There is something going down in Korea........

No doubt everyone here has all heard about the conflict that is slowly re-igniting yet again over on the Korean peninsula. The media has portrayed the conflict as being initialized by North Korean's whilst the North Korean's insist that they were merely responding to shots fired dangerously into their waters by the south.

We all know that these sort of incidents have been happening on and off since the early 50's after the armistice of 53'. We also know that North Korea is a Nuclear Nation and have stated that they are not afraid to flex their nuclear muscle if provoked. What i want to know is the community's belief of whats going to happen next?

P.S I also choose no poll because i dont think it will be specific enough.

In all seriousness I'm thinking tensions will flare, most countries will back the South (The North ain't got the USSR to get supplies from now, do they), China probably won't want to get involved, the UN will berate North Krea and possibly their actions and desire for further actions will be sealed behind red tape and signed agreements.

They're like the fat kid who shows up at school with a pocket-knife because someone had the hide to hit them back after they beat up someone for lunch money.

nothings gonna happen until or unless the north korean people finally bite the bullet and take out the trash (leadership). China certainly doesn't want a conflict with the united nations fielding a force on its doorstep not to mention the damage to trade relations, but they also don't want to see North Korea slip out from under the yoke of their puppet regime and potentially reunite the entire peninsula creating yet another Asian power house economy on their door step not to mention a regional player to be contend with. Western financiers investors and large business interests aren't interested either for the potential impact on their various enterprises purchasing and trading goods and services with china and the entire region for that matter.
I unfortunately predict that for at least the next couple of decades if not half a century north korea will struggle on under the same old same old regime, making ludicrous gestures, and indoctrinating the people to prepare for the "final offensive", and continual cultivating of the sick cult of worshipping a line of military dictators and their cronies as a heaven sent diety.
Hell north Korean society is the only thing that scares me more than the relative expansion of scientology in western nations.

I don't see that happening. I also think that if/when the North DO attack we need to crush them hard and fast. Does that mean nuclear strikes? Potentially.

The key factor is China...the US will support its North South Korean allies and drag Europe into helping out. Will China offer the same support for the North?

The tuition fees have been raised even higher that they were, and they were bad enough before that you were practically forced to take out student loans and get in debt before you've even gotten anywhere. This means it's almost inadvertently bringing back the Class system - from a working class background? Better get an apprenticeship, because you won't be able to afford uni. and because of progressive society, no-one wants to slip back into Draconian values. That's my reading of events anyway.

I don't really think anything will become of it. North Korea will throw a tantrum and everyone will laugh and ruffle it's hair and say, "Oh Kim, When will you learn?"

Or they could just go balls in and decide to drop nukes for the lulz. Depends if they feel like they have absolutely nothing to lose on the world stage anymore. But i doubt anyone's really THAT irrational.

Of course, just because it's the last thing I ever want doesn't mean I don't want it. Maybe it's necessary.

dont reckon nukes are a worry cos NK havnt got any. china could be a problem and considering how self-destructive they are when it comes to economy and how they deal with tibet and other dissenters if they got involved it could escalate.

i have a sneaking suspicion that if the koreas did kick off and the UN got invovled then other less well informed countries such as Iran would start up and well yeah....

Naw China will suport South Korea. They have a far more similar business model so trade is far more likely to flourish between them than with the North. Although you're right about hitting fast and hard if the North decide to do anything. I feel like the only reason nuclear weapons havent been used since WWII was because of the natural deterent between the US and Russia, butKim Jong is crazy enough to just watch the world burn...
