We've all got something that completly pushes us over the edge, something that when we see we start foaming at the mouth. Sometimes they're common gripes, other times this is unique to you. Me personally, this is what I despise.

Flying Cars: I hate these things with a passion, not only do they make no sense, you would have to be a trained pilot to operate one, and it would be every suicide bomber's wet dream.

When a couple gets together at the end of a show/game/movie: Despite being a 18 year old male, I actually enjoy a bit of romance in a story(so long if it's well written) but I hate it when they hint at two people getting together for the ENITRE game...and then they share one kiss at the end and then it's over...if you're going to have a couple in a game or movie, EXPLORE THEIR RELATIONSHIP! IT IS INTERESTING!

Double Standards: A woman does something and it is acceptable, but a man does it and it is not...gonna have to stop here before I descend into homicidal rage. Also applies to other dividing factors of man, such as skin color.

So what about you? What drives you up the wall?

- Bosses that can take 1000% of damage of their henchmen, for no other reason but being a boss. Boss or not, if he doesnt use cover or wearing some sort of UBERbodyarmor there's no excuse why he shouldnt drop to the ground after 2 headshots.

- Game archievement messages flashing all across the screen in big white letters, telling you about your mad skills, blocking whatever is behind them onscreen. (NFS i esp talk about you)

- usable buttons or collectible weapons which either blink like mad or have big red markers all around them. There were times when ppl actually had to pay attention to their virtual surroundings (NOLF2), nowadays you just look for markers flashing in your face (BF3, GTA, COD)

'Gritty reboots' and general brown, drab and depressing games, movies, etc. I don't understand why people like to imagine they are in that type of a setting.

No, Minecraft isn't a game, it's a creativity tool. So let's drop that example. A game that doesn't provide a good story just feels, well, uninspired and lazy. Like they thought up the gameplay and then came up with a half-arsed story later on.
Yes, damn that Mario, Zelda, tetris, megaman and every other piece we call classic!
You can't possibly have a game without a good story.

Monopoly proved that!

OT:
Restricted save options or the inability to pause whenever needed.
Online games not included, for obvious reasons.

I like to game.
I like watching the cutscnes of games.
But it's not the centre of my world, other stuff happens too.
So, I liked to be able to pause, or quit when I want to and be able to continue where I left off.

Not putting a pause feature and then give us a 20 minute cutscene is NOT COOL Konami!

Excuse me? I thought we were talking about present day and not 25 years ago.
Besides Mario Galaxy 2 and the latest Zelda game.
The rise of mobile games like angry birds still proves that there are games who can say that "The story is not the point of these games" with a straight face and still be really entertaining.

I guess you don't like dark souls or skyrim.

It's not thr destination it's the journey .

Sure there are stories in those game , but they aren't the main focus .

OT: unskipable cut-scenes and games that focus on graphics and voice-acting over gameplay and story . I usually ignore anything that uses graphics as a main selling point.

Open world "Do what you want" games. They're fun at first but get horrible boring. Like Minecraft. It's fun at first but it gets boring with no real goal in sight. Terraria's funner for me for that reason.

Games that lock you in a set path and use some BS invisible walls to keep you there. I can deal with using debris to block you off, so long as it could feasibly block you off. A wait high wall that's stopping you from going that way right after you hopped over a car is rather annoying.

Also, pretty much everything modern aged shooters are pushing. What's wrong with hanging back and sniping bad guys? Why cant I open the god damned door myself? I can fire a bazooka but the workings of a door knob is beyond me.

So you don't actually want any discussion? Which is, you know, literally the whole point of threads? You just want this to be a thread where everyone makes a list and then leaves, and nobody interacts with anybody else?

Fun fact: my 2 little brothers are weird like that. They'll play a game together where they imitate a video game they like to play, in great detail - including things like limited model animations, weird noises made by the character when they're hurt, and most oddly, invisible walls. "Sorry I can't go that way, the game's not letting me!"

The out of bound zones in one particular shooter. You jump out of a helicopter thinking you are in the game zone, only to find out you are out of bounds and have ten seconds to land safely and make a mad dash to the playable zone.

...YES, that is EXACTLY what I want people to do! I said "what really gets you worked up over video games" not "compare and contrast opinions." What did you think I wanted? Debating over the internet is a sticky business because it practically always descends into flamewars and it usually gets off topic, and the point of threads is to STAY ON TOPIC!

As it happens, googling the definition of "forum" gets this as its first result: A meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.

It's the reason threads with "no discussion value" usually get locked or organically disappear pretty quickly. The point of this forum, and all forums (on the internet or real life) is ostensibly to get people having conversations and interacting with each other. And conversations, by their very nature, always meander through multiple topics - I think you're being a bit overzealous when you say they're "derailing the thread"; it would be a derail if the conversation evolved into a conversation about, say, the merits of the stories of certain books. As it is, they're discussing an issue one person "really just HATES", which is adhering to the topic.

And anyway, as much as I like to slag off this place, it generally is at least civil when it comes to discussion. It's shown no signs of devolving into a flamewar yet, give it a chance. Stopping all discussion, period, because you're afraid a flamewar might happen is like restricting the entire internet because you're afraid somebody might pirate somethi... never mind, better analogy: it's like banning all cars because you're afraid somebody might run somebody else over with one.

EDIT: Also, this post right here? Yeah, this is a derail. Oops. I think it would be a good idea to continue this convo via PM from now on.

"The award for RPG of the year goes to Zelda!"
As a massive RPG fan, this one just really annoys me.

Boss attacks that drain your health and restore theirs.

Ugh. I wasn't even gonna post in this topic, but this right here drives me fucking bonkers.

There's one TV show in particular (I won't name it because doing so would basically be a spoiler) where there's two characters who have great chemistry, and are both single, and it's made abundantly clear fairly early in the series that there's at least some mutual interest, but there's NO romance for almost the entire seven seasons of the show, until they finally get together in damn near the last episode of the show.

And I haven't even gotten that far. I'm on season five, and my enthusiasm for the show went right down the toilet when I found out they don't get together until the very end. It's just stupid.

I just don't like that dynamic of deliberately keeping people apart when you know you're ultimately going to pair them up in the end.
