This is a simple topic, games have many things about them that are good. However as was said by some guy in some country some years ago maybe:
"Nothing good can exist without something bad to conteract it"
meaning simply that. So with every good trend in games there is another equally BAD trend that causes the industry to get ridiculed. I already made a thread similar to this I believe but this is different because last time I asked what we needed to see less in order to be taken more seriously as an art form. Now I want to ask what particular trends in games you are really getting sick of, this can be anything ranging from gameplay mechanics to story elements to visuals.
I was going to use big breasted women as an example of things I'm sick of, but you know I think I and indeed everyone else has mentioned enough now to make eyeballs bleed so I won't use it. Instead I'll say something I am really sick of is wars based in a modern era, no matter how they vary from title to title I am really sick of modern warfare. I was sick of it back when people were still drooling about Call of Duty 4 and I am sick of it now. They all feel a wee bit too similar to each other and to be honest when I think of them as a franchise (Clancy games included by the way) I kind of like to think of them less as individual titles and more or less merged into one game and I shall bestow to it the title CALL OF GRITTY AMERICAN HEROISM AND BORDEM WARFARE DUTY 1,000,000.
(please don't get mad at what is essentially my view)

But that's me, what are you sick of seeing in games?

Mute, faceless characters. It's really hard to care for the protagonist, if he doesn't say a single word throughout the game. It kills the immersion. It's not so unbelieveably difficult and expensive to hire a voice actor.

QUICKTIME EVENTS

demo of ninja blade.
Press x to kill a bird while falling. Failing to press X will rewind the game to the same point where u press x. If u refuse to press x bird will not die and you will be in a infinite loop

Space marines.

They've been Earth's primary means of intergalactic warfare since the first Doom, with Halo only exacerbating the cliche by giving the space marines powered armor.

Large breasted women, guys with huge guns, Mario, Emo RPG characters, Alien invasions, space marines, bald space marines, stupid dick support characters, mellow drama, cover systems, Guitar Hero. I think thats all, I would love some originality in games soon, because at this rate I will stop playing games and just start writing novels.

I hate seeing military guys in suits with big gruff voices that sound like a teenager whose voice has just broke and act like twelve year olds. For example in Killzone 2 one of your dickhead squad starts making fun of the others mother throught the game. I can't remember his name, I just wanted him to die, even if it ment doing it myself.

I'm also sick of seeing games where your squad do NOTHING whatsoever and you have to go do everything while the enemy only shoots at you and your squad stands about. It pisses me off, I like games where it's like an actual battle, not you vs enemy while your guys stand about doing nothing like COD. Thats why Brothers in arms RULES!

I'm also sick of seeing Japanese emo guys that look like girls that always go on about how they're not strong genough or how it's all there fault

Button mashing sequences that drag on forever and are required. Having to switch to a certain gun because the game also requires it. Lack of any compelling story or dialogue for the sole reason of the love of "Pretty" graphics.

And by that you mean "A decent voice actor", I presume. Because a bad voice actor can be much worse then none at all.

"Realism". It started off as a term to describe how amazing some of the newer technology really was. Now it is overpowering trend surrounding every mechanic of a game. Realism is responsible for only being able to carry 2 friggin guns at a time, or running out of breath after sprinting 10 feet. Those 2 examples by themselves weren't really a problem, but now that every game uses them its annoying. Developers need to realize that realism doesn't always mean a good video game. After all, the most realistic video game would be playing through our every day lives, nobody wants to play that.

Awful Writing.

Right now I'm playing Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and it's hard to like the game when most of the dialogue is pretty awful(Not to mention, most of the Princes lines are something in the vein of "I'm angry! Rarrrrr!"). Oh, and the story and atmosphere are so goddamn generic. What happened to the writer of Sands of Time, who seemed to have a handle on the whole thing?

What I find really strange is that the Prince seems to realize that every time he tries to fix the situation, he only ends up making it worse, and yet the next thing that will happen is "Well, if I try this nonsensical scheme, things are sure to be fixed". For someone who's that emo, it's taking him an awful long time to decide that maybe suicide is the answer.
