Smashing Pumpkins
Rammstein - liked it at first, never thought I would love it
Nine Inch Nails - same deal as above
MUSTARD! It's so good!

Huh, guns?

When I was a kid I swallowed all the anti-gun propaganda and the crime series made in the US that made it seem that they should be heavily registered.

This went trough my teens. Looking back, I think I consider my-previous-self as a Marxist prick.

Later I realized.

Gun laws all over Europe has been tightening and yet violent crime is on the rise.

Criminals are protected by the law, victims are criminalized by the state.

It just hit me. Most of those TV series made in the US are set in big cities. But American cities actually have a lot of restrictions on guns.

I started using logic. Politicians claim that streets are safer! Yet they carry armed guards everywhere! If I was a millionaire or a politician every street would be safe for me!

When I look at how people need to have ridiculously overpriced licenses for a goddamn hobby full of restrictions.

Basically says "ohh, be careful with me, I am a potential murderer and I need to be kept in check, I can't possibly have a reason to own more than X boxes of ammo for this gun".

So yeah, I hated them a lot when I was a kid. Not anymore.

Not willing to discuss my view on laws. There are a lot of threads on the Escapist about that.

Mainly Groove metal. I really was not sure to think of it at first. It is just so different from anything else out there and... Well, just take a listen:

I have eventually grown to love the stuff, but I really did not know what to make of it at first. Also, The Talking Heads. They are most definitely an acquired taste.

I actually agree with both of yours. When I first played ME1 it felt clunky and awkward. Now I absolutely love it. And as an early teen metalhead I had a typical vendetta against rap music. I wouldn't say I love it, but I do enjoy rap and hip hop sometimes.

Most things that apply here are musical. Brand New I wasn't particularly interested in at first and now they're one of my favourite bands ever. It also took me a while to get into the more distorted aspects of metal and hardcore. Actually, most of the music I listen to these days had to grow on me, but it's worth it. That kind of music stays with you longer than music that you love for a few listens and then never listen to again.
These are all bands/albums/songs that I detested/wasn't interested in at first and I now like or love. I still dislike some of their older stuff though. E.g. Still hate James Blake's debut LP.

Men.. yeah that was a surprising one

Anyway, pop music, never thought I'd like all this snazzy fazzy modern music back in my 80s and classical music era, but now I love it as a genre.. and Im also (unfortunately) moving into almost club like music..

Warhammer 40K, used to think it was a bit boring and stale with all that complex codex stuff.. then I played the Dawn of War games and now I absolutely love the 40K universe

Also heavy metal or metal in general, went to a Rammstein gig, moshed for 2 hours, came out a reformed man with a passionate love for the german language and metal/rock

Pineapple on pizza. Absolutely abhorred the thought of it. Then was eating pizza my parents ordered in a movie theater. Stuff was on it, and it unnerved me. However, like that guy from Fear Factor with Rocky Mountain Oysters, the damndest thing happened. Now I can't get enough of it.
I also used to dislike Mountain Dew, but I now find it tolerable, and the different flavors are typically pretty good.

Dubstep, took me a while to get used to, now I love it.
And Pokemon Black and White, although I knew I would end up liking it eventually.

AC/DC,
I had the bad luck to listen to some of their not-so-good songs first, but when I head "Thunderstruck", I loved it...

MLP: FiM
Took me about 4 episodes to really understand truly how amazing the show was...

Unreal Tournament (the original, from '99) - when I first saw it, I thought "Unreal was an amazing single-player experience with a somewhat lackluster multiplayer. Why the HELL are they trying to compete with Quake 3?"

Then the answer came - because they COULD. And it DID.

I got the demo after I got bored of the Q3 demo, and fired it up for a few minutes.

Sometime after midnight I could not deny that I was rather having fun.

And I've never looked back.

A lot of Miracle of Sound's things took me a few listens to really get into them. But once I did get into them, I got into them hard

Pretty much every artist I love today. The biggest example is probably 'Human After All' by Daft Punk. I liked it but I didn't really 'get' it. Now that I understand its message, it's a masterpiece in my opinion.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Played it for 10 mins, didn't like the combat, so shelved it for 3 months. Finally came back to it over the summer holidays ( I was 11 at the time), played more of it, and fell in love.

Okay, I'll need some flame protection for this...

Final Fantasy 13. I *really* disliked it the first time around, got to the end, and the linearity of it just got to me and I quit like 45 minutes away from the ending. 2 years later I tried again and I loved the game.

MLP:FIM really doesn't count here in my opinion; the first 2 episodes are just bad, so of course everyone who likes it would of liked it from 3-4 onwards. This isn't coming from a fan by the way, just something who while not finding it that good himself, could easily see why people would.

Coldplay. When I first heard "Viva La Vida" my first inclination was to hate them, as it was a really over-hyped song. Later, Pandora played me some of their other stuff, and I grew to like them.

On that same note, Pandora Internet Radio. It has its flaws, but it beats spending time organizing and semblance of a playlist.
