What things or habits do you have, to look to, as a source of soothing?

For some reason, I've always liked it when people are either, like, reading something quite slowly, or just talking softly. It's hard to describe, but I guess I could point you to that early scene in The Matrix when Trinity meets Neo in that club and whispers to him in his ear. On top of that scene with Trinity being somewhat arousing, it just kind of comforted me, like when your parents or someone else was reading you a story, and you felt like going to sleep.

Another thing is videos or recordings of people playing the buttons, analog sticks, or whatever on video game controllers. There's a strong nostalgia factor there for me, as well as the fact that I just love the sound of someone tinkering with that refined hardware.

If I'm in a crowded area in say, a shopping mall, I would usually lean over a railing with a view to the lower floors and just listen to the many sounds and conversations surrounding me. Catching bits and pieces of information here and there. I also find studying body language and trying to identify mannerisms from a distance to be somewhat soothing.

I'm not a stalker!

<.<

I do these kind's of things when I'm waiting on a friend to arrive, etc.

When I have a huge headache I like to take extremely hot showers for temporary relief. I never figured out how that works tbh.

Hot head + really hot shower = Relief... somehow

There's a really soft bit behind my dog's big ear which he loves to be scratched. When we sit on the sofa watching TV I can sit for up to ten minutes and rub this spot behind his ear. I used to rub my mums friend horses's chin as it was soft and I could do that for ages too.

Also watching Jeremy Kyle as it reminds me there are worse people out there than me. :3

Shameful admission.

When im stressed i watch... the Joys of painting with Bob Ross... yeah...

Hes such a nice person. His voice is so relaxing and his technique is so beautiful. His entire attitude radiates calm and collected. You cant help but feel serene watching this man paint. I cant even draw and i really enjoy it. I really suggest as many people as possible check it out.

It's hardly weird, but I love the sound of rain.

Nothing soothes me more than listening to this site [http://www.rainymood.com/] with my eyes closed.

Looking at the Moon, generally gloomy weather like rain or fog, that time of the day when it's dark but not quite yet, specially if there are no lights around, exploring new places, lonely roads and abandoned buildings too, in fact I love it when it's really lonely, it feels sort of mystic like if I stepped into another dimension, also listening to music late at night but that has the side effect that it makes me tipsy and people generally tend to think that I'm drunk when I do that.

Randomly opening tabs and closing them again on the internet.

It's not exactly weird, but it's just so odd.
Oh my God, I was nearly sliding out of my chair. So soothing.

I think the most calming thing in the world to me would be if I could lay in complete silence it a all white room with a rug floor. I know it sounds odd but it would be perfectly silent with no distractions visually or verbally... pure bliss

The sound of rain is relaxing to me. I love it. And thunder and lightning. They soothe me.

The smell of a new book. It puts me in a relaxing mood where I can snuggle up with a blanket and the new book.

Playing Solitaire. It just makes me chillout. Especially with music on. It's also a great time for thinking, a lot of my life problems have been solved while playing solitaire. Also World of Warcraft has the same effect. Soothing and helps me solve any and every problem I have.

Staring up at the stars also soothes me.

The theme for L.A Noire. Gods that theme is so lovely, especially when it's raining.

Listen to the band, Air. A french musical duo. I don't listen to enough of them, but of the three songs on my MP3 Player I revisit the most with their work on it, Somewhere Between Waking and Sleeping, How Does it Make You Feel and Playground Love aren't cacophonies, but very simple sounds, very soft voices to a degree.

I am afraid of water, deeply so (I cannot swim), but when I hear their music, It makes me want to climb into a pool and just meditate to their sound.

Also, obligatory E.L.O. response from me:

Also, this:

It's rather peaceful, at least to me.

As far as physical soothing, I like having my hair touched. Perhaps a disgusting fact to mention, but when I was in Elementary School, and a lice outbreak was announced, a nurse was called in to check everybody, and when I got called in, the nurse would check my hair, and though I never had lice (ever), I always wanted their to be a lice nurse, just so I could have my hair touched. It really soothes me, dare I say, I have fallen asleep one or two times before because of that.

As far as anything physical goes... Ehh, i'm far too antisocial for that stuff obviously. XD

The thought that in 200 years we will all be dead, and what will people remember of us, what really matters?

It really puts all your worries about social stuff and life in perspective. We're only here for a short time, happiness is a state of mind, so screw circumstances and reason, I'm just going to be happy.

Also mentally ticking off those single achievement milestones in life that everyone pretty much needs or wants to be successful: Passing my driving test. (tick) Finishing Education (tick) Getting a permanent career (tick) Marrying (not yet, but someday...)

I do this too, so you're not alone! Only, for me, I do it when anything is ever wrong with me. xD Headaches, time of the month pains, fever, anything.

Anyway, to go along with this, when I'm really stressed and I need to relax and feel better I enjoy a good meditation session. .... In the shower. >.> Yeah. I don't know. Somehow I feel like the sound of the shower keeps things from distracting me.

I also enjoy nice, long drives. I think it stems from, as a kid every time I went in the car I'd always have my headphones and CD player. So now I enjoy just driving around and listening to music. Too bad gas costs so much....

I also enjoy having people play with my hands. >.>; Like, very lightly tracing the fold lines and what not. My hands are ridiculously sensitive, so it feels wonderful to me.
