Third person ..over the shoulder. It enables me to see Leon's hips swaying as he saunters around villages. Makes me feel like I'm really physically close to him, like maybe he can feel my breath on his neck, or I can smell his hair. Speaking of which, he needs a more revealing alternate costume.
I believer sir, that you have just won the thread.

Here, have this:

I prefer First Person. If your peripheral vision is going to suck, at least it won't be because your avatar is also in the way.

o_O..

ok..then..

OT:

it depends on the kind of setting, if say, the game in question focuses more on how to get through a level than straight up murdering third person

if i'm going in to kill like a bad-ass first person :D?
Don't be alarmed, your response is the correct one :p.
either way..I'd take my chances with nemesis..before running into..whatever zombie you'd be if I were Leon o_O..

that would be a horrible thing to happen!

unless you were human

then "oh baby ;D"
I'd probably be one of the more military-type zombies you encounter near the end, making a futile attempt at using my sniper-rifle to try and look up Leon's ..skirt.

I was human ..once ;_;?

Usually I prefer first person, but I liked how Rainbow Six Vegas merged the two, it flowed very nicely.

I've always liked third person. It's like watching an action movie and being in control of the main character which is pretty cool. You can do anything a RL soldier can do with taking cover, actual melee moves, blindfire etc. The idea of first person is to make it like you are actually the soldier. This is far more ambitious/cool. However it doesn't really work that way for me. Maybe it's just because I suck at FPS and am good at TPS, but I actually find FPS less immersive. When playing FPS I don't feel like I'm a real soldier, I feel like I'm watching a movie with a really terrible POV and my inability to take cover, see barriers to my movement that are below eye level forcefully reminds me I'm playing a game.

i play a bunch of fps, because that's what the average main market is, but i prefer 3rd person immensely, i prefer the more strategic combat and i absolutely HATE not having peripheral vision, it bugs the living hell out of me, plus getting stuck on random 3 pixel corners or bumps in the map causing you to die is the biggest load of horseshit, also not knowing if your truly behind some cover or not when getting away from enemy fire, so when it comes to jumping/using your environment, i greatly prefer 3rd person, but just random twitch shooters like COD and counterstrike work better for first person (off topic, im so fucking pumped for socom 4 to come out, time to put these over the shoulder cover snapped shooters to shame, time for some free flowing camoflauge online rape!)

Eh, either way. I play "Halo" and "Gears Of War". Funny thing is those games are reaally meant to work THAT WAY. "Gears" couldn't work first person and "Halo" couldn't work third; minus the turrets.

It works for Ashley, so I'll just have to design Leon's new alternate costume around that. Also, I'm envisioning pasties.

I greatly prefer third person over third.
The number of games I own where you can play in first person: four (TF2, Borderlands, Oblivion, Fallout: New Vegas)
The number of games I play in first person and enjoy: two (TF2 and Oblivion, but I explore in third person)
That's right, I play New Vegas entirely in third person and just don't like Borderlands.

There's just something about seeing my character. It's probably because I don't think of myself as the character, but as me experiencing the life of that character. Something about first person just makes the experience feel hollow to me.

Half and half... First person may be a little more easy to get kills, but third person lets you see the world around you. Lots of times in third person games, I'll stand by a wall and use the magical camera to peek around it. So it's not as realistic, it's a nice feature.

Competitive games over the internet have to be first person.
Single player or two player modes can be either or.
Competitive LAN must be third person.

I've always prefer 3rd. I don't like the weird depth perception and no preriferal vision of first.
most new FPS games, to increase FPS use 50-55 Field of Vision, which is near impossible to see anything. Battlefield badcompany 2 for example uses 50, the lowest I've ever seen, most older FPS games use 60-75 games like TF2 and CSS use 90-120 and you can easily change those settings in your options, 120 is perfect. valve understands this and thats why they let you do it, everyone else is worried about your system or the consoles restrictions. so they use HORRIBLE FoV. so yes becuz of that I have switched to third person in games like ARMA2
