Well, after people have been harassing me and I've been throwing them on ignore, I actually wan to play World of Warcraft. I have a free trial, a friend who threw me another trial, and a friend who told me he'd pay for the first three months.

Here's the thing, I honestly have never been able to stand WoW. I looks utterly boring and a war of clicking. However, recently I've had the urge for an MMO, but Vindictus, Dungeon Fighter, and Maple Story aren't cutting it.

Someone convince me in or out of this.
Here is a handy guide.

1.Play the trial. Did you like it, Yes/No?

-If No, uninstall.

-If Yes then buy the World of Warcraft Battle Chest.

2. Are you still having fun, Yes/No?

-If No, uninstall.

-If Yes then keep playing and buy the next expansion as you come to the needed level range. In your case if your still having fun at level 68 buy Wrath of the Lich King. Then buy Cataclysm if your still having fun at level 80.

Also, I recommend the undead or troll as your first race, they have some of the better designed staring areas, but really just selecting what you think is nice will work just as fine.

Finding a nice guild of friendly people will also add to your enjoyment.

I spent 2 years on it and I'll tell you there's better things to do in life. If you have a family, focus on them. The only remotely interesting thing in WoW is raiding, and that's a huge time sink. With a half-decent guild, I'm talking like 20 hours a week. If you're not raiding, you're just stagnating and doing dailies everyday. And if you're raiding inconsistently, you're not getting anywhere either. It's not worth it to give it a chance to get between you and your family. You need to be able to alt+f4 at any time and not feel like a douchebag for ditching a bunch of people in your group, and WoW is tricky in that it sometimes will make it hard on you.

tl;dr: Family first.
This couldn't be farther from the truth. I raid two nights a week for two and a half hours at a time. I log in maybe a little before raid and do dailies. We're working on learning Nef and Cho'Gall right now.

OP: Give it a try. It's a great game, and despite what nostalgia-blinded folks say, it's better now than it's ever been.

Also, I really get the feeling people have never played a game with actual grind if they think WoW is "grind-y."

Dungeon Fighter isn't cutting it? Don't... under... stand...

I say give it a try, I ended up not liking it a whole lot after playing it for a while, but I know it's possible to enjoy the game because I have, just not very consistently.

Id suggest avoiding the game like the plague after it consumed my early teen years. I played the game foe 6 years from beta to cata and while it is the best mmorpg on the market in terms of playability, it just isn't worth it in the long run.

Agreed. It can be a grind, but only in so much as you want it to be, for example the netherwing dailies for the netherdrake back in the day.

I love how people cry grind, when they blatantly have never played a true grindy game.

I'll agree with the sensible people. Unless you're really weird in the head, you won't get addicted. It's a fun game, and much better to play with friends. You'll have great fun with it and have plenty to do for ages. I however have played for 4 years and have completely run out of things to do :(

Enjoy the innocence of having to learn everything for yourself, it really sucks when it's gone.

Its addictiveness depends on what you like doing, the appeal to the game is raiding, you don't get a sense of that until you've already sunk many hours into it and by then you will probably get bored. Ive played dozens of mmos over the past 12 years and WoW in my opinion is definitely the best and most polished overall, albeit unoriginal. It's just hard for me to imagine new players starting out in the game now when its on its steep decline from it's glory days. 10 day trial means nothing, you can't know a game based on leveling at low levels, the game doesnt start til max level.

I played it on and off for about a year this was years ago. Hit level seventy and realized the future would be filled with getting yelled at by 15 year olds on power trips called Guild leaders and his D bag friends while doing meaningless raids for armor to do better raids to get better armor and then I cancelled my subscription. My time wasn't worth much back then but It wasn't that worthless.

A friend who seemed like a pretty stable dude I showed him the game and he didn't seem interested at first..He played it a bit and his life got pretty ****ed. He only ate once a day because he was to busy playing WoW. The guy was like 6 ft 6 and could bench press basically anyone he wanted if he felt like it. Then he lost a ton of weight from that whole starving himself, then he dropped out of college and basically spent a few years in his room just playing WoW. His mom finally got him to at least slow up somewhat because she forced him to get a job but I know he is still playing.

Point is that may not happen to you but you just never know. I've seen it happen to alot of other people as well. Just walk away go try something else. It isn't worth it.

You're pretty much right, it's basically clicking and walking around. I got a fourteen-day free trial and it was off my hard drive in two hours. They say they try to cut down on the grind, but they must have cut it down from millions to only thousands, because there was a hell of grind when I played it. Which admittedly was around the time the first expansion came out, but if the core is that dull I don't want the accessories.

It took you four years to realise? Wow... It took me two years up until just before WotLK came out to realise Blizzard was buttraping my blood elf paladin and levelling way too much before I left. Also my friend who I helped get a gamecard so we could play surpassed me in level and I felt that his jibes were getting a bit much and trying to someone to run through a good lvl 30 instance was a right chore as everyone else was in Outland. But lately Cata has been alluring.

Don't touch it...It sank 5 years of my life primarily highschool and it took ages to reinstate myself back as a sociable person. It's not because it's bad...It's just amazingly good and offers 2 months worth of content for the fee of 1 month.Trust me it does :D.

But why do it when you can do other stuff and play varied games.

If they're giving it to you for free for a fw months then you might as well try it & then after a few months you can see if it's good enough to pay for yourself, so ya, give it a go.
I haven't tried WOW by the way...

Oh I realized it was EVIL!!!!! by the 2nd year when LK came out, but I continued playing anyway. I had quit for a few months and then Cata came out and I played it again. Got bored of Cata REALLY fast (helps that I also only had 1 friend who still played and was almost never on)

I stopped playing wow 1 year and 6 months ago and I still wanna go back to it, it's probably one of the best games I've ever played. If you don't think it's scary enought with somebody willing to play WoW for 1 and a half year I can't help you...

I personally prefer quicker progression. The guild I played with has been 13/13H for a long, long time. Anything less than that wouldn't be fun to me. And that much time investment for me just isn't practical or even worth it anymore.
