Terrorist attacks, school shootings, missing children, and the repression of three speech and basic human rights in 2/3rds of the world.

With today's cynical and defeatist society, not much even can surprise most anymore

I am no longer surprised by:
1) Things on the Internet;

2) Human stupidity;

3) Actions of a certain country, which I won't name to avoid sh*tstorms (although, a little hint: NOT USA).

Okay, my jaw's dropped. Evidently stuff like this still shocks me.

One thing that I'm not shocked by anymore is when someone puts out a story of a lawsuit that sounds too ridiculous to be true... and totally isn't true. I'd love for there to be at least one site where I can get news from without having to search for other articles for a half an hour after to find out what really happened.

Another thing that doesn't shock or surprise me is people's bias when they tell stories. Not that it doesn't make sense, who tells a story and makes themselves into the bad guy? If anyone makes themselves out to be clearly in the right I'm instantly skeptical, particularly if this happens a lot. I've got around a 50% chance of knowing the asshole in those stories, so I find it hard to believe that I'm always on the side of the good guy.

On the other hand, I am still ridiculously naive when it comes to flat out lies, those still shock me quite a bit.

Holocaust stories. I know, I'm awful, but after a while they all just blend together. I just read an article about a school in Kansas that spent $100,000 on a Holocaust memorial, and all I could think was "what the hell does the holocaust have to do with Kansas?" I know it's awful, but I'm honestly tired of yet another Holocaust book winning the Nobel Peace Prize, or another Holocaust film sweeping the Oscars. Maybe I'm cynical, but it feels like deliberate award bate at this point. You really want a Holocaust book that will knock you socks off? Read "This way to the Gas Ladies and Gentlemen." The narrators an asshole, but the book is raw and honest in a way most accounts aren't.

The only time I get surprised, really, is when something truly great happens, and gets the recognition it deserves.

Humans doing terrible things to other humans, both now and in history. Though present day atrocities feel worse because we're supposed to be more enlightened now.

Actually, I'm not sure I can say that, because every so often something happens that makes me say "I don't want to live on this planet anymore".

People claiming to be offended by something. It's just eye roll inducing to hear those words now. "I'm offended." "Gee what a suprise."

Also that people who say "As a mother/Father/Parent" have no idea what they are talking about. I've never heard anything intelligent following those words.

Yep... I "blame" e621 for that one in particular... Other than that, just seeing "fanservice" in [insert entertainment medium here] in general... What's that? That was only there to "appeal" to [insert "demographic" here] and nothing else? ...Meh.

Oh my glob... All of my "quotations" have turned into text-related "air quotes" in an "ironic fashion"... *Meh* It's always "sunny" in California, I guess...

Lets see....

Republicans and Democrats constantly selling out for money/power/popularity, especially the money, then claiming they're dead broke.

Our presidents telling bold faced lies and blaming the other side for their own screw ups. (Applies to both parties.)

Politicians on both sides pandering, taking what amount to bribes, lying profusely, and not giving a damn about the general population.

Politicians on both sides getting outraged over issues they could care less about, just to win votes/improve approval ratings. While still doing nothing about the issues they're so "outraged" about.

People treating someone who did something nice to/for them like the kind person is a total jerk.

People starting real life fights over what basically amounts to nothing.

Bus drivers being terrible at driving buses. (I am not kidding!)

People blaming Fox News Channel for bias when every other news outlet bar none is just as biased. Seriously they're all echo chambers. Local news seems to be the only place any actual news reporting with no bias is done, except in big cities.

There are way too many others to mention. One thing that did shock me. ISIS Burning 40 people alive... Not only is that a huge no-no to Muslims, but it's just plain cruel and sadistic, they make the Nazis look cuddly.

People's ability to completely deny reality if their beliefs or pet theories are challenged. Case in point, a few years ago I considered it completely stupefying how batshit insane creationist "theories" and "arguments" were. Today I consider them average at best. At least they don't claim Jews are from space and we are ruled by Martians from another vibratory level (whatever the hell that means...)

Essentially what they're talking about is that there are aliens, Martians for example, who rule us, but they're slightly out of phase with the way we can perceive the universe. So they're invisible, we can't hear them, or even touch them, but somehow they can control us.

So another thing for this particular topic: I'm no longer surprised by the off the wall theories that conspiracy theorists come up with. Then again my uncle is a David Icke buff, and spouts quotes from Mr. Icke.

I genuinely don't think anything I could read on the internet would surprise, shock or offend me at this point. I'm not really pessimistic, just highly apathetic.

This and movie superheroes wearing black, movie supervillains dying, and superheroes getting killed and coming back to life.
Thats why a lot of movie goers and fans aren't surprised any more if someone "dies" in the movie. They ill just come back to life anyway. Allegedly, someone dies in Age of Ultron. Doubt it cause they will just come back again through some whatever concept. There is also a strange fear of having the villain "win" and beat the hero in movies. That would be a surprise to me if that happened in a comic book movie.
