Emulation takes so much away from the charm of the original. I prefer to own the games I play for the PSX. I can't fathom how you could comfortably play any of these games on anything but a Dualshock controller.ZippyDSMlee said:

It's world was the foundations that lead to a spinoff story so good (FF Tactics) that the spinoff's world Rababastre got a full game in it called FF 12. It was nice to see Tenchu get a nod as well. A game about Ninjas where that played like Ninjas and not just Japanese Anime Batman sometimes with superpowers.
I understand why some games I've played aren't on the list but I have to mention them anyways.

Bushido Blade 1&2.(PSOne)
The best sword fighting game of all time. Sorry SW Jedi Knight. One hit kills. Limb damage that lead to drawbacks (having to wield a 2 handed sword in one hand poorly), and no super special move BS like that has gotten into most fighting games barring Tekken.
Blade of Darkness (PC)
The 90s Dark Souls.
Urban Reign (PS2)
The only best arena style fighting game of all time. Screw Power Stone. It was fun but mechanically has aged not so well. Screw Def Jam fight for NY. Game was great but they could have removed the rappers and just the ever successful AKI Corp fighting engine to make a great franchise.
Namco really needs to make a successor.

Amen to this. I think BB1 is one of the best fighting games ever designed. I found it to be superior to the sequel, though I did like the addition of more characters and weapons.AzrealMaximillion said:

I found Oni to be quite enjoyable, though the controls could be a bit clunky at times. It was HARD too once you got near the end of the game. I never did beat it.
I loved Tenchu as well and enjoyed the first two sequels. After that, the series kinda went downhill and just felt like they were cashing in on the name. The Wii game has some interesting elements to it, but it's really weird to control with a Wii-mote. Because of all the sequels, though, I don't think I'd consider this a forgotten game.
How about Crusader: No Remorse (and No Regret)? I had a lot of fun with those two games.
It gets the functionality of the DualShock2 done. I honestly don't get why people hate on the DS3 so much. I get why they don't like it but it wasn't garbage compared to the DS 2. My buttons were in the same place and the d-pad was and still is the best when it comes to fighting games.Gxas said:

Cool little thing about Sacrifice, just out of curiosity I tried out its online multiplayer last year to see if I could find any players and... I actually did, people still play this absolute gem of a game!!
Also had a few warm nostalgic feelings while going through that list, man Oni was bananas back then, the gameplay actually aged wonderfully now that I think of it, was one of the first game I remember playing that didn't have the standard tank controls. Freedom Fighters also still remains one of the best third person shooters I've ever played, such a pity it never really took off.
Kinda bummed that Scrapland didn't get included here (still too new maybe?), one of American Mcgee's best work if you ask me, that game was just overflowing with robot-y charm and had a pretty good story with some great arcade spaceship gameplay, doubt it ever really got noticed though.

Yeah, freedom fighters, Eternal Darkness, some really obvious ones and some very obscure games. I'd just add... well I'm a fan of a lot of forgotten games.

Some of those, obviously more obscure than others. I'm guessing most of you could identify Mercenaries and Yar's Revenge, but I'd also guess few could remember Tecmo's Deception (2 - Trapt, the first one was terrible) or guess which Quarantine I was talking about.
The best of the list would probably go to Deception, I can't believe something hasn't tried to revive this. The story and dialogue were crap, but no other game has ever had such fun (and totally sadistic) gameplay.
Here's a wayback I'd guess few remember... Noctropolis. I'd like to see a sequel, Noctropolis 2: The Power of Ultimate Lure.

I had a blast playing Return Fire at my friend's place once upon a time, and I'd forgotten what it was called until today. This is truly a grand occasion.
Beyond that, I always support Mischief Makers getting the praise it deserves.

I would like to turn attention to the ChuChu Rocket section...

It's definitely a game I would heartily recommend, even though part of why I like it so much might be because of the time at and the place in and the person with who/which I played it with. All in all, it has a great atmosphere and good gameplay mechanics. Bundles of fun in co-op.
I've seen some of these other games played in videos (like ChuChu Rocket, Vib Ribbon, Tenchu, Return Fire and Oni, FreQuency, Freedom Fighters, Eternal Darkness etc), and most of them look like stepping stones to later better games that overshadowed them (like Tenchu, Oni, FreQuency, Freedom Fighters) and some are games that are probably fun in short bursts, but for me as a gamer who is not particularly noteworthy for his accomplishments, and thus would see not much pleasure in seeking virtuosity in these games, and would not hold much long-term value (like ChuChu Rocket and Vib Ribbon in particular, despite the fact that Vib Ribbon has a really interesting, fantastic art style and I have played a similar game on iOS, called Lub vs Dub).
