It's only a hate crime if premeditated intent is determined, simply hitting someone of a different race doesn't constitute a hate crime.

Anyway, without knowing the full nature of the argument that led to the "name-dropping", I can't make a call on this outside of, "you might have gone a little too far after 'shut the hell up!'." You weren't part of their discussion, but you definitely had a right to complain when it became less-than-civil. If she wants to praise the man behind the desk because of the color of his skin, that's her own loss, but if she starts shouting his name and toppling furniture, no one should hold it against you to ask her to keep it down. Anything after that, sorry, but you're on your own.

I'm sorry but no, you can't do that. You weren't part of their conversation, yet you jumped up and just started calling her a
damn gutter slut?
Yeah, thats not gonna work mate. Sorry but you deserved it, I don't get angry a lot but if you called my girlfriend or sister a gutter slut I would have decked you as well. I understand yu were trying to get your point across, but there are better ways then that.

You detect shit, I'm a girl from the middle of New Jersey that's had it up to the hilt with this same issue. I was watching "There will be Brawl" when the topic came up on the side bar and I clicked out of curiosity. I watched 9 people post soft-soaked pandering to political correctness and couldn't stand it anymore.

Edit: And hell if I care, I don't use the damn forum. If I get reported and banned it'll just stand as a testament to what we've become, where an opposing opinion with a little colorful language is a bannable offense, because HEAVEN FORBID WE HURT SOMEONE'S WITTLE FEELINGS.
Look, we're not saying what we said because it's politically correct. We said it because you're attacks on that woman were completely unjustified. You didn't have to be so rude. You didn't have to humiliate her in public. You're going to get little sympathy when you act in such an irrational manner.

You lost all my sympathy during that uncontrolled rant.
See?

You should have just asked her to keep her voice down. Sure she might still have been offended, but at least you would have been civil.

It is never necessary to call someone a "gutter slut".

A little too far? I think not. You should all try stepping out of your comfort zone every now an again.
If steeping out of my comfort zone makes me rage at people in public, then I'd rather not.

Don't talk at me, I'm not the OP >_<; You people are too jaded to believe that there's someone else on the face of the planet who has the same opinion as this guy and feels just as strongly about this subject? Seriously?

I'm not justifying flipping tables and yelling at people, I'm justifying being genuinely pissed off at ignorance, especially when it comes to this Obama nonsense. We've been passive and unresponsive for too long and I support standing up and saying something, even if it's 'not nice'. Don't misjudge me.

P.S. I know how to spell achievement.
Edit: And speech.

Well you never really understood why she was doing it, you just kind of assumed it was cos she was black which entitles you to getting hit, but defending yourself you shouldn't be charged with a hate crime cos the person who hit you is black.

Racism works both ways, against all races including white people so defending yourself is still jsut defending yourself, even if you did kind of deserve the smack.

But I'm one of the only people I know who like Obama for what he stands for and his accomplishments, even if at the moment that isn't a great amount. I see the fact that he's black as a little bonus to his presidency and the sad thing is I'm British with American friends.

But it is actually racist to just like him cos he's black. Sure it doesnt hurt anyone but it is treating him different because of his race.

It's seems incredibly unlikely that anyone would join just to do that. Especially when you claim to not give a damn about the forum. If you didn't give a damn about the forum then why would you have come into this thread in the first place?

You shouldn't be genuinely pissed off at ignorance. Someone can only be ignorant if they have not learned all the facts. If that's the case, then you should calmly explain the facts to them, and then let them form their own opinion based on these facts. You should never try to shove your opinions down other people's throats in a rude and aggressive manner. A proper debate would focus on the issue at hand, rather than insulting people.

Also, keep in mind that this whole thing happened in Denny's at 4 in the morning. Call me crazy, but I don't think that's the proper time to get into a debate with someone.

I don't care about being banned because I don't use this forum- Obviously I just joined and these are my only posts.

I don't care about the forum because frankly I didn't even know it was here until tonight, I just come here to watch Zero Punctuation and There will be Brawl.

This subject happens to be a sore spot for me, and like I said, couldn't let stand that nobody supported this guy and everyone wanted to just tell him how rude he was.

There's a time for debate and there's a time for action. I feel too many people prefer to 'debate' and then blow off steam later where it's unproductive than to just speak their mind with passion when it matters. I'm not afraid to speak my mind on the street, I don't need the computer to say these things. I'm neither a puppet nor a troll, I'm just a real person, with real feelings, about a real issue.

Yes, it was Denny's at 4 in the morning. What does that matter? We're not allowed to be people outside of normal business hours?

I live in America despite the intelegent decision being "get the fuck out", and as such am treated with bursts of increasing ignorance with rabbid ferocity. the latest of which caused foam to form at the corners of my mouth and rage to spew forth with little stemming the tide. Here's what happened:

[stuff]

Help me out here.
1. You're assuming that the girl liked Obama only because he was black. Maybe she had other reasons.
2. Your debating style needs work. Debate in a calm, rational manner and people will be more likely to listen. Fly into a tizzy and you will rub people the wrong way.
3. Don't act like a thug, it's childish. Act like a baby and you will be treated like a baby i.e locked in a cage and fed meals through the bars.
4. "Toppling the table" means you started the physical element and were acting in a threatening physical manner. The guy who punched you was just acting in self-defense at a perceived threat.
5. It's arguably a hate crime because if the people were white you might not have done this.
6. It was none of your business anyway, you could have just ignored it.
hate crime is a bullshit term and it's originator needs to be shot (revived first if necessary) aside from that I agree with everything, OP you're fucking stupid, but again elongated sentence is ass.
I agree that hate crime is not a good term, I don't really like that particular law myself. But given that the law DOES exist in the US, I can see why in that particular scenario it might be used. The crux of it is this: were some white folks doing exactly the same thing, would the OP have done what he did? This is what needs to be proved or disproved in a courtroom for the "hate crime" charge to be relevant.

It is never productive to call people gutter sluts and stupid cows. That's the reason why no one is listening to the OP. Insulting people is counterproductive, as this scenario clearly proves. Nobody wants to listen to someone that horribly insults them. If you sound like a complete jack ass, people aren't going to feel inclined to listen to you. People also don't like it when you randomly interrupt their conversations to put in your opinion.

And there are obvious reasons as to why you shouldn't try to have a heated debate with someone inside Denny's at 4 in the morning. The OP was clearly being annoyed by the loud and obnoxious conversation. So what did he do? He made the conversation even more loud and obnoxious. Everyone else in the restaurant was probably annoyed by the initial conversation, but this only made it worse. The OP should try thinking about other people and maybe why they don't want to hear people screaming at each other at 4 in the morning.

In short, everything the OP did only made him look like a fool. Shouting the loudest does not make you the smartest.

I've seen Denny's at 4 in the morning, it's not exactly Penn Station)

In short, everything the OP did only made him look like a fool. Shouting the loudest does not make you the smartest. (But it does make a point, whether it's the right one or the right way to go about it or not)

Its sad that noone got the point. It's so sad knowing that people would forsake brains for courtesy. So, I should have asked politely? That works how often? Lets go with the reasonable poll of 25%. Thats 1 in every 4 people which is fair. Now, this particular moron was screaming, at the top of her lungs, Obama's name. For 3 minutes. My friends clocked it. And if you'd bother reading, I asked her if she knew any of the mans policies or stands. She had nothing. Thats why I continued. Sometimes people only shut up long enough for knowledge to sink in if someone will take the stand. And about me beating the guys ass; he swung first, but I always swing last. So the last thing is, when did respecting everybody's own personal shell take over the need to stand against what is wrong or stupid? And you needn't bother. "It's easier to delude oneself into thinking that your thoughts are right for the rest of the world, than admitting fault." Did I go to far? Noone died, so no. Hopefully that party will do some research in the subject and be better prepaired next time someone like me comes along.

it's not the point of whether calmly asking someone to be quiet would have worked, it's whether it would get you into a court room battling against a rigged justice system for your freedom.

being calm and polite in situations is a pretty good way of saying, "I don't HATE you, but i don't agree with your current statement/actions/position." and is a good way to avoid fights and or prison sentences, this isn't the middle ages man, shouting, hitting things and childish name calling are reserved for sporting events, children, and talk shows nowadays.
