8 was my first, and I enjoyed 7, and 1 better, though that may be because I could never figure out the junction stuff

Disagree. First I played was...crap, gimme a second. maybe 8 or 9? Anyway, Tactics (original and PSP remake) still stands as the only FF I have ever actually liked, and I'd given quite a few FF's a try before that one.

My first was the final fantasy 3 remake on DS and it was definitely my favorite, the world was large and used an overworld so it didn't take too long to get to places, the plot was good but didn't get in the way when you wanted to explore and grind and whatnot which made you feel like you were actually playing it yourself and not just riding on a rollercoaster. The combat system was a good and, again, made you feel like you were in complete control, the job system was awesome.
I could go on and on...

Disagree. But only because I played X-2 first.

I hated that series for a really long time after that until I played 9.
But I still dislike most of it. 9 was just an amazing game that I felt was way better than the others.

what kind of logic is this? the first I played WAS the first game, and it is inferior to almost all of the others. Please give a better reason next time.

Disagree. The first I played was VI, but my all-time favorite has to be V (although it is pretty damned close).

I think your theory is flawed fundamentally, though not a bad idea on paper. The first Final Fantasy game I played was FFX, which is a great game and one that I absolutely love. However, heretic that I am, my favourite so far is actually FFXII. Yes, the 'one with Vaan', that bastardised the series forever (according to some), is my favourite Final Fantasy game. I actually like the characters, even Vaan and Penelo. I thought the story was pretty good, despite the not-so-subtle Star Wars parallels. I loved the combat and thought it was actually done really well, especially the Quickening system, and I liked the realism inherent to having enemies on the world screen. The seamless transition to the battle screen made the game much more immersive, and much quicker and more streamlined, in my opinion. And the open world aspect was pretty awesome, although I have no problems whatsoever with linear gameplay, unlike some people (i.e. everyone who complained, entirely without grounding or reason, about the linear section in FFXIII despite the fact that earlier FF games were much more linear all the way through... :p).

There is no logic behind it.

I was just wondering how much does nostalgia affects one´s ability to judge a videogame. Since I prefered my first FF and so did a lot of people whom I talked to...it seemed like a valid point of view. The escapist, with its large and active community, was a perfect platform to confirm or disprove this «theory».

Does this seem like «a better reason» to you?

I played Final Fantasy VIII first.

I still consider Final Fantasy IX the greatest PS1 game ever.

I played FF1 First, Followed by FF2, 4, 5, 6 and 7.
My Favorite was FF4.

The First game you play usually is the one that gets you interested in the series.

Mmm, no. My first was *the* first Final Fantasy, and I hate that game. I've played and finished every single one, and FFX is my favorite.

My first one was Final Fantasy 7 and while I do love it, 10 and 9 would have to be my favorites.

Seeing as how when FF first got big my brother wouldn't let me touch his games the order in which I saw and played them are different.

Order I saw them:
7, 8, 9, 10, 3(DS), 14

Order I've played them:
10, 3, 9, 7

And my favorite is 9.

I have to agree. My first was II (the SNES version of IV), and it's still my favorite today. VII is a close second, though.

Given that my favorite was the sixth / FF Tactics and I started with the first...I think I have to disagree with the theory.
This, not counting short experience with 4 and 9 at younger ages.
