God awful narrative!
Fine movies like Blade Runner have suffered this dreadful infliction and survived, but Kristen Stewarts incessant blithering during Twilight was enough to give me a headache!

If you're not a talented enough director to convey a characters inner thoughts and feelings without resorting to them actually saying it then you should get another frigging job!
I absolutely agree with you.

In the case of Blade Runner, it survived, because it had nothing to do with the story, that film was all about the art direction. That's why it was a big deal; it wasn't the plot, it has almost no plot.

What's with the completely over-the-top stunts that have no way of being physically possible in real life, usually involving a helicopter? Good stunts are fine. Badass stunts are cool. But some stunts in movies just take away from my willing suspension of disbelief. And they seem to involve helicopters lately. Like the one in Live Free or Die Hard--already the weakest movie in the series--where McClane smashes a car into a helicopter to blow it up. Or the most recent one in the Wolverine movie, where Wolverine smashes HIMSELF into a helicopter. Slightly justified by his regeneration, but still more than a little far fetched.
dude, its called fiction for a reason, you may not like it but a lot of people watch movies to see stuff that really couldn't be seen anywhere else.
I understand that. I like stunts when they're done well, too. It's physics-breaking stunts in movies that up to that point have at least been realistically feasible that bother me. It breaks the 4th wall for me, and I know I'm not alone in that.

Okay, well I don't really know why they did it in Armageddon, but Independence Day makes perfect sense. And it's not about "This was made in America!", the American flag stands for things. Freedom, Liberty, Justice, Equality, etc. So, we defeated the aliens and won back our freedom by the blood of our sweat (or whatever they say). It fits.
But it's all so overly American. If the movie was more about the worlds victory against the aliens, than the american's victory over.. well.. everything, I think the movie would be much less cheesy. Because it just gets cheesier the closer to the end it gets.

you gotta lighten up man

*mental note, never let him watch science fiction.
lol.

I'm fine with SF, actually. See, a ridiculous helicopter stunt worked in The Matrix because it was justified by being a computer simulation.

But alright. I'll repeat the MST3K mantra: It's just a movie. I should really just relax.

:)

EDIT: just fixing a typo.

That people are alwayes trying to make the movies that will appeal to the largest number of audiences as possible instead of concentrating on actually making good movies.
Most of todays movies are dumb, cliche, anvillicious in their themes, "kid friendly", "adult friendly", "white friendly", "black friendly", funny, sexy, action-y and generally plainly suck.
That's awful. I like movies.

Horror films in general are just terrible. It seems like every single one requires all of the main characters to be complete morons. They always end up either splitting up or not running away when the man with the chainsaw is around. Terrible.

The stereotype hero that can't be beaten, always gets the girl(s), has no obvious weaknesses and can take on a whole army really makes a movie boring as hell.

I am surprised I haven't seen this one listed... I hate how it seems like every movie needs to have a mandatory sex scene.
and this
why do they think that men only watch movies with naked women in? it also means that you cant get friends/family to watch a great movie that is ruined by a sex scene
see - enemy at the gates
great movie, but why?

also the americans always being great
i like any movie with an english voice somewhere!

Not really, I'd go as far as to say that Arabs are one of the last ethnic groups of which it's okay to show offensive and stereotyped characters.
And it's not just now, with the terrorists and all of that, Hollywood has been doing this for pretty much all of the 20th century.
Did you ever see 'The Kingdom'?
I really thought that was a pretty fair portrayal of Arabs.
Well, at least Saudi people.

Plus I really enjoyed the movie, despite Jennifer Garner being in it.
She's not that great.

Plus 'Traitor' with Don Cheadle was a great film about terrorism and the moral dillema's faced by those pressured into such positions.

I think the real argument is in the 'mainstream' movies which go for the gung-ho approach over the subtlety. You can't really blame the producers for chasing the cash - blame the idiots who pay them millions for it!

Where they take a character and remove all that made the character the way he/she was and ended up adding stuff that just seem more like a freak of nature.

I'm not saying there aren't films that subvert this trope, just that they are a minority.

Well, fair enough.
