We seem to be having a lot of morality threads recently, most of them starting with "What would YOU blank blank blank?"

I've also noticed there's a lack of chairs...

Oh, and, i've noticed, that when a troll invades our beloved boards, we REALLY tell 'em off, don't we? Anyone remember that Joobnook fiasco awhile ago?
Ahhh Joobnook. That was a fun (but annoying) time.

It's not full of idiots like most other forums.

It's fun to just check it out without having to reply or anything like that.

Just that people are far more inclined to correct bad grammar/spelling then most other forums I've been to.

Sometimes it's nice. It keeps the forums relatively clean.

Sometimes it's obnoxious, especially when it's over minor errors.
No, it's really annoying when people disregard your whole post only because you forgot to capitalize an I..

The grammar/spelling/search bar nazis are the most annoying thing on here but thats all really.

I'm rather new but it seems very civil. Lots of atheists. And people are funnier than on most other forums.

Also I'm quite surprised about the lack of one-upmanship. Or maybe I just haven't witnessed it yet.

I'm on a girly magazine forum (I can only defend that by saying you get a really good superiority complex from it. And I'm a girl.) and no one cares about spelling and grammar. And if I ever complain about it, I get flamed. Positively enraging. And once, I made a thread about trolls (there was no rule sticky). And got flamed. Yeesh.

Well I'm newer here (despite my registration date)...but I find these boards are very mature. I'm lucky I was told about this place. :D

The community here is better then a lot of other game forums. And by better I mean most people here can carry actual discussions without resorting to name calling and flaming. There still are plenty of people who do flame and act like children here but it's miles ahead of the average game forum.

That quite a few people try to get their coursework answers on by making forums and try to appeal to people's sense of sympathy

oh yes. slaughtering trolls can get pretty epic. i've only been around long enough to see one epic troll hunt. mr. longname. but after that i knew the escapist was ma homecountry. (inside joke by the way dont ask)

It's the only civilized forum without censor programs.
oh yes. i have noticed that everywhere else i go you aren't allowed to write ''finish it''. because of the sh and the it. i couldn't believe that. it just floored me. but of course on the same site people would throw **** and cocksucker and all other manner of ill noun-age without so much as a second thought. epic fail on the censor programs.

1) There is a great diversity here; people from all sorts of backgrounds, countries, religions, ages, races... You name it, we've probably got some.

2) No-one seems to notice that the good Captain's name is OBLIVIOUS not Obvious. One of those tricks of the eye perhaps...

If I have one thing to say about the Escapist its that most of its members have a partisan love of the forum. Be they the pricks who will constantly leave unhelpful corrective comments so that "the forum becomes a better place" or the people who come in and post when they feel like it but lurk like crazy. The Escapist loves the Escapist for better or for worse.

There are things the Escapist community says are not in the forums, like console wars etc. And to a point its true, but they are often replaced with just as inane issues solely based on opinion where nothing is accomplished more than poo flinging and a bit flame. Things such as Mac vs. PC, things such as religion and science and a whole host of other things. We also have a horrendous amount of spam in the forums. Thousands of threads that all deal with your favorite X or Y, or the best X or Y or the stupidest X or Y. With the spam comes posters with massive post counts who are looked up to for their spam.

The Escapist certainly has a very tightly knit community as well. Being friends with one member means you are connected into a gigantic web of friends. Simply by going on IRC, after 2 weeks I had more friends. They're a great community. But with community comes the grudges and the name-dropping that can make the forum incredibly unfriendly at times. Threads are created with the sole purpose of talking about specific community members. Some are petitions to the mods on why famous members were banned. Some are long threads talking about why famous users are banned and why they're glad they're banned. Almost all of them end in people saying the forums aren't like they were before in the good 'ole days and no one looks forward to the future.

I've actually been on here long enough now that I've noticed a change even since November and early December when I first started lurking the forums and later joined. Escapist trends will continue. But I don't think this one will change:
Escapists love the 'Pist.

There sure are a lot of nerds here.
Kidding.

I've noticed the site publishes a lot more flamebait than they used to. I don't mind if tits the nature of the article to attract fanboys but some of them are needlessly provocatively titled and that just leads to fanboys skipping right to the comments so they can troll.
