Final Fantasy VII was the first i played and my absolute favorite i played of the series, the others i played ranged from: Annoying and Grating (Final Fantasy X), Boring (Final Fantasy XIII) and finally...Downright unbearable (Final Fantasy XII). Granted, i have yet to play Final Fantasy VIII or IX, but i have doubts on whether to approach those entries considering the mixed opinions i hear of them (Especially VIII).

Also, Yes i adored Final Fantasy VII but i am not one of those crazy fans who will raise it to a sort of 'god of all gaming' level so don't worry, i'm aware it isn't perfect but hey..i think its a good game. In other words: To Each their own.

Since Final Fantasy VIII is my favourite in the series and it was the first one I played, i believe this to be true. Kinda like «there´s no true love like the first», y´know? What about you? Tell us what was the first FF game you played. Is it your favourite? Why?
I disagree on both accounts. my first love sucked and i played several final fantasys before i found one i really liked. Though i think the first one i played was final fantasy 6 and it probably would have been my favorite, if i hadnt been so young at the time. maybe ill play it again, now that im old enough to give it the respect it deserves. as it stands, my favorite is probably 7, followed by 10. god, i never thought my choice of video games would make me feel like an emo kid

The first and only FF game I played was X-2. IT was all I was able to rent at the time. I had it for a week, played through half of it, never played it again. Interpret that as you will.

My first FF game was for the gameboy...final fantasy legend. I remember it being hard as fucking hell. I actually beat the second game though. Four Robots with Laser Swords pwned faces. Never played the third Legend.

No wait, I take it back. My first FF game was...shudder...Mystic Quest. I thought it was AWESOME at the time...sigh
So no, it was not my favorite...no amount of nostalgia could save that horrendous game.

Definitely. My first was FFX, and even though the reviews said FFXII was a better game, I just couldn't get into it like I did with X. Haven't really got into XIII either yet, but there's still time for it to blow me away, hopefully.

I the first final fantasy I played was Final Fantasy VII which I guess is my favourite one. But I've also played VIII and XIII and enjoyed VIII almost as much as VII.

Nah. I see what you mean here as a lot of times people have that nostalgia factor but with such a long and diverse series, no one could really say the first they played was the best.

For instance, the first I ever played was 7 and I hated it.

My favourite though is 13.

Interesting theory. Makes sense on a certain level, but not universally applicable. The first Final Fantasy game I played was the original, and while I enjoy it immensely, FF IV is my favorite.

I played them in this order: 4 7 8 10
I like them in this order: 7 10 8 4
People say I should play 6, but I dunno if I can go back to SNES stuff.

Incorrect. The thing is that in The States Final Fantasy 6 and Final Fantasy 7 were most people's introduction to the series. It's just a coincidence that those are also the best :p

Voice acting and realistic graphics distanced the series from the West considerably due to their conformance with a very, very Japanese cultural context. Before that the series wasn't really heavily advertised in the West, so not many people played 1 or 4 (also known as 2?).

Also my favorite is Final Fantasy Tactics, but I'm not sure that really counts.

I'm also one of the few people that liked Mystic Quest. I know, crucify me.

Same as you, I think so too since I can't see what's so good about FF7, nor why people hate 8, so there must be some sort of bias in play.

Close on the theory, but not quite. FFVII was the first JRPG to really get wide spread exposure in the West, was an exceptional RPG and for many people not just their first Final Fantasy but their first JRPG and left a huge first impression. As such, it's not really a theory but rather a sympton of FFVII's market success, and the rest is coincidental. In general when you're talking about the FF series people that played JRPG's in the early 8-16 bit days settle on FFVI as their favourite, then the big chunk of people that joined in on FFVII chooses that one, and anyone after can be all over the place.
