When people talk about how they started gaming "old school" with the N64.
Makes me realize there are people who don't know games beyond the era of 3d.

I started gaming on an Atari console, and Commodore 64 computer.

People who haven't played the original 2 Splinter Cell games (the good ones) make me feel old.

Like a topic a while ago here about great games people played. Almost all the answers were games less then 10 years old. I myself stick with the fact that i think the snes has the greatest games i have ever played.

Makes me feel old when kids reminisce bands like "My Chemical Romance" and bands like that who have fallen out of fashion. I reminisce acts like Simon and Garfunkel- the Animals. Its a shame kids nowadays lose touch with the old classics and instead reminisce garbage like My Chemical Romance.

Someone may throw in the argument that "old" music will always be better than new- and in 50 years time people may look on My Chemical Romance as a true "classic" band- but cmon, I think I still have a point. House of the Rising Sun will always be one of the greatest songs ever written.
The house of the rising sun was not written by The Animals, it is an old folk song that they did a spectacular job singing, The Animals version is still my favourite though.

OT: I would have to say it is like others here, when people say how old the N64 or PS1 is, i started with an Atari and i am sure some think that is still young :p

Me personally?

When in those 'the first game you ever played ' kids remark that Halo was their first ever game.

My god, there was a whole lot of good (and better) games out there long before Halo came into being.

Give me strength.....

It's also amazing how many kids don't know who John Romero is, what he did, why he was the first game dev to ever really be a celebrity and why he's a total nobody now. And they certainly don't know what it felt like when he made us his *****, and what it was like to suck it down.

On an episode of Big Bang Theory, where Sheldon (who should know better) refers to the Nintendo 64 as old-school gaming. The N64 IS THE NEW UPSTART!

SNES is old-school. NES is old-school. N64 is not.

Anyone remember getting the first three levels of Duke Nukem 3D on a CD with a few other shareware games?

Anyone remember the SNES blasters?

Anyone remember when Modern Warfare was still called Call of Duty, and people thought making it modern-day was a gimmick that would never work? When SWAT was still called Police Quest and came with FMV? When Quake was praised for its cutting-edge graphics?

I grew up on Kye, on Ski or Die, on Ducktales, on Street Rod. On the original Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders.

Yeah, I'm *old*.

Anyone who says the NES (or, worse, the SNES) is "before my time". Damn kids today *waves cane*

You know what's before my time? Magnavox Odyssey.

My first ever experience of gaming was an Atari ST, ahh the days of text based games. I'm not even that old either >.>

Hmm i'd say it's when people start talking about Fallout 3 like it was the first game, go play the others and wasteland then we'll talk

Realising Halo is 10 years old already. That one really shocked me, I can't believe it's been so long.

That and people asking me what an N64 was. It's not like it's that old!
That's nothing. The first Duke Nukem is 19 years old, Half-life is 12, and Pokemon Red & Blue are 13.

OT: I grew up playing Wolfenstein 3D and Myst. To not have the feeling of being old is not an option.

When I look at my old rack of floppy disk games, now coasters, and realise it's been years since I've had the hardware to play them

This last time I updated my PC was the first time I removed the old floppy drive. It felt like tearing out a part of my soul, I tell you. I still have it packed up in the attack, with a box of blank floppies, just in case.

OT: I tell my wife we're old all the time. Especially since she's started complaining about "those kids and their reckless driving" whenever someone cuts her off. The funny part is, she's only 25. She hasn't even been driving for 10 years yet, and she's already a cranky old biddy! I came to terms with it years ago, but she's not used to being old yet :)

Remember what it was like explaining to your non-PC gaming friends why you just dropped 200 bucks on a sound card? How they were like "IT'S LIKE YOU BOUGHT A SUPER NINTENDO JUST FOR SOUND"? Doesn't it make you sad that kids these days won't have to go through that?

I'm 14, and kids at my school proclaim that the about the old Resident Evil games:
"That crap isn't even 3D!"
So?
Carlos (that one idiot whose accent flickered more than an old lightbulb) was a better character than most of the cast of Modern Warfare 2 combined! (Except Captain Price. He's still pretty badass).

There's also the fact that kids can't tell a SNES from an N64.
My teacher brought in a SNES that she plays on her lunch break.

Then there's all of the old games I played on Win'98 back when I was 4. We lived in a house with no central heating, no air conditioning, and only a wood stove to heat us in the winter.
But, my dad's tech support job insured that we had a PC, and I used to play Kid Pix on it.
Those were the days.
That was back when my mom ran her business out of a shed about the size of our kitchen.
Back when a DVD player was the coolest thing I'd ever seen in my life.
Those were the days.....
/sigh
