We have proved ourselves militarily time and time again in major conflicts while still being the beacon of peace in the world. We have a strong economy, we gave the world me. We have a rich music scene. We have a rich history of art. Unfortunately we are a youngling so we don't have the experience of the ancient ones. But we make do.

That we have people fighting for equal rights for EVERYONE. That we are not one ethnicity and hating us really is hating the whole world. The Constitution. That it is impossible to say "All Americans..." and be accurate unless its followed by "...are human"
That I can say bad of our leader and not get executed for it. (though I dont need that so much currently with Obama)
We dont think we are superior for removing 'u's from some of our words in a language shared by so many.

Canada burned down the White House TWICE. One time was only a counterattack after the US tried to invade it. If that doesnt make me proud, store me in a cupboard and call me John Doe.

Also, poutine.

I'm in the USA here.

Um... um... wow, this is hard.

Well, being the Heavy Metal enthusiast I am... we're the birthplace of some of my favorite bands including Manowar, Savatage and W.A.S.P.

That's about it really. I mean, I do like my country, I just don't like the government. Sometimes I wish I was Canadian.

we invented almost everything, including something that the president of the usa himself said was a bigger acheivment than putting a man on the moon, also our native tongue is the most widespread.

Lot of stuff was invented by hungarians. Like the concept of the way a computer works. Or the hydrogen bomb... wait I'm not proud of that.
Also I'd like to add our national heroes. Some of them are so astonishingly badass, they make Batman look like a pussy.

Thank you a thousand times for this post! It's like when people say that they are proud of vikings as a part of Danish history. BS. Denmark didn't exist. Fuck off with the vikings.
Weren't the vikings from Sweeden and Norway?

They were from Scandinavia in general, though the Norway do seem to get most of the attention. My point was just that whatever the vikings may have done, it had nothing at all to do with the Denmark that exist these days. Or Norway or Sweden for that matter. Just as ancient Rome has nothing to do with modern Italy. Or Iran with the Persian Empire. Or Israel with the Jewish Kingdoms of old. And so forth. Keep going yourself. And apologies to anyone who comes from any of these places and feel insulted but that's just the way it is.

We gave birth to the greatest philosophers of all times,
Germany? Are you shitting me?

Marx, Hegel, Nietszche, a bunch of fascists, Kant...

NO.

And Wittgenstein was an Austrian.

I'm actually somewhat proud of American philosophy, because it pays proper respect to our British philosophical overlords.
How can someone not love Kant!? Have you even read them!? I dont insist to read them in original German, but still - those man had a greater impact on modern society then any philosophers before. I might dislike Nietzche and Marx, but you cannot deny their impact. Also, you didn't say who you would prefer.
The greatest thing Kant ever did was take Hume seriously. It went downhill from there.

And none of them were fascist.
Yes, that's a whole different set. Germany did have a bunch of fascist philosophers, as did France, Britain, and the United States.

In conjunction with the shame thread, I thought I'd make a thread that highlights the more positive aspects of your country. What makes you proud of your country? Don't forget to mention the name of your country as well (mine is Belgium).

Well, we did invent the chips (or also called French fries) and we have the best frigging chocolate in the world.

Oh, and we're also proud of Kim Clijsters. At least some Belgian pride that puts our tiny country on the map.

The United States Freaking Marine Corps, baby. Oorah.

EDIT: inb4 people go off with comebacks like 'YOU LIEK TEH RAPISTS? EWWWW U IDIOTTARD LUL'

And who the fuck are you to judge them or analyse their work? You still didn't reply who you think is greater then them, or had a larger impact on society and history in general. Also, your opinion about Kant is very subjective and you didn't make any argument to reinforce it. All western countries had fascist philosopher, or socialist. But those weren't them. Even Nietzche. And if you want to continue this conversation, please write me and stop clogging this thread, or at least say something to support your statement.
