This here comment as an example. Playing the game as it's "meant to be played" as you preach it does not make you better nor does it mean you are enjoying yourself more. For example I like playing COD 4 both modded and unmodded, so what am I? Some kind of crossover between completely horrible (which I'm not) and the set of "good players" who play it "like it's meant to be played?" Seriously, that's just offensive, and like I said before, this wanting to play the game differently results in new and fun things (TF2 like I mentioned above).
Just to be clear, I have no problem with modded games. I love modded games. I love games with special rules. But I'm playing for fun. If you're throwing the rules or mods in just for fun, that's awesome, you're improving the game. I just hate when people claim that just because they can play the game awesome with all these extra rules and conditions that they need to be good at the game.

I'm not saying that playing the game pure makes you good, I'm just saying that being good at the game with all the rules swapped out doesn't make you good either.
I agree with you there, it's not the same experience and thus saying that you're better for playing either one way or the other is nonsensical. And that's my point exactly, I think it's nonsensical to generalize about people who play the game differently just because they play the game differently.

Why does hockey have penalties or soccer/football have red cards then? Or are the players just not "pro" enough?
The players do not set the rules. For example, in the NFL, the players are just abiding by the way the game is set up, just like the way the developer would set a game up. The analogy does not work.

Sounds like you might as well just play Counterstrike.

It's weird that that is what "Pro's" do. It seems that if you remove content, you make the game simpler. It can still be deep in play, but are, "Pro's" really that unable to cope with a larger variety of circumstances? And really, kill streaks are such a major part of the game, there almost not playing Modern Warfare anymore. That's the point, MW2 TRYS to give a rather vicious positive feedback loop, that require a counter strategy to put a stop to the enemies momentum. This sounds to me like the video game equivalent of playing bowling with the bumpers.

This is like only playing on Final Destination with no items on SSBB...boring and only for the tourney tards.
And that's the reason why I stop going to Smash Bros Tourneys(only 2).
As for those rules, well...the post I quote sum up my feelings.

What ever happened to playing for fun?
yea, this rules sound un-fun. I don't see how this works since there "pros" then wouldn't they all have full killstreaks equiment and perks? Allowing it to be fair anyways? Mabey I just don't get it.

That makes alot of sence, taking out the killstreaks adds alot of ballance.

However taking out Riot Shields and C4 is a bit odd, because Riot Shields are a legitamite statagy to use, and so is C4 on the bomb in Search.

Oh well, not like im gunna be playing it anyway.

Here's an idea that I think is a far better test of someone's ability:

Give everybody access to absolutely everything the game has to offer. Have these people spend an hour tweaking and creating their own five classes for a tournament using all the content available. Afterwards, have them do fierce manly battle. This way, it tests not only your class creation but your skill as well. It also requires you to face up against enemy classes you may not have thought of and think on your feet.

I play in some CyberGamer.com.au leagues, and the rules go as followed.

Game play Options:
Head shots only: Disabled
Allow perks: Disabled
Allow air support: Disabled
3rd personl mode: Disabled
Hardcore mode: Enabled

Kit restrictions:
Primary
Assault Rifles: No Restrictions
Sub Machine Guns: P-90 & UMP-45 Banned
Light Machine Guns: All Banned
Sniper Rifles: Intervention only
Secondary: Handguns only
Equipment: C4 and Claymores Banned
Special Grenade: Stuns Banned
Attachments: Grenade Launcher, Shotgun, Akimbo, Thermal Scope and Heartbeat Sensor Banned.

Riot Shields are banned.

DeathStreaks:
Copycat only

Perks:
Disabled

Maps:
Afghan
Skidrow
Sub base
Quarry
Invasion
Karachi
Favela
Terminal

This, ofcourse, is the 5v5 SnD ruleset. The rules are fair, in my opinion, when playing proper clan matches. But in pub lobbies we can do what we like. Professionals play the game for fun, too.

A lot of people in this thread don't understand the definition of professional.
Still, wouldn't touch this tourney wise without a promod.

The goal is to remove randomness and promote balance and skill. It's not for everyone, but calling anyone a "tourney tard" because they enjoy the competitive scene is a bit retarded, to use a term you understand.
