This is an inauguration...not a superbowl.

Some people will seize on any excuse for pomp and circumstance. The only part of it that *really* annoys me is that they're using MY tax money for it. If they want to throw a big flashy party, they could at least have the decency to pay for it out of their own damn pockets.
Your money has been used for much, much worse things. Take abstinance based educational funding in the southern states. Funny how those states now have the highest teen pregnancy rates in the US.

Billions upon billions on the Iraq war alone. You should be annoyed at the 43rd President and all of his failures when it came to tax payer money.

And when you break down the cost to the US tax payers, it's roughly between $.75-$1.50
I think his anger with the subject comes more from this truly not helping anything. Sure the abstinance sex ed backfired, but it was at least trying to do something. This is just a party.

That being said, most inagurations are like this. It's simply the fact that it is Obama accepting the presidency that makes it a much large event for the media.
I understand their POV, but my point is that we've spent much more in the past 8 years on things that have helped absolutely no one, so the complaint is kind of moot at this point.

How does everyone here in the U.S. of A. feel about the inauguration festivities going on for the whole day? I don't recall any other president's inauguration going on for this long. Isn't it a bit ridiculous or am I just being a stick in the mud? I'm talking about the fanfare as well.

I pose this question to people living in the US, because I'm unsure of the coverage elsewhere in the world. It is still going on and it seems to be continuing well into the night.
you should realize by now that we Americans, who are mostly riddled with ADD, won't pay attention to anything that isn't treated like American Idol. blame the liberals, because they're happier than a pig in shit, and they want to milk this moment until it's shriveled dry.

It would make sense that this would feel like a superbowl considering that it's the most expensive inauguration in American history. And I didn't really find anything special about it, except that it allowed me to say, "Comrades, welcome to United Soviet America."
Thats pretty much what we should start calling ourselves with Obama appointing so many comunists to important offices.
And what is wrong with socialism/communism?
O O O O I wanna answer this but I gotta work, crap.....

Anyone remember the benediction? When the guy said "When the red man can get ahead man", I was burying my face in my hands.

I thought the rest of the inauguration went pretty well, but there were three slip ups.

First, Obama forgetting the words to the oath.
Second, the rhymes in the benediction.
Third, Teddy Kennedy collapsed at the lunch with Congress.

Well you guys were just freed from eight years of tyranny. Frankly I don't know why you all aren't happier about the idea.
This sums up my feelings.

What? I think there shouldn't even be an inauguration ceremony (Just the oaths, but not a giant celebration for it) because it's really just a waste of money, but then again, the war has been a waste of money too.

I'll agree it's a moot complaint, but not because we've spent much more in the past 8 years on bad things. In fact, that idiotic spending would be a reason not to spend more (digging a hole anyone). It's a moot complaint because every inaguration is like this and always costs plenty. It just has more publicity this year.

I'm not quite sure.

I just find it funny that the real Lee Harvey Oswald was allegedly a communist.

I guess you could say let them have their day, but...enough is enough. The man gave a great speech, sure, but honestly this is just dragging. There is nothing more to say. Its like the damn airplane that went down in the Hudson River over here in New York. That took up the news for the next 4 days. This will no doubt be on the news for the coming week.
Not to mention 9/11.

I was more pissed off that they cancelled every single show (besides the news, which showed it again) to constantly replay a plane crashing into a building for 3 bloody weeks! Okay, 3000 people died, but that's what Documentaries are for.

I find this quote kind of insulting. "you guise" insinuates that you are not American, so what right do you have to comment on our political situation.

I agree with the OP, give Obama a week and he will turn out to be just like every other politician and their dog.

Besides his speech was filled with so much rhetoric I thought he was channeling Ted Kennedy sans brain surgery.

Actually, her anger comes from being an Objectivist who thinks there's almost no legitimate reason to spend tax money. She's just telling a half-truth by not making that clear.
Well, that is one way to look at it I suppose. I would rather have Megan chime in before passing that judgement though.

160 million dollars...as opposed to Bush's 24million and Clinton's 33 million dollars. Oh well, no skin off our backs right? -_-
You have to remember: after Bush's presidency, 160 million us dollars only buys what 24 million used to before Bush got done with the country.
Actually, the inflation during Bush's presidency was less than during the Clinton presidency, but I understand if you are one of those biased idiots who thinks attempted humor is better than actual facts. You must live in one of those 57 states Obama visited on his campaign trail. Good luck with that.

Bullshit. From [a href="http://inflationdata.com/inflation/Inflation_Rate/HistoricalInflation.aspx?dsInflation_currentPage=1"]this site[/a], I calculated that the average rate of inflation under the Bush administration was 2.84% and the average rate of inflation under the Clinton administration was 2.60%. What else you got?
