And the reason I know it, is because I'm a WoD fan - Caine, as in the biblical one, was cursed by God for the murder of his brother and became the first vampire. He was also banished to Nod and later came back, there is even a fairly influential book in canon called "The book of Nod" which is a vampiric Bible of sorts.
Needless to say, it's based on the Bible but WoD doesn't really follow it that closely, so I don't take it as a infallible source on the thing.
And interesting bit of trivia for CnC there, I honestly never noticed the connection. Then again, I haven't actually played it as much (just a bit of Tiberian Sun and a tinier bit of Renegade), and certainly none of the campaign, but I did know enough about it to be able to spot the reference.
Man I love WoD.

My group is currently doing Werewolf and I love it.
We're doing Hunter soon aswell.
I'm actually about to start a game of Vampire: The Masquerade with some friends (our first RP) soon so this is a happy little coincidence to see this here. We're in the character creation stage at the moment so it's a little daunting trying to make really fleshed out characters like it encourages. It's a fun experience though that might last years so it's definitely worth it.
OT: I think creepy for me had to go when I found out about in the Japanese Super Mario Bros. instruction manual, it says that residents of the mushroom kingdom were turned into blocks

So... are you killing Toads when you smash the blocks?
I love Masquerade! Have been going to a LARP for it for over two and a half years now. Played as a Ventrue for over two years, moving about almost every position in the city. Started as a Whip, then became Primo, then became a Deputy, then a Harpy. Wound up back in Primo by the end, but pretty much everytime I shifted positions, I was always bumped back as either the Primo or the Whip for a while. Eventually wound up as one of the highest standing Kindred in the game (6 status total I believe, and fourth in terms of standing city wide in a game of ~50), and was pretty much serving as the Prince's right hand man thanks to our Ventrue buddy system.
That LARP ended though about half a year ago, and so a new group of people took over as ST's. Came back in as a Lasombra, and have been the Prince of the city since the end of the first game (Praxis is awesome). While my Ventrue was a lot more of a straightforward character (the initial concept being one of few honest business people you would come across), I've had a lot more experience since my start, and created a much more fleshed out character. Italian by birth around the 1850's, fled to London after being framed for murder, fled to New York after being brought in as a suspect in the Jack the Ripper slayings, and finally creating his own gambling operation to make ends meet when he wound up in NYC. Embraced a bit before the turn of the century, he stayed with his Sire for a decade before making his own way, and become a major player in organized crime. Embraced his first Childe in the mid 1920's, who stayed with him until around the 50's, when the two split up to manage different operations. He went off to Chicago to deal with things there, popping back from time to time to visit his Childe in NYC and make sure everything was running smoothly. What he didn't know was that his Childe was thinking of creating a Childe of his own, a flight attendant for Pan Am at the time. He got her fired, and started to test her to see how strong her will and fortitude were before it was found out, and he was dragged back to Chicago after being ordered to deal with the girl. The Childe didn't though, instead giving her a few things to make it on her own, before explaining he had to go. She was destroyed by this, after having developed an obsession for the Childe, when a Malk came around, saw the shattered individual she was, and decided to have her crazy embraced. Her Sire even masked as the Childe of mine as he embraced her, just to fuck her head up even more.
That's the most juicy part of the backstory, highlighting the dynamic between Salvatore (myself), Eric (my Childe), and Quinn (the Malk), but it goes on from there. Sorry, I just kinda got into a grove while writing there and kinda splurged about my character since you brought up character creation. There are few that I don't know who I get to explain it all to without either a chance for Meta-Gaming, or a total lack of understanding, so I kinda just went straight off there!
Though, on a final note, some people in my city think I'm insane. They hear the Prince speak in a deep, clear tone when anything important is done up. Get him in private though, or trigger an emotional state, and he slips back into his natural accent, which is a thick Brooklyn one since he learned English in NYC. Has made quite a few heads spin when suddenly the Prince goes from talking very formal to making a couple cracks in this whiney Brooklyn tone. Even got the vote for most enjoyable player last game because people apparently loved it. My Seneschal stared at me for at least half a minute when he heard it for the first time.
