It's trendy to hate on the muslims and Arabs.
It's not just trendy.

Google "Reel Bad Arabs".
Yeah, that's pretty sad.
Arabs in Hollywood are the new Jews, if they're not crazed terrorist religious fanatics then they're corrupt hook nosed money loving white woman raping sheiks.

Needless to say the whole thing took a turn for the worse after 9/11.
Yeah, if you're really interested, you can "preview" the entire documentary at their website here.

When the hero wins movies are a lot better when you can't know who will win
I want to see the villian win for once
Go watch The Usual Suspects.
Hey, spoiler that.
I did. But believe me, even saying that much can't possibly spoil the ending. Watch the movie and I guarantee it.

Actually demonizing Arabs is frowned upon as not being PC. It doesn't surprise me that some people are trying to make it look like it's common, but overall there seems to be a consistant effort to prevent Muslims from becoming villains the same way Nazis are or Russians were during 1980s action movies.

Other than that, the perfect "can beat anyone, can do anything" hero doesn't seem to be around much anymore. That kind of thing died out during the 80s as well for the most part, and it's kind of sad because I miss the stereotype. It seems nearly everyone in movies nowadays is painfully human and flawed.

As far as the bad guys winning, I confess to being a romantic and wanting to see the good guys win. It's all about the journey there. This goes for Horror movies too, and honestly in Horror movies the bad guy wins as often as the good guys.

Anime is also infamous for having enemies win just like that, and honestly you'd be surprised at how badly the heroes get pwned in the last couple of episodes in some series.

I dislike it when the good guys (the AMERICANS) are standing there at the end of the movie, all emotionally saluting the U.S flag while some cheesy orchestra plays some kind of "heroic" music in the background. It's so extremely common and cheesy, but I guess it's quite appealing to the american watchers, being all patriotic and all. But I don't like it.
IDK, I think it depend on the film. Of course, I get choked up when I hear Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA.

Can you give me an example that you didn't like?

I meant put it in a spoiler box, like I did in the quotation.

I have seen it, it was awesome. Singer and Spacey are fantastic.

well, I hate it that in some movies they have to shove the U.S flag in front of the camera for about 5 minutes so we understand how cool it is (I mean, OK, it is a movie from the U.S, but do you really need to remind everyone else that!?!?)

also, I hate how in some action movies they seem to run in nitroglycerine cars, a slightly hard bump and it blows in to pieces!!

EDIT: oh!!! also the bad timed BOMB that makes stuff blow up... I just looks weird that the car crashes head first and the explosion comes from the rear bumper!!

Blatant disregard for realism irritates me. I don't mind a little artistic or dramatic license, I really don't. But when we have the dreaded 'Computer = MAGIC BOX' thing or things like a normal guy (well, the hero) being kicked through a (brick!) wall and get up to continue the fight, or just stuff that basically shouldn't work.

Also, asinine twist endings.
Yes, Mr. Shamalanalanlanlan (or however you spell that) it WAS good ONCE. Try something else now.

God awful narrative!
Fine movies like Blade Runner have suffered this dreadful infliction and survived, but Kristen Stewarts incessant blithering during Twilight was enough to give me a headache!

If you're not a talented enough director to convey a characters inner thoughts and feelings without resorting to them actually saying it then you should get another frigging job!

Not really, I'd go as far as to say that Arabs are one of the last ethnic groups of which it's okay to show offensive and stereotyped characters.
And it's not just now, with the terrorists and all of that, Hollywood has been doing this for pretty much all of the 20th century.

Okay, well I don't really know why they did it in Armageddon, but Independence Day makes perfect sense. And it's not about "This was made in America!", the American flag stands for things. Freedom, Liberty, Justice, Equality, etc. So, we defeated the aliens and won back our freedom by the blood of our sweat (or whatever they say). It fits.
