Not what I said, read it again.
Lord of the Rings is still good. Not just because of what it's about or the unbelieveble detail, but also for the way it is written. Tolkien was a beast when it came to describing mood and atmosphere. Especialy with the Paths of the Dead, the fear and anguish just dripped of the page.

OT: The Jak & Daxter series. Still one of my favourite games. But when I tried to replay Jak 3 a while ago, even with cheats on, I just couldn't get pased how bad the controles really are. This generation controles have become as smooth as silk and replaying certain older games feels like you're rolling a brick around.

It may have been incredibly well written, but it was also incredibly boring. It's probably because I've been brought up on action packed fast paced fantasy, or maybe it's because I was Peter Jacksons master pieces first, but I was extremely disappointed by the Lord of the Rings.

I preferred the Hobbit. A talking Dragon or army of wolves may have caused Frodo to be a little less moody and poetic.

I can't believe it has not been said yet, HALO. It was super amazing when it first came out but now it is at the top of everyone's never again list(excluding the screaming ten year olds).

I've read it three times in ten years and it's been awesome every time.

Reading other fantasy novels simply makes you appreciate how good LoTR is when you get back to it. Very, very few have worlds and charatcers as well constructed.

Anyway, BETAMAX, Minidisk and HDDVD all got pretty awful grades on the time test. Even though functionally they are all fine, they just didn't hold up.

In games I find the opposite, I find older game better than new ones. For a lot of genres the only advancement has come in graphics, so I find myself playing old games and questioning why developers think they deserve my money. All they are doing is repainting an old product without offering practical improvements, Zelda and Mario come to mind but it applies to games in general really.

I also saw the movie first and then I read the books. The book is a little more confuzing when comes to explaing things and the characters are lot more staight forward. Gollem is evil from the getgo and Aragorn isn't as doubtfull about himself as he is in the movie. I loved the movie and watching the characters was a lot more enjoyable then it was in the books. But I did miss the passage of time from the books and I was really disappionted with the Paths of the Dead scene in the Special Edition.
Kinda the same as how I experienced Watchmen. Saw the movie first then read the 'comic'. I loved the movie but I missed the looming theat of nuclear war that was conveyed so well in the 'comic'.

If I really love something I tend to nitpick at it.

Pokemon cards. All the rage then, means of becoming a social pariah now.

...Did anyone actually ever play a game with them? Or were you like me and just collected them to resell?

IM going to go out on a limb and say the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon. As I was growing up that was the coolest, most bad ass thing on television, now when I watch some of the old episodes, its just plain cheesy.

Curses! you got there before me.

I can't think of anymore....Dial up internet?

EDIT: Power Rangers, that might have something to do with the fact that I grew up though.

Elaborate courting procedures to get married.

Somewhere between arranged marriages and getting married because of a baby, or getting married 5 times in your lifetime, they tried that and it looks just painful.

I could be grossly inappropriate and say breasts...

Instead i'll say classic metal bands. Exhibit A: Metallica.

The Grand theft auto series, i used to LOVE San Andreas, but then when I got IV and looked back on SA, it was terrrible, bad graphics, AI, and all the characters are not very well developed.

Edit: Now that I look back on this post, 2 years later, I see that my views have changed quite a bit. Please ignore this post, to anyone who is looking through this thread.

second! i actually already wear a pocketwatch daily but only because i'm a fullmetal alchemist fanboy. yeah, i'll admit it. but...the man has the right idea about them. pocketwatches rule. i'll probably use it daily even though i have one on my wrist.

ot: mortal kombat. i can't believe that this is the most creative thing i'm coming up with, but seriously. the first two were awesome.

I still have hundreds of them because my friends didn't want them, plus I had afew of my own.

Pretty much if I sold them for 0.25 I would make around $150, good deal if you ask me.

I never really liked the game, everyone just gave me their cards
