Greetings fellow Escapists! Now, I've been watching a fair bit of movies lately, and I've noticed a few things that annoyed me in them!

First off: In sequels, when the characters in the last movie are recast. Now I know that sometimes actors just can't come back, but what annoys me about it is when the replacement is just totally NOT the previous actor. Example: In the movie "Daddy Day Care", the main character is played by Eddie Murphy, and in the sequel, his character is now played by Cuba Gooding Jr.

Second: In Prequels, when they show characters that are in the chronologically second movie "in mortal peril". That just ruins any sort of suspense for me, because I know they'll survive one way or another. Example is in the Star Wars series.

So my fellow Escapians, what pisses you off in movies?

So they should...what? Live uneventful lives? Things have to happen to these people. I mean, if there hadn't been danger and peril, we likely never would have seen Darth Vader in the first place. I mean, not everyone had to be involved, but certainly several core characters needed to play their parts. It'd be boring if Obi-Wan and Anakin spent the prequels playing chess with no stakes.

I take your point about mortal peril, but the same applies to major characters in the first 15 minutes of a 2 hour film.

Well, I guess that makes sense. It just kinda ruins it for me when I know they survive it all.

Yeah, that's kinda B.S. too, unless they pull it out on us that they were the decoy protagonists.

Pretty much any justification of the plot by the latest science buzzwords. Totally ruined 2012 for me. And generally the fast-paced nature of most movies these days...I prefer camera angles that don't change every 20 seconds.

- Stereotypes in movies. Especially if they indeed die off rather quickly.
- The "decent guy and girl" always surviving
- Chase scenes that take forever
- The standard love interest

I hate it when an alien or monster is invincible to conventional weapons. Its such a cheap way to add drama. Although, I'm okay when the "alpha" monster or queen or whatever is invincible and its minions aren't.

I would change that to "prequels" for me. That's all, just prequels in general. I don't think there has EVER been a good prequel and the few that are actually good are prequels in name only (example: Indiana Jones Temple of Doom). Any good prequel would have been better as a stand-alone movie (example: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans).

Pretty much this. I can't be on the edge of my seat if I already know it all works out fine

It's a tiny thing but it always gets to me when Lightning and Thunder occur simultaneously. Sure it could be happening directly overhead but it still bugs me.

...20 seconds is a looooong time for one shot. Now, every 2 seconds is annoying (and especially 500 million shots in 2 seconds for a fight scene), but whatever.

OT: Kids. I hate kids. Especially screaming kids. And kids who think they're good at acting.

This is pretty much only a problem in American movies, but when characters from non-english speaking countries speak english. Especially if it's done with some horrible fake accent. I know it's done because it's convinient (and because of that "I don't go to the cinema to read!" thing), but it's still annoying.

Another thing is those pointess romance subplots.

The small factual errors or other mistakes that most people don't even notice would annoy me too, if it wasn't so much fun to try to spot them. It's really satisfying somehow, when you can go "hang on a second, that's not how that works".

It almost seems unnecessary to say it today, but that damn shaky-cam bullshit is something I will never forgive in an action movie. If you, as a director, are setting up an awesome, badass fight sequence then I, as your audience, would like to actually be able to see the Goddamn fight!

Need inspiration? Watch a few Tony Jaa movies. Jaa ruins peoples shit, looks awesome doing it, and you can see every hit! Bonus points if you get stunt performers willing to take a few shots for the sake of realism (like in the Tony Jaa example).

How the concept of an "undead" or "zombie" does not exist at all in that film universe. For once I would love to see a zombie movie were most of the cast know they are dealing with zombies (aid for the head and shoot their bitten comrades without hesitation).

When the bad guy's can't ever seem to hit the good guys, even if they are standing still in broad daylight a few dozen feet away. Also, i don't like how laser bolts "move" slowly through space and make the "pew pew" sort of sound.

While I like the Transformers movies, I hate it when the humans get more bullshit character development than the robots do. Okay with the first film it made sense, you were introducing it to people who have never watched Transformers, but I think by the second movie they should have got rid of the majority of human characters, and by that I mean everyone but the army.

More things I hate about the Transformers movies would be:
-Optimus saying One shall stand one shall fall, when he's getting his ass kicked.

-Megatron not turning into a gun. HA! No I'm just kidding about that one.

-Really really stupid plots, than again Generation 1 had a bucket of silly stories.

I guess that last complaint is the reason as to why I like all three movies because the movies were stupid and so was G1 and I love G1.

But back to the robots having little character development. I wasn't expecting the movies to be rich in character development like Beast Wars or Animated, but I was expecting that the characters have a sense of purpose about them when they don't.

So at the end of the day, I like the movies, they're stupid, but I like them, but I will always preferr the cartoons, or at least 5 of the Transformer cartoons.

Excessive cutting in action movies. Surely you can show a guy running from armed police or something without using 40 camera angles in the space of 12 seconds.

The big one however is not employing the right actors for accents. This is one of the many reasons I refuse to acknowledge the latest 3 musketeers movie, where are the French accents???
This is the reason I hold up The Day After Tomorrow, because they got the right nationalities to play the right characters!

Using prominent actors as an excuse to not have a good script or director. This is not anything against popular actors, most are popular for a reason, but selling a movie JUST because actor X is in it really bugs me. I can think of several films that have a good premise or plot but have terrible scripts, terrible directing and are still shown in theaters. They could be really good!
