should the Undead grab hold of it. Basicly allow it to easily slide off your Shoulders if need be.
Number 2
Hygiene. Wash regularly if at all possible. However avoid any sort of Public Restrooms, or publicly available Watersources like Rivers. If you need to wash, and you only really need to do so about twice per week, try to use pre-bottled Water or similar sources. At the beginning the Shower is still save, however avoid any orifices, that being the prominent south of the belt and pretty much everything on your face like nose, eyes, mouth and ears. If the Virus or whatever is transmitted by Water as well, you would get infected. Also avoid wounds or cuts you may have.
For Daily Hygiene, use wet towels or similar. You can buy them, or rather loot them from a few Stores, the wet Baby Wipers are good for this.
Number 3
Travel in a Group. This may be a stupid Idea for some, or utterly essential for others. But a Group is much better suited for survival. However, do not have a Group with more than 8 People. Traveling is essential, while you can fortify yourself, no place is 100% safe, which means you will eventually have to move on. It also allows the Group to spread out in case of attack, to prevent being surrounded by the Undead. Do not value one member of the Group over another due to a set of skills, this only results in the Group being unable to function, each Member is essential. However if someone is bitten, or caught by the Undead, if at all possible, give him or her a Mercy Kill. Being killed is preferable to turning into one of them.
When going for Supplies, always move in a team of two, you can cover more ground than if you move as a whole group, as well as being able to at least defend yourself and have someone watch your back.
If you have more People than 8 in your Group, divide the Group into 2 or more depending on how many People there are and travel on seperate Paths with set Meeting Points, this prevents your Group from essentially becoming too large to function and move. Old People and Invalids should be avoided as at all possible. While that may sound cruel, the survival of the Group depends on being able to move, fast if necessary, People with broken Legs or such cant obviously do so.
Number 4
Weapons. Avoid any Gun. Guns require Maintenance and unless you know how to do so, you should avoid it entirely based on that. Also you are limited to how many Bullets you have, additional ammo costs space and weight, slowing you down considerably, reload being another Problem.
For Weapons, stick to melee Weapons if possible. Bats, Crowbars, essentially any blunt Weapon is preferable over any other. Blades can dull, break or become stuck. While bats can break for example, they are more easily replaced and do not entirely remove your Weapon from you.
Also always carry a secondary Weapon, if possible, one main weapon which is good for keeping the Undead at bay, you do not have to kill them as long as they cant reach you, while having another for more close spaces.
If you have need of a Ranged Weapon, go to a hunting store and take a Bow, while this may seem stupid at first, there are several advantages, Arrows are lighter, easy to come by given the ease of access to hunting stores, they are utterly silent and you can retrieve the arrows once the threat is dealt with. Practice with it!
Good Weaponchoices are as follows. Crowbar, Fireaxe, Hammer, Bat, Pole/Staff (Improvised) and Bats, especially Cricket Bats due to having 2 Options for Attack. The Blunt big side can be used for easy defence, while the smaller edge is durable and can cause enough blunt trauma to take out a zombie, which also makes the weapon last longer.
Avoid Fire at all costs. While useful in the long run, and from a distance at least, it takes a while before the Fire has caused enough damage for the zombie to become immobile. When they are close, they will not succumb to it before tearing your face off and most likely setting you on fire.
Number 5
Clothing. Any clothing that does NOT fit tightly to your Body is stupid. Skirts, Coats and the like should be discarded and exchanged for fitting Clothing. Leather Jackets and generally anything made of thick sturdy leather is a good Choice. Cut your hair short, being dragged away by your flowing locks of hair is not fun. For Shoes, Combat Boots and equivalents are perfect choices. They are generally sturdy, have thick soles and most come with metal caps in the front.
Number 6
Movement. Do not run, it will tire you out. If the Zombies are incapable of fast movement, there is no Point you have to move quickly yourself. A fast walking speed will usually suffice for the most Part. Avoid motorized vehicles, they create noise, and gas runs out eventually, leaving you potentially trapped inside a big horde.
Create several Safehouses. Close to Malls if possible. This allows you to potentially fall back to them in case of emergency. Do not stay inside the Mall however as generally they are built around large open Terrain and you can easily be surrounded. If no other Option is available, always have a Way out. If you need to travel far, bicycles are the best Option, they do not need gas to run, are generally quiet and can easily be replaced if necessary. However do not use them to cross through a mass of the Undead.
Also, do not turn on the light. It may attract either the Undead, or other Survivors who might lure them there.
Number 7
Food. When scavenging for supplies, food is your first priority, eat first anything that spoils, raw meat, fruits and the like. Dried and packaged Food comes afterwards. Avoid Sodas like Coke or similar. For one, they are unhealthy and prolonged use can lead to sideeffects of them eventually, they are however fine in small doses. Water is much more valuable, although as stated before, avoid any water in rivers or similar, as it can be tainted.
Well thats about it. Its a list i made up a while back :3
