Up until I played Deus Ex, if I saw the publisher was Squeenix - I'd give that game a very wide berth. I still feel the same way about anything by Capcom, too. I guess I'm just not fond of Japanese games. They're a little too strange for my tastes.

But gameplay wise - the escort mission. The minute I hear "please escort..." I roll my eyes.
Square Enix owns all of Eidos now, and has shown very little influence in their development. So, don't be turned off by their name on the box of an Western developed game.
I have learned my lesson with Deus Ex. Though it's reassuring to know that Squeenix takes a hands off approach to the artistic process. Now that I played the near Godliness that is Deus Ex, I can't wait to see what other little gems Squeenix will help create.
Did you perhaps miss out on "Just Cause 2" from last year?

Several things.

For one, whenever they say move or kinect support. I don't care if I'm considered lazy by the bulk of society, I'm not getting off my rump to wave my arms around the room like a freakin psycho.

Second, when a game series I love starts messing shit up in an obvious attempt to grab money. Bioshock Infinite is the main one that comes to mind. You want to make a story about a city in the sky? Fine Levine, copy and paste the story for a third time. But Don't copy and paste the name to. Try and be creative with the title, don't just slap BIOSHOCK on there so that instantly casual bioshock fans happen to be in Gamestop one day and see BIOSHOCK Infinite and think, "Oh awesome I loved the other Bioshock's!" and then they buy it having no idea that this ISN'T Bioshock.

And that's about it.

When the primary selling point is the game's multiplayer.

I don't mind this in games like Brink or Quake, obviously, those are purely MP games, so they get a pass. I'm looking at you CoD, BF, Killzone, et al. Sell me on the single player, not the MP that I don't play.

I recently got into the Deus Ex series starting with the first, and what I didn't like (as puerile as it sounds) limited upgrades.

I usually look out for buzz words like "Innovative" or "Streamlined". They are never a good thing considering what we think is innovative is either 3D or waggle, streamlined speaks for itself.

While it doesn't instantly kill my interest in a game, when enemies have superhuman/supernatural aiming abilities can turn me off from a game pretty quick. For example, Sniper: Ghost Warrior occasionally has this problem. I can be lying prone on a cliff/ledge, aiming down and guards that are over a hundred meters away can spot me and accurately shoot me even though they don't have any scopes.
I'm just about at the point where I want to turn the game in to Gamestop and get credit/cash.

Anything that requires reaction times that are faster than an average human would normally be able to manage.

Fuck you, FFX-2 and your stupid bullshit lightning tower calibration minigame.

If we're talking about PC games, the words "beautiful", "visceral" or even "3D" tend to put me off, because it almost invariably my computer won't run it.

Other than that, I avoid any games with an over-abundance of brown or grey, mainly because I've yet to find a game like that which is actually fun.

Call of Juarez and those ridiculous boss draws (challenge thing). Utterly unrealistic, if it was me, I would've got a high powered rifle and shot him in the back of the head from 200 meters, NOT pissing stand there like a chump and wait to get shot. In short, boss fights... hate them.

Apologies, I didn't read the subject, but screw you boss fights, they still suck!
OP, umm, when people say "over 4 different levels" as if 4 was a large number that gave replayability....

MP (my topic) DAMN YOU CALL OF JUAREZ!!!!

G-strings. Or dental-floss bikinis. I came here for awesome, not for sexual pandering.

Damn sluts, put on some clothes. My friend Ezio can give you some pointers.
