Things you just don't get

One thing I don't get is why people would wear earrings. Putting a hole in the weirdest part of the body to hang shiny metal from it? Strikes me as odd, and if you really look at them they just look silly.

So what don't you get/understand?

I don't understand most religous people.

I don't understand the whole craze over fashion.

I don't understand any piercing. At least you can see earings, but belly button rings? In fact, most jewelry is pretty darn useless.

earings are just like regular rings, they're there to look pretty.

It's just that you can only put so much shiny metal and shaped stones on your fingers so you start looking for other places, like the ear.

The collider at Cern has completed testing ahead of schedule....Higgs Boson here we come :)

Earrings are just an adornment/trapping of any particular culture that finds them amusing, do you wear make-up? there are cultures/individuals that wouldn't 'get' that particular practice, so whatever it is you would say to them, imagine someone with earrings saying that to you :)

Getting drunk. Seriously, I could write entire essays on why it's the most senseless form of punishment for your body. What do you honestly get out of it? Most people I talk to hate the taste of hard liquor, but drink it anyway. They hate waking up with a hangover, hate embarrassing themselves when they're drunk, and so on and so on. Yet so many people, even on these forums are all about getting hammered/plastered/whatever you want to call it.

I just don't get it.

I don't get makeup either. I know they're meant to attract people, but its unfair to the person your attracting when they wake up and see what you REALLY look like.

The reason I've chosen to never drink alcohol is because it tastes nasty and nothing good ever comes from drinking. I agree 100% there.

Me too. I can see a drink or two, loosen your social barriers and such, but I can't for the life of me see the appeal of preventing memory formation (particularly since people usually get drunk at parties where you're supposed to have fun) and waking up with a severe headache. Well, after the first time at least, when the headache taught you you're lesson.

Things I don't get:
-Getting drunk (already been mentioned)
-Fashion/makeup (so much effort...doesn't change you as a person, only creates irritating stereotypes)
-Piercing (I don't need shiny things in my ears to prove I'm a girl)
-Dress codes (It's not what you wear it's who you are; looking 'fancy' often involves being uncomfortable, why bother?)

I'm sure there are others, but that's all I've got for now.

It's an excuse. Alcohol is a way to remove all of your restraints without having to do so completely consciously. Alcohol makes people do stupid things, things they wouldn't do without it. They drink because it lets them be crazy and unrestrained without actually being crazy and unrestrained.

You live.

Then you die.

Game over. And no, there isn't any cake.

lol Getting hammered is a nice change after too much work and college. Also sharing a beer with someone one on one is the best way to get know them.

Same here as well, glad to know I'm not alone with this feeling.
