I was really enjoying Heroes before it began to drown in mediocrity with seasons 3 and 4.

Oh and let's not forget the Star Wars prequels...

That logic is horribly flawed. See, this is why I originally thought you were a Poe (essentially, someone who is so good at pretending to pretending to be a religious fundamentalist/conspiracy theorist/general whacko that they become indistinguishable from the real thing), because that kind of insane troll logic is typical of the type.

Criminals do not pay attention to the law. However, if the law is such that, say, firearms are very strictly controlled and unavailable to the general populace then criminals will find it much harder to get hold of firearms to use in their crimes. Similarly, using a firearm during a crime will likely make the criminal easier to track on the basis that far fewer people have guns which eliminates a great many potential suspects.

Gun control is common sense, it is not some kind of "de gubmint wants mah guns!" conspiracy to prevent revolution. Even if it were, it'd be a waste of time - unless said revolution is as numerous, well armed, well trained and well organized as the military they will be put down in short order.

Point is, unless necessary to advance the plotline or a movie, book, or game, politics should be left out of things. Musicians do it too...every time I hear one of them enter into some political rant at a concert I think "you're pissing off at least 20% of your audience, you idiot."
So people who create things are not allowed to have opinions of their own? They can't use their art to convey a message? Politics is integral to daily life, and core to many people's personalities, and they have the right to express that through what they create. If a show or musician is expressing political views that you dislike, then don't watch/listen.

It's almost sounds like if you weren't touched by the gods themselves you might as well had been a mosquito or something.
When you put it like that, it does kinda support that new-age theory that the Jedi are a selfish master race protecting their own interests, rather than a group of enlightened people who have unlocked the mysteries of the universe and genuinely know what's best for everyone.

See, this is what I hate about the Star Wars revisions. In that series of films, these little, seemingly inconsequential things usually have a massive ripple effect that completely ruins the themes and characterisations of later films. Someone already mentioned how Han shooting second ruined his character arc (going from a selfish rogue to a selfless hero), but what's even worse is the old version of Anakin being replaced by Hayden Christensen at the end of the last film. Earlier in the trilogy, they mentioned that Jedi pass into the Force when they die. Vader's story is that he was evil, but at the end of the film he redeemed himself and fought for good. Ergo, he died a Jedi and passed into the Force in his old age. That old guy that appears at the end of the film is what Anakin would have looked like without the hideous scarring. Replacing it with what Anakin looked like before he became Darth Vader makes no sense. Are they saying that the last time Anakin was not evil was in Episode 3? If so, how did he pass into the Force if he died a Sith lord? One little cosmetic change completely ruined the themes and character arcs of the films. It's like Lucas does not understand the most basic elements of storytelling.

A few other series that come to mind:

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Trilogy- The first was one of my fave games ever, but the second one was garbage. I didn't even mind the cosmetic changes, but the fighting engine was so buggy, the level design so boring, and the rest of the gameplay so bad, that playing it was a chore. I hated it so much that I couldn't bring myself to play The Two Thrones, even though it sounds like a brilliant game. An example of one entry legitimately ruining the rest of a franchise for me.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine- Truth be told, I loved this series. But when they got to the final battle and it was stitched together from stock CGI, it kinda ruined the whole thing for me. I could actually spot which scenes came from which episodes, and some of the scenes weren't even that good to begin with. It really broke the suspension of disbelief, and I often wonder how much better those last few seasons would have been with Enterprise's effects and budget.

I was quite enjoying "Lost", until I realized that the writers had no idea what they were doing.
I'm curious, which season did you begin realizing that? For me it was right at the end of season two when Michael shot the two girls.

=P
First couple of episodes of Season 2.

Actually, come to think of it, the Dune series was somewhat ruined for me, just because it became a series... The original book was an awesome work of sci-fi genius, but beyond that it went downhill :/

Then followed by the animated movie, and the games, and the tv series, and the collectible limited edition lunchbox set, and the jar-jar dinner-suit

you name it, star wars has put it's mushroom stamp on it and given it a dirty sanchez

The AVP movies ruined both the Predator and Alien franchise in just two movies.(Technically one since the 1st one was already an abomination and the second one was even worse)
Strange thing though, the Alien vs Predator games didn't ruin any of the franchises at all, but just added to them (AvP 2 is one of my favourite games for PC mostly due to sheer atmosphere).

How come the video game industry is so good at improving a franchise in many ways, but Hollywood seem to destroy everthing it comes into contact with?

Anyhow, back on topic:

The emergence of The Ori in Stargate SG-1 always makes me get bored with the series for some reason.

I loved the Goa'uld as well as the replicators, and these antagonists always served to make for exciting episodes, but once The Ori starts to pop up, the quality of the show somehow drastically sinks for some reason.

i kinda agree on the stargate thing i mean i loved the new characters i thought they were great additions to the show seeing as Anderson left and Tapping was going to be doing another show.(later they figgured out how to keep her doing both shows:) Sorry got off topic:( Ok heres the but, the story just kinda made me go to sleep when it came to something about the ori. IDK why maybe it was cause they were just too powerfull idk.

Murderers by definition don't pay attention to the laws against murder, therefore we should conclude that it's impossible for laws against murder to have an impact on them.

Horrid logic is indeed madness.
You're confusing an act with a tool. You might as well outlaw cars because sometimes people get killed by them.

I don't know about them being too powerful. Well they might have been but to me I actually think that the replicators seemed WAY MORE intimidating than the ori ever did.

Then again it might be because im not too fond of pseudo-religious and magical explanations about "ascended beings" and similar bullshit. I am however familiar with fields like nanotechnology, and since the replicators are basically one of the prophesized "gray goo" doomsday scenarios, they seemed infinitely more threatening than a bunch of possessed monks with a fascination with magical fire.

I'd also like to say that it must be the storyline with the Ori's fault that I started to dislike SG-1. Because the spin-off "Stargate Atlantis" was a success if you ask me, and I particularly liked the Wratih as well.

There's just something boring about the Ori, as well as most of the new cast of SG-1.
