Come on now, I can't be the only one who finds this situation ironic. A group of people who advocate free speech everywhere is threatening to attack a group of people because they use that right. I don't care how small of a minority they are, they have a right to preach their own thoughts and Anon, of all people, should respect that right.
Eh...they believe in their own free speech. Few people believe in the free speech of others.

[small]And it's not like Anonymous has a doctrine all members follow.[/small]

Personally, I'm all for attacking WBC. Totally free speech is a strange idea that's never been accepted by the mainstream of any society...everyone tends to draw lines, and I feel that the WBC went far beyond it quite some time ago.
Besides, there's a difference between free speech and hate speech (which is why it's fine (legally, anyway) to say in the privacy of your own home 'I hate niggers', but not fine to get a soapbox and scream 'LYNCH THE DARKIES!' in a public place).

Quick question. What determines Anon? People seem to say it is 4chan, but it seems to me Anon is just the term used for when the internet community rises up against something.

Also, they called Anon little girls then little boys within the same paragraph, WBC is dumb and redundant.

I honestly hope they get hacked.
4chan is the hub, but Anon is just anyone on the internet that gives a shit at the time.

Both sides there want publicity. It's a basic fact that no one takes the WBC seriously, so Anonymous can't be seriously crusading here.
As for the letter, it was awfully written (Clearly God also hates English class) and, as usual, it just shows the WBC's conflicting stupidity in beliefs and cunning in gaining publicity.

I hope these groups destroy each other, I really do, I gave up hope in humanity a long time ago. Now I think it's, as George Carlin would say: "One big Circus".

Well... huh.

I once explained the actions of "anonymous," to a friend of mine once. I explained that they were a repressive force upon extreme viewpoints. I explained that they distributed information about individuals whom made themselves 'extremely public,' by claiming their own infallibility, and declaring all others to be in folly.

My friend replied that he was horrified by the prospect of a person, regardless of how caustic they might be, being punished for stating an opinion.

Both sides are endearing to me, and I am still undecided as to which I would align myself.

Hmmmm...
Not sure why this group of retards is painting a target on themselves, and saying "COME AT ME BRO!" @ Anon.
They HAVE to have heard that Anon has taken down the FBI site, big bank sites, and even internet security sites.
I can think of two reasons why they would do this (if it even was this church, and not someone from Anon, that sent this):

1. They want to prove that the 'righteous word of god cannot be brought down by hackers'
or
2. They WANT Anon to hack them, and a 3rd party pounces on Anon when it happens

I'm still pretty sure Anon will be fine no matter what it does with this situation, but I am sceptical as to what will happen.

Ugh. Once again, Westboro rears its stupid, ugly head to make Christians look bad.

Look Westboro, I am a Christian. And regardless of my views on homosexuality, I don't hate gay people, and nowhere in the Bible is there foundation to say that God does. Nowhere. All you're doing is giving the world good reason to hate Christianity based on the false, ignorant propaganda that you idiots are spewing. Seriously. Shut up.

Erm... Why is everyone talking to "Anonymous" as if it where an Entity? I am Anonymous, and so are you. And You! And even you!
One could do something and claim to be an "Agent" or "Member" of Anonymous and no one, not even a certain group who acted as "Anonymous" could argue about the concept. Except when you get caught, you're definitely no longer anonymous.

Anonymous is pretty much everyone who is not known. There is this Group who act as anon and they have the "right" to do so, since they are not known and even if they where one can't make a connection to any real Person.

About this Website, i'd hack it, place the same document there with some Changes in which i'd add some Counterpoints at the bottom in which i'd criticize this Church for insulting and attacking People.
I wouldn't take over this site and link it to gay porn, the WBC has the right to give everyone a piece of their mind like everyone else does.
However, in hacking this website and adding something i'd exercise my own right to free speech.

I would keep this open letter intact and then add that no Christian has the right to bend the Word of the Lord to fit your own needs. Also, you shouldn't take the Lord's Name in vain, like for example by insulting, attacking and trying to provoke a group that has done nothing to you and then claim that there can be no weapon against People who believe in the Lord.
Wether you believe in the oldest of the old People or not, you'd have to agree that the Westboro Church somehow managed to misinterpret the Bible and make it sound even more violent, narrowminded and stupid. Maybe if those People can be persuaded into reading the Bible again they'd shut their Traps for a while.

But maybe that's not such a good Idea, the Bible is pretty much the most disgusting book i've ever read, practically dripping with the Blood of millions of innocent People that have been viciously killed by God.
Oh well.

Maybe someone should hack this site, leave the open letter intact and then add something like: "Christianity has turned some People into Fanatics that wrote this!" And then add a pamphlet for "Godzilla-ism".

I do like the theory that anonymous sent this to themselves via westboro. If this is real there are some dire implications for the whole of the human race, but made worse by the fact that the letter pretty mutch admits it's a publicity stunt.
This lot are rather like missionaries in the eighteenth century. They just want to force in christianity everywhere they can, not because they genuinely think they are helping people, but because they think god will look down on them themselves more charitably. I am genuinely saddened that such backward, selfish and dangerous thinking still exists.

Just read part of Anon's letter to WBC. Have to agree with what they say.

Your demonstrations and your unrelenting cascade of disparaging slurs, unfounded judgments, and prejudicial innuendos, which apparently apply to every individual numbered amongst the race of Man - except for yourselves - has frequently crossed the line which separates Freedom of Speech from deliberately utilizing the same tactics and methods of intimidation and mental & emotional abuse that have been previously exploited and employed by tyrants and dictators, fascists and terrorist organizations throughout history.

I'm all for free speech but when it's at the detriment of others it cannot be tolerated. WBC should be stopped and as they hide behind the 1st amendment, making them untouchable to government Anon is our best weapon against these bigoted morons.

Yeah yeah, god hates this and that, but he's damn far away. Everyone hates the WBC, everyone. I hate them, you hate them, god hates them, Satan hates them, and I'd be damn surprised if they didn't hate themselves.

I think the best thing Anon could do would be a Denial Of Service attack. Eliminate any attention the websites get, combine this with a high profile attack on a government organisation to divert media attention away from their DoS attack and Anon has won. They will have starved the WBC of all their attention whilst at the same time rising up to, and meeting, the WBC's challenges.

If they did that then it'd be awesome, really.
