I thought I was going to argue against your assertion, I had many counterpoints in mind, followed by very pertinent examples.

Somehow as I type now, however, I can only agree with you.

Assuming there ARE superhumans for you to mind-control.

I'm pretty sure immortality would be the greatest superpower. For obvious reasons. Mind control me all you want, YOU'RE. GOING. TO DIE.
Immortality would suck. [http://www.cracked.com/article_18708_5-reasons-immortality-would-be-worse-than-death.html]
Hey, i'll take my chances. When this planet blows up, i'll journey through the stars looking for new civilizations. And since my perception of time speeds up, it won't even feel like a long time. Win-win.
immortality doesn't mean invulnerability. Have you ever seen the series Baccano. They had guys in the series who were immortal and yet they suffered. Like the guys who were put in a barrel filled with cement and dumped in the east river. They were alive but they were forever drowning and suffocating. It sounds like you will be flying through space suffocating until u find a place with air if u find a place with air. and then u could always get pulled into the sun and burn and suffer a living hell like no other and don't get me started about black holes. Or you could be experimented on by governments forever and no one would ever know

The ability to control time is the best power. There's always a way that mind controllers get screwed, but time controllers can't get hurt by anything.

Everything that can be done with Mind Control can be done with Time Control, without the creepiness of having other people watch you manipulate people.

Oh, this is a silly thread. It starts with the wrong attitude and ends with an argument full of fallacies. If the greatest super power were mind control, then you'd have to make it mind control without limits of range, strain, stamina, or perception. And if you're actually going to argue that it's exactly that, then you forgot to make yourself god. The greatest super power is omnipotence.

Now that that whole conundrum is out of the way, let's talk about bacon. Bacon is way cooler than talking about mind control.

I have a better super-power. It's called omniscience. You know... that thing that GOD supposedly is. To be omniscient is to know everything, to know the universe, to know everything about everything that ever was and ever will be.

Also... let's say you woke up tomorrow with psychic mind control abilities... no one on Earth has super powers (that we know of) except for you. How would you stop a volcano erupting to save the day? How would you stop an invasion of Alien non-biological Mechanoids? The power is limited to biological minds.

What? Why? There are a thousand ways to sneak attack someone without having to shoot a missle at them. For one, you don't have the ability to mind read or anything so you won't know someone's intentions or their presence until it's too late.

For another, you never listed the limitations for your mind control abilities. As an example, super speed could destroy mind control before he could even think about using mind control. The Flash went so fast he accidently got himself stuck in a frozen world where noone could help him because he'd die of old age before they realized he was in trouble. Head-to-head against a telekinetic if they used their powers at the same time he'd mind control him for maybe a second before he was unconscious against the opposite wall. You can't mind control if you're unconscious and you can't mind control a telekentic to undo the force he just blasted you to the wall with.

Any power can be the ultimate power if you push it to the max limit, or as a category three as they call it in marvel. A telekenetic could disintregrate the planet or just manifest money for himself if he needed it if he could use his powers well enough. Even stupid powers, like I never thought control over paper would be a cool power until I watched Read or Die. My favorite power is the power to hypnotize from the show Betterman, especially since he was able to hypnotize himself to become perfect. Also, hypnotizm stays active even if you're unconscious, mind control takes an active thought to continue working.

You kind of have a villians point of view though, you remind me of the Cobra Commander. He wanted to basically just mind control everyone, but then he'd have noone to talk to.

The most common powers being discussed in this thread appear to be mind control (obviously), telekinesis, time manipulation and immortality (though I think that was only mentioned once).

People have already pointed out the errors of mind control such as being unable to stop mindless objects and diseases from killing you but one funny thing to note is that often when mind control is used on say, the hero, they overcome mind control through either simple will power or extreme emotion. This is plausible as to overcome mind control they could just focus all thoughts onto a single task (such as beat the tar out of you) and surges of emotion effect responses in the brain making it harder for the controller to keep up with all the changes.

Telekinesis is dependent on how strong and in what form you have it. There are three types of telekinesis; the ability to influence a stationary object, the ability to influence an object in motion, and the ability to influence living things (this is not mind control, this is more along the lines of curing a disease or making a body part move differently rather than making them make their body move differently). Simply having telekinesis does not give you telepathy or the power to see into the future or know what?s around you. Furthermore it would probably take a great deal of concentration to do more than one of these different variations at once.

Time manipulation is a weakness in its self, mostly because the possibilities in life are endless. Even if you've been to the future to know what?s happened there's a chance it won't happen like it did in the future and could be completely different. Time travelling into the future can't be done because the future is undetermined. As for travelling into the past, well if you're dying you'll have to be very quick about warning your past self, and also it would be harder to concentrate on which time period to warp to in both the heat of the moment and whilst you are in pain. Also changing the past is risky as even the smallest of things can change the greatest of events.

Finally immortality, defined simply as cannot die in any manner, is the worst super power to have, ever. If you live forever you have to see all your love ones die and when you have new friends you also have to watch them die and the process repeats till you're driven insane. Also immortality is not the same as regeneration so even if your body was dismembered you wouldn't be able to put it back together, you'll just live in eternal agony, incapable of doing anything.

The final thing that scuppers most of these powers is morals. Morals prevent any of these superpowers unless you were evil or have some really twisted morals. Anyway nothing else to comment on so here's my post.

I'd have to agree that mind control is one of the more powerful abilities.
And yes, I'd have to say that it is rape if you use your abilities to have someone sleep with you. Check out TVTrope's Mind Rape page: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MindRape

What about the ability to do magic?

You can do literally anything your mind thinks up.

Yeah it's all purpose gap filler, but isn't that the point? Doesn't that make it more powerful than anything, because it is everything?

No, i still think that Aizen Sosuke's (from Bleach) 'total hypnosis' is much more potent.

Even if you know about it, you can never be sure of whats happeneing around you, you could be fighting an ally who also thinks theyre fighting an enemy, he could seem to be a good distance away and really be right behind you.

You just do something? Or did I make you think you did it?

Did I write this sentence? Or did I make it seem like somethings written here?

The effect is also permanent until the you come into contact with the blade that causes it, by which time youre likely to be dead.

Also having a healing factor situation similar to Deadpool's. He is immune to mental influence because his brain is contantly getting fried by his super cancer/healing factor cycle. Sure you would be batshit crazy, but thats not a bad thing.

I don't know, I think the greatest superpower would still have to be mind reading. I meann, if you're a powerful mind reader you can tell whenever anything is ever going to happen.

So mind reader + gun > mind control

You would be invincible for all intensive purposes, because anyone who wanted to arrest or kill you could be mind-controlled to love you instead. And before you mention Magneto's helmet, who says we have to play by X-men rules? Actually "invisibility + non-detection" is far superior. Try to control the mind of an assassin you can not detect, see, feel or hear.

Why is your idea of immortality connected to "not feeling any pain"? Do you think that sun enveloping the whole planet earth, turning it into a ball of lava, is painless?

EDIT: Because I quoted the wrong guy.

I'm gonna add my vote to the time manipulation thing. Obviously that means when you freeze time or slow it or whatever you can prevent your body from aging... Somehow. I dunno, it's a superpower. Plus, it'd just be awesome.
