Ah, Australia. I am ashamed at how our citizens act when they are overseas, whether on a holiday or as a resident. Believing that because you have an accent you can act however you like and people will fawn over you and fall at your feet with admiration... Pure idiocy. I could list all the governmental/economy/public service cockups, but really, the people living in it is what makes it a country. And we're mostly a big bag of dicks right now, even at home getting drunk and smashing each other for lack of a proper brain.
Oh, come on, that's not true. You can't generalize an entire country like that.

We were one of the first to give women the vote (after New Zealand and probably a few others), but it was the late sixties when the aboriginies were actually counted as people in our constitution.
I thought we were one of the last...
I think it was either 1904 or 5, compared to 1928 for britain.

I'm American, and I'd have to say I hang my head about the fact that citizens pay to finance sports stadiums that will create insane amounts of revenue for an already very rich owner of a team. Then, I have to pay again to get into the stadium. Even more money is taken in when naming rights are sold.

Personally, I'm Australian, so the obvious choice is this.

What are yours?

~EDIT~

You have to give your country as well :p
Dear god... It's like they've tried to ripoff Coheed and Cambria, while making the lyrics alot less intelligent and music much less progressive :S
For me, being in Australia, I have to say Michael Atkinson In South Australia. That fuck won't give us an R18+ rating. Douchebag.

I live in America. So our last election. That everyone voted for our president based on overblown promises, statements that were contradicted multiple times, and the simple fact that he's black. I mean, really, voting for someone just because of their color? The American people made a huge mistake, and I still don't understand why.

And yes, I know I'm going to get slammed for this. I still stand by it.

I sort of can, and I sort of do. I've lived here all of my life and I've experienced a lot of things. Generalisations about partying, drinking and violence are most often quite true, and I've been treated to a million and one stories about misadventures when overseas with police and brawling.

The stolen generation and East Timor.

The first is a policy the Australian government had about removing half breed and full breed Aboriginals from their native tribes to be 'raised right.' This upbringing was, as you can guess, mostly about how they should serve white people and be damn thankful for it. The most disgusting part about this policy was that it was enforced by the government until sometime in the mid 1970's!

East Timor is a little less obvious. Under the guise of 'helping a fledgling nation' we went in to this country and expelled the Indonesian. The whole reason we went in there was a sham though and what we really where after was the natural resources. This is evident by how Australia forced the new East Timor government to sign an agreement that they wouldn't dispute the boundaries for at least fifty years... more then enough time for the reserves to be depleted. Oh sure we 'threw them a bone' but stealing half the resources is still theft!

Both these acts are unforgeable and till they are corrected I can't feel pride in my nation. The first is starting at least, while Howard never would admit Australia did anything wrong by kidnapping children at least Rudd has said sorry for it. The second...

Those aren't country specific, that's just humanity for you. But then, I did make this thread for people to give their opinions, so, do whatever, go right ahead.

Ok seriously, just some of the ignorance, the scary statistics about illiteracy in the south etc etc.
I'm fairly certain illiteracy is actually worse in DC than in the South.

Also: Patriotism, overabundance of religion, stupid lawsuits, stupid people.
I am not a big fan of my country.
It is America.
Well, you can find the same attributes in any other country - Senegal, Japan, Moldavia, you name it...

Im from the U.S.A, and I hang my head in shame at the fact that our government is trying to socialize our healthcare while countires With socialized healthcare are desperately trying to make theirs like ours (capitalist "choose-and-pay-for-your-own" style).

Also that half of the people in this country are lazy fat idiots that are oblivious to anything more complicated than last nights (american) football game, but that doesn't mean people should stereotype us to all be that way like most people do.
And what are the other half?

I think you both dislike the common man, not the country.

As for me. I'm German. Now think...what could it be?

Err....some things about Germany

1) Lots of stupid people (like...any other country, i guess)

2) If you are a able worker, you get fired at 42 due to budget cuts and never find a job again... BUT when you are a 20-something loser with no education, criminal background and only able to live due to social services, you get your own reality show.

3) Inability to get over the Nazi past, resulting in a somewhat creepy hate-obsession of the whole thing. I really can't stand seeing "Downfall" or Documentaries about Hitler's allys anymore.

4) Inability to make good Television or Movies (although they really try at the moment and deliver slightly better quality). Or to make anything original (although our version of "The Office" is the best of all)

5) The whole censorship thing with gaming...i don't even want to talk about it anymore

6) The most annoying thing currently is politics. Although it could be worse, it's grating that despite the fact that a new government will be elected this month, there is no real hope that anything will really change.
Wich is of course to blame on the political parties, but even if that wasn't the case, our whole political system does not allow radical reformation, even on a small scale. So any changes for the better come slow, if they come at all. And that is incredibly annoying in the current world situation.

Iraq. While that should be "'nuff said", I actually want to point out the worst of it that's unknown.

When the war "ended", just about every lower-class iraqi started looting whatever they can get their hands on & burning other things. Though there's a chance that conspiracy is involved, I dont give a damn. They burned down the iraqi equivalent of the library of congress! They burned down my school! I'm beyond pissed, & therefore I'm interested in the "Ground Zero Ocean" concept.

I'm from Northern Ireland... I'm ashamed of almost everything in my country...

Although being from America would be worse!
