Wait are are you younger so you can't play Halo, GoW or CoD or you're already going to buy them or you have no interest?
No interest, turned 18 last month :p

Do you get to create your own superhero or is there already a character made?
Well no it's not like "make your own superhero" it's already made, it was a bad analogy but you basically get super powers like super strength super sprint and super jump, you collect power ups that gradually improve them.

Well since you are a girl I can't help but suggest you get kinect and that dancing game... with some name.
Are you kidding me? Seriously? I mean...just...wow.

OT: I would recommend Saints Row 2 to the max like everyone else. I love that game to bits. The same goes with ME1 & 2 and Dragon Age: Origins/Awakening. I also picked up Trenched off the Arcade a while back, great game that I would recommend you try out. Also Assassins' Creed: Brotherhood is a fantastic game.

For the Price of an XBOX360, you can get a PC almost twis as good, and instead of waiting five years to get better graphics, you can update it anytime you like.

I am Still shocked at how stupid people can be when it comes to PC v Console, PC are and have always been at least 3 years ahead of Consoles, and in recent years, they has been a MASSIVE boost in PC gaming and games are always alot cheaper. With the Steam sales every week and all the Cheap to free Indie games out there, why would you even bother with any console outside of Nintendo's?

So yea, dont bother getting an XBOX, get a PC and Wait for the Wii-U.

Lies. You can pick up an Xbox for 50 quid if you have a cash generator near you, or its site. For a decent PC, you need to spend a few 100, and its ridiculous really, for a matter of cost, the Xbox is defnietely more efficient. You have to pay allot to upgrade aswell.
The Wii U won't even be close to the Xbox, looking at its track game record with the Wii, my expectations are low, but hey, that's just me.

Wait, what're you on about? Wheres Nintendo come into this anyway? The Wii U is a console ya know, so by what your saying, youd come under your own complaint. :S
I'd get LA Noire, and the Godfather 2, amazing games.

If I am lucky enough, I plan to get an Xbox this upcoming holiday. So I want to hear from the escapist, what are some games that you'd recommend?

This is not a "complain about games you hate" thread. Please recommend causal titles as well (that is not on the Kinect), and no Halo/Gears of War/Call of Duty games.
One important question that people really haven't mentioned yet, what kinds of games do you like to play?

If you like RPGs then BioWare is the developer of choice, people have already mention the Mass Effect games, both are great, and if you are getting the console during the holidays, Mass Effect 3 will only be a few months off from coming out. I also recommend both Dragon Origins(Get the Ultimate edition if you do get it, it contains all the DLC) and Dragon Age 2(don't believe all the flak it has receive, if you look at it through legitimate design stand points, it only has one flaw, thought it is overshadowed by how awesome the story, characters, and gameplay is).

As people have pointed out, get the Orange Box, if for nothing else, get it because it comes with Portal.

Both Fable 2 and 3 are good.

One thing I will point out, and I make this as a recommendation to people that have made some snarky comments to you:

Just because you are getting a 360, doesn't mean that you have to just look at the 360 exclusives. I would say with all the consoles and handhelds I have had over my 20 years of gaming, I would say that only about half of the games I have are platform exclusives.

On that note, will recommend Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, of course it was originally made for the PS3, who cares, it is great and you can get if for the 360.

Castlevania: LoS, is a reboot of the long running Castlevania series. You really don't need to know too much about the series to enjoy it, but if you have played some Castlevania games in the past, it will make some of the reveals, and shout-outs all the more sweeter. People harped on it because it isn't like the 2D mansion crawlers that heavily populate the series, and that is what I find refreshing about it. It is a very well put together hack and slash platformer. People also ragged on it, saying it was a God of War rip-off, but from my experience 95% of the game is made up of things that can be traced all the way back to when the series began on the NES.

Also, it is in the high end range for 360 graphics, the game is gorgeous, though that is only the icing on the cake.

But other than those games, I don't know exactly know what else to recommend that I like on my 360, that isn't the 3 Halo games I have for it, and you already mentioned that you like Borderlands.

I was Saying Nintendo do not do the same games as PC / other Consoles, they do different type of game, and the Wii-U will have TONES of third party stuff, and Loads of first party stuff, so if you have to STUPIDLY go for a Console over a PC for some wierd reason, I'd say wait for that. But as for PC's costing more, I agree I may not have realized how little the XBOX costs now, so I might have been wrong, but think of all the other things you can do with a PC; Internet, Edit, Write, Produce, Design, Watch videos, and other things, and as for Gaming, PC offers you so much more, and the extra money you spend, you get back from every game being on avage £10 less than consoles, and the countless amount of money you save in the Steam Deals they have every Holiday / Weekend, sometimes getting stuff like "Oblivion" for 95% off, now what costs more in the long run? It really depends how many games you play though, if you are a Casual gamer, a Consoles is fine if your getting one game every month, but if you play games quite abit, PC is definately the way to go these days.

You hit the nail right on the head. I really like the "create your own character rpgs", do you know any besides Fable and Mass Effect.

I'm curious, why did you comment here if you aren't going to be helpful for what the she is asking people to suggest?

From what I gather, she already has a PC that she has played games on, now she wants to get a 360.

What you are pointing out is a non-issue. On top of that, graphics are a non-issue as well. She asking for recommendations on what games are good. In such matters, graphics come last, because it doesn't matter how pretty a game looks, if it has bad gameplay and/or story, it isn't worth playing.

Besides, from my experience with PCs, if a person's gaming taste isn't hinged on having the latest and greatest geewhiz graphics, it is a cheaper and more practical choice for the person to get a console. I've had my 360 for two years, and it has already lasted longer and cost less then the last PC I upgraded to play the latest games at the time. Over ten years I had to constantly upgrade my computer to keep up with the graphics, even on lowest settings. I had to upgrade ever year and a half to two years. That is why to years ago, I said to hell with it and got a 360, for one reason, my friends felt the same way and did the same before I did, so I follow suit, and it was the best and most fun decision I have ever made.

But still, this is about 360 game recommendations, not let's beat each other over the head with our systems to see what is better. Because it really isn't about which is better, it is what platform fits the person and is more convenient. Having a 360 is a hell of a lot more convenient.

All I have to do is look to see if the box has 360 on the front of it.

-_-; As I said PC's are cheaper in the Long run, and if she has a PC, then all I can recommend are Xbox Only games, and in that case, why bother asking the question?

I'm not really sure since I've only in the past few months picked up a majority of those games I mentioned.

The only ones that I can think of that I haven't played but heard of, are Oblivion and the Fallout series.

I was never really a RPG player until recently, most RPGs I played in the past were the everything and the characters are already created type.

The only ones I have played other than what I mention, are the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games, on the PC. They were on the Original Xbox, and you can probably find them, and they do play on the 360, but they are buggy, because the weren't ported very well.

Don't worry, there is bound to be someone on here that knows more about these type of RPGs than I do.

The problem is that there just aren't that many big name developers that make such games these days. Smaller developers these days usually go route of non-create your own RPGs because it is easier to develop and costs less money.

I think all of these have been said, but to agree and reiterate.

-The Mass Effects are a must.
-All the Screeds. You can argue til the cows come home about which is better but they're all good.
-Prototype is ludicrously good fun if you've ever wondered if you should be sectioned.
-Dragon Age is pretty decent once you get used to the console controls.
-Cthulhu Saves the World is a really good and pretty funny old style RPG, that's on the XBLIG.

She is getting a 360, but this isn't entirely about recommending exclusives. People are recommending the Mass Effect series. The first one was on 360 and PC, and ME2 is on 360, PS3 and PC.

Same with the Dragon Age recommendations, they are on all three platforms.

She mentioned that she is looking for create your own character RPGs, and the only one that I mention that is exclusive is Fable 2 since it was the one that wasn't released on PC.

But my original point stands, the thread is about recommendations for games that can be played on the 360.

There was no reason for you to come in here and spout off that PCs are better. It is off topic and doesn't add anything to the thread.

It doesn't matter that you believe that PC's are cheaper. In this thread, it is a non-issue and has no place here.

I would reccommend Mortal Kombat, even if you are not big n fighting games it is probably the simplest and funnest out there atm, any elder scrolls games, and dead rising 2 was alot of fun.
