IT gave an excellent new cover option, unlike GRAW where there were 3 different buttons to move on a wall!
I dont hate halo, its a good game, but it realy didn't do anything innovative.SargentToughie post=9.74625.840753 said:Halo...

Grenade button, melee button and regenerating shields. And it was one of the big games that put the Xbox on the map. While I'm aware that those ideas have probably been used before in some niche games, this was the first to bring these ideas to the masses.Richard Groovy Pants post=9.74625.840875 said:You still didn't explained how halo changed things.SargentToughie post=9.74625.840867 said:I'm really stunned that mentioning the word "Halo" Brought to me such a harsh lash back
I personally like halo, go ahead and burn me for my opinion differing from Yahtzee... I can feel your hatered from here
but you're right, the PC was'nt affected by halo nearly as much as the consoles were
Fixed it for you.SargentToughie post=9.74625.840753 said:Marathon

I was surprised nobody mentioned "The Prince" yet.Sennz0r post=9.74625.841273 said:Hell yeah, Mirror's Edge gives me the droolsflare09 post=9.74625.841253 said:I'd have to say that Prince of Persia started a new genre. Melee button was in Duke Nukem 3D, not exactly a niche game.Geo Da Sponge post=9.74625.841243 said:Grenade button, melee button and regenerating shields. I'd forgotten Duke's "kick" button wasn't just a weapon mapping in the original game.number2301 post=9.74625.841330 said:Melee button was in Duke Nukem 3D, not exactly a niche game.Geo Da Sponge post=9.74625.841243 said:Grenade button, melee button and regenerating shields. Oh, I wish... but alas I don't think Marathon influenced the industry at large, just with Bungie.Lukeje post=9.74625.841260 said:Fixed it for you.SargentToughie post=9.74625.840753 said:Marathon

Thank you! I was terrified that I'd get to the end of this thread and not see a single mention of the grand-daddy of stealth games. Thief showed us that you could make an interesting game without the ever-escalating armory of homing rocket grenade laser machine gun launchers. How many first-person games before Thief allowed you to win a level and proceed without laying a finger on a single enemy present?rail16 post=9.74625.841387 said:Thief was a very ground breaking game in terms of first person shooters
