btw i don't hate twilight or CoD or bronies or whatever because hate is such a strong term. i'd rather say i dislike most of modern pop culture but hate is reserved for the important idiots/stupid events in my life.

too many things are cool to hate that actually don't have ANY impact at all on your life

I'm going to have to say, Egosoft's new X Rebirth. Its by no means perfect. But, for what it is, its an awesome looking game with that old familiar feeling egosoft plotline.

I could utterly destroy this entire post piece by piece in how wrong it is... But I guess I won't, because I'm lazy at 2:46am and it's outside what I feel like typing in this thread.

4E is really REALLY shitty compared to 3.0/3.5/Pathfinder.
Folksoul said:
* Warning! During the writing of what I thought was going to be a few sentences, it turned into a lecture.*

Dnd 4E. The structure is its strength. The inflexible turn based strategy combat ensured that no matter what class/race/backstory you assign your character, every build is effective and no one play-style breaks the game. Linear warriors AND linear wizards keep every player mechanically useful, unless the player rolls an unnaturally high amount of natural 1's.

Out of combat, it functions exactly like any other RPG, but with the fat trimmed. Instead of separate skills for running, climbing, and swimming, there is a single "Athletics" skill for example. The beautiful thing is, house rules for character idiosyncrasies do not make this a flaw. "Your hydrophobic fighter in full plate armor needs to swim cross a river. Roll an athletics check with a -X penalty." You can similarly subdivide "Arcana" into different schools of magic if the group wishes etc. The "dumbing down" of the role play mechanics takes approximately 10 seconds to reverse without losing the remarkably deep combat. If the group is new to DnD, stick to the rules as stated and have an easier creating and playing your character.

4E being a modern rpg that takes a lot of inspiration from video games in general, status ailments and buffs make up a huge part its system. It is really hard to die in 4E. Really. Unless no one wanted to play an "optimize the party" style leader class. Therefore, the challenge lies in defeating the enemy as efficiently as possible. Even traditionally less combat oriented classes can be instrumental in a decisive victory through damage, such as the Bard.

Yes, 4E turned Bards into spell casters, but the flavour is preserved and it gave them some teeth as well as their usual abilities of hindering enemies/aiding the party. For example, this is the text on an epic tier(level 29)bard attack spell.

["Satire of Leadership" Usable once an in-game day.

"Your verse mocks your foe?s leadership and bends reality to conform with your words; any enemy near your foe is more vulnerable to attack." Range 10. Charisma vs. Will

5d10 plus Charisma mod psychic damage. The target and each enemy within 3 squares of it take a -2 penalty to all defenses and gain vulnerable 5 to all damage (save ends both).]

On a critical, with a matching level enchanted implement, that could do approximately 100 damage. FROM. A. BARD!
At that level however, most enemies are gods/elder monstrosities with thousands of hit points, so its strength lies in the effect to soften the target up for players that can do more damage reliably with the damage as a perk, so as to maintain combat effectiveness without losing focus on the debilitation/optimization abilities the class is designed to do.

4e changed a lot. No argument here about that. Personally, I think its superior to 3/3.5 and Pathfinder combined. What was lost in character creation options I gained more than enough back in sheer fun experimenting with the combat.

Christians - Christians who "get it" are great. My favorite most respected person in the universe is a Christian. It's the crazies that are the problem and ruining it for the rest of them.

Megan Fox - She actually appears to be a lot smarter than she acts, and quite willingly and pointedly typecasts herself because she doesn't give a crap what people think of her. I can't say she's a bad actor when the roles she plays are all the same "Megan Fox" role that she's good at... I'd like to see exactly what else she can do exactly.

Ubisoft - Gets a LOT of flack for DRM stuff that isn't actually very bad or inconvenient, and they're constantly improving.
I think they just genuinely tried to take some steps they thought were needed, aaaand those steps turned out to be less than ideal. Now they're undoing some of that stuff and trying to fix things.
They've always seemed more like a company trying to plan for the future and just not always predicting things successfully, as opposed to EA and Activision - which clearly run off of pure greed.

The DualShock 3 - It's a MUCH better controller than people have been giving it credit for in the last few months.
It's no DualShock 4, but honestly, I'd take it any day over the 360 controller.

Kristen Stewart - Yea, Twilight is shitty as turd mountain, but she's pretty inoffensive. She's not nearly as bad of an actress as people think she is, and certainly not to a level that deserves the hate she gets.
I mean, okay, cheating on whathisface was a ***** move, but that's not actually what I see her get criticized for.

LOST - Fantastic show that just kinda.....ended less than ideally. I don't have a problem with the ending per se...so much as I have a problem with it being exactly the thing we predicted way earlier and they outright denied was the case.
That and it really doesn't make proper use of all/most of Chekov's Guns strewn throughout the series.

Prometheus - It was alright. Not great. Certainly not bad. A little dumb in places. Still interesting.

Nintendo - Nintendo is completely retarded when it comes to consoles and marketing, but their games are absolutely PEERLESS. First party Nintendo games are just a parade of masterpieces. Maybe not always innovative and revolutionary, but they almost always do what they set out to do almost perfectly.
Nintendo is still one of the best game companies out there.

Big Bang Theory - It's not even a bad show. Not great, but more than watchable when nothing else is on.

Nathan Drake - He's pretty....cool? Alright? I dunno. Good protagonist. Not sure what anyone could possibly find offensive about him....

Bronies - You know what? I consume an obscene amount of media in all forms, and have a HUGE arry of things to judge it against. My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic is actually pretty damn good (especially the first couple seasons). So I guess I'm a brony. And you know what? Fine. Most bronies are just fans of the shows just like we're fans of a hundred other shows. There are a few exceptionally strange weirdos out there doing a good job of being vocal and earning a bad reputation for the rest of us. In reality most of us are just people who appreciate that there's a well-written show that's adventurous and relentlessly upbeat and positive....while so much of the world is drowning in a sea of gritty grimdark reimaginings/reboots/whatever to the point that even Superman now kills people and carelessly destroys cities.
It's a breath of fresh air.

Everyone loves Loki.
We just want teen girls to have taste and standards.
We're fine with them liking interesting and awesome stuff.
It's the vapid/vacuous/insipid/superficial mass-produced pop-idiocy that we hate.

British weather. Obviously it only really gets hate from British people but my GOD can some of them whinge! People act as if a bit of rain is a terrifying monsoon (obviously even the smallest amount of flooding = the UK becoming the next Atlantis), heatwaves are droughts (they're SO much worse in other countries), any snow is a blizzard, and any ice is equivaent to a glacier ploughing through the entire country. Bugs the crap out of me, our weather's not perfect but it could be way worse and this country's perfectly capable of dealing with what we do experience.

Also EA. Yes they're dicks to their customers a lot of the time and no I'm not particularly fond of them but a lot of people seem blisfully unaware of how important they are in gaming. They're a huge part of the reason gaming has made it into mainstream culture today but they don't seem to get any thanks for that because they also created online passes. Not to mention all the developers relying on them and all the great franchises they've been behind for the last few years. I'm not saying they're angels, hell I'm not even saying they don't deserve their "worst company in America" label, just that negativity against them seems to have spiralled/ snowballed way out of proportion these days, you'd think it was literally run by satan and his minions the way some people talk.

There's dozens, maybe hundreds, more things getting undue hate but these were the two that sprang to mind first.

This. All of this. Seriously, the sheer amount of energy people put into hating something is mindboggling. If they put the same amount of effort into something positive I dare say the internet would be a much better place. It isn't even restricted to the internet either, people need to stop getting worked up over the smallest of things.

Twillight gets a bit more hate than it deserves, i think the first movie is quite decent, especially if you watch it with it's target audience in mind, the sequels are pretty bad though but i think the massive amount of hatred is quite unwarranted.

I watched a few of her Youtube videos yesterday for the first time, and I didn't find myself particularly disagreeing with anything she said. And I don't consider myself anywhere close to being a feminist. Granted it seemed like she was exaggerating how serious some issues in videogames are, but it was all pretty harmless
Agreed. I haven't seen all of her videos but even if her arguments aren't solid, she isn't hurting anyone. Some people are acting like she's taking away men's rights or that she's a stupid ***** for having a less than favourable opinion about their favourite games.

She might be making a mountain out of a mole hill but the reaction to her is just frankly disgusting. The person who made the game of beating her up needs some serious help.
I can say with confidence a fair bit of the hatred will boil down to "Woman has an opinion and is vocal about it? NOT ON MY INTERNET!"

Instead, I'll just say that bees get more hate then they should. Yeah they sting and it hurts, if not deadly to most but bees do keep our plants alive around the world and make sweet, sweet honey... but I would be fine with you hating on wasps and hornets. They're downright demonic in their own nature. Even killer bees are more merciful compared to like... the Japanese Hornet. They kill just to take over territory and will kill 1,000 bees in less then 2 hours. That's just evil.
It should be noted that japanese hornets are only capable of killing 1000 european bees in 2 hours, since they were imported into the country, and thus never evolved the defense mechanisms of their Japanese brethren (who avoid destruction at the hands of the hornet menace by detecting the scout hornets and turning their bodies into a living microwave to trap/kill it. it's pretty boss.) So yeshu, blame the Japanese beekeepers for the bee slaughter over there!

honestly, given the internet's temperment, it's a pretty safe bet that any subject you can think of gets more hate than it deserves. there are two sides to every story, after all.

The ending of ME3. Even without the EC (which makes the ending okay IMO) it still wasn't as bad as a lot of people say. Yes it came out of nowhere but the reasoning the AI gives does make some sense. Instead of letting organic life get wiped out by their own creations, the Reapers wipe them out themselves and then preserve each species in a way that they would never be completely gone. They considered it their duty to make sure other organically have a chance to survive by destroying the more advanced organics before they create an AI army that kills everything and simply rules for eternity. It's a stupid ending, but it does make some sense.
I'll go ahead and second that. To be perfectly honest, I still believe that, to a certain extent, the indoctrination theory is whats going on during the ending. But even if its not that, the ending really isn't the worst thing ever. Sure a lot of stuff doesn't really make sense and, as you said, it came really abrupt. The worst mistake it made imo. was not explaining what was going on good enough. I find that a large amount of people who hate the ending are missing some major points. I certainly wish the trilogy had gotten a better ending, but if you read some of the other endings that were considered for ME3, the one we got was actually one of the better ones and absolutely not the abomination many are calling it.

Don't you mean WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY out of proportion? :p

OT: I agree with that though - I guess it's just too much fun to exaggerate to ridiculous extremes. To name a few;

1) Sword Art Online - comes to mind cus there was a thread recently about it. OP liked it, most other people seemed to think it was from hell itself.

See? There's me exaggerating now! :p It is more fun than "most other people didn't agree"!

2) Christians - alright, I'm a tad biased since I am one myself. But seriously, what did we do!? 0.0 Since when did Christianity become the exclusive religion which is A-OK to openly and aggressively loathe? Please bear in the mind that there is (likely) not one Christian who will agree with "Everyone who says they are a Christian is one". We still disagree on plenty of stuff, the point where I'd say just because someone says they are a Christian doesn't mean they are one. There are other churches aside from Westboro Baptist...

It wouldn't be such a problem if those things in question weren't scarily manipulative and if they didn't capitalise on insecurity.

Sorry if I seem a bit bitter, but instant-failure stealth missions in AC:IV ARE FUCKING BULLSHIT!

*coughs*

I think that the last two Matrix movies get too much shit, the combat scenes were more spectacular, if more unnatural, and the emphasis on the philosophical elements, whilst a tad over-bearing at times wasn't that bad.

This is why I don't take sides in the religion argument; people tend to be grouped with the more extreme elements of their respective creed.

For eg: ask any Eastern European what they think of America and it's going to be negative pretty much across the board, because of the war in Iraq/9/11 conspiracy theories.

Yet I know that those views are pretty narrow minded, because it's more likely to assume that a given government is incompentent rather than brilliantly manipulative.

Most pop music. Granted, I may be biased/Stockholmed after listening to so much of it for my reviews, but a lot of people seem to confuse "Harmless, but not necessarily good." with "This is every problem with the pop industry right now!"

Am I saying that pop music, as a whole, is great, an artistic high? No, but most of it is light-hearted and fun, without being offensive. Why is that a bad thing? There are some bad pop stuff out there, but most of it fades away within a year, and pop music has never been consistently great.

For example, let's take a random year...1975. What were the top 10 songs?

1. Love Will Keep Us Together- Captain and Tenille
2. Rhinestone Cowboy- Glen Campbell
3. Philadelphia Freedom- Elton John
4. Before the Next Teardrop Falls- Freddy Fender
5. My Eyes Adored You- Frankie Valli
6. Shining Star- Earth, Wind, and Fire
7. Fame- David Bowie
8. Laughter in the Rain- Neil Sedaka
9. One of These Nights- Eagles
10. Thank God I'm A Country Boy- John Denver

Doesn't look all that amazing, does it? Sure, there are a few good songs, and a few artists that are still popular, but not all that many. By the way, biggest artist of 1975? Elton John, with a grand total of 3 hits, one of which was a cover, and none of which are ranked up as even his most well known songs (Philadelphia Freedom, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, and Someone Saved My Life Tonight).

All the problems people have with pop music now has always been the case. It's just that the forgettable stuff has been, well, forgotten.

The inter takes a lot of things out of porportion that it surprise me people don't pick up on these extremities.

CoD- I hear more call of duty talk outside of call of duty forum than there probably is in Call of Duty forums

EA- Yes they have bad practices but considering some corporations are using child labor or other human rights violation they don't need to be near worst company ever.

Fedoras\Neckbeards- Look I know there are crazy dudes out there but I believe they are small in the grand scheme of themes. by making this caricature folks are now better than those guys who see all feminist as fat lesbians. These arguments get no where because each side is arguing with a caricature as opposed to a human being.

people venting on the internet- let them vent rather have it online than taking it out on the real world. Though I loved when people vent about the venters i am a fan of irony.

feminist- i will admit I have met some on the hypocrite side and I have called them out on it but majority have been pretty cool and are not crazy man haters

social awkward people- mostly this is directed toward guys but MY GOD your better of being a charming sociopath than show any sign of awkwardness

The President- in general people overestimate the power the president is capable of its like having the most powerful position ever but really can't do much with it.

"unmanly" men\"unladylike" women- 2013 and I see people decrying the loss of "true" men and women what ever the hell that means. I really don't see why letting people be is so hard to grasp.

Sorry if that got too long and more passionate than I wanted it to be I can stop now because this is long enough lol.

George Lucas himself. I know a lot of people have said the prequels but I don't think anyone has actually mentioned George Lucas himself. Yes the prequels were not quite as high calibur as the originals. Still without him and Steven Spielburg the shape of the movie industry would not be the same. Others have probably said it better then I have but the tidal wave of cultural change that followed Star Wars is astronomical.

The Star Wars Prequels. I'm not saying they aren't bad but they sure aren't as bad as most people say. Revenge of The Sith was pretty enjoyable and The Phantom Menace was decent. The only one that really sucked was Attack of The Clones and still I would prefer to watch AOTC over some other films any day of the week.

George Lucas gets a lot of undeserved hate too.

George Lucas - I never really got the hate the man has received. All he did was make some bad movies that is it big fucking deal get over it.

People who have Religion - many people I know fallow some form of religion and none are assholes they all just want to live their lives it is just a few crazies who ruin it for everyone.

EA - I have to say that yes they have deserved it for some decisions made in recent history however in the past few months they have yet to pull any major shit as a company and hopefully we can put their ugly past behind them. So here is to the future.

Obama - I feel reluctant to put this one on here as I haven't met many who would "hate" him but at any rate he hasn't really done much of anything even Obamacare has been suspended as of this post so what is the problem.

Comic Sans. The fact that someone can have a vehement "hatred" for a font is absurd to me. Do something more productive with that energy, like fapping at images of pineapples.
