I don't think it was talking about dvd's, I think it's talking about other counterfeit stuff. Like handbags, and watches, and shoes, and all that stuff that I don't care about. If it was talking about dvd's, then yeah it's pretty fucking retarded
I think I peed a little laughing at this.Zachary Amaranth said:Are you kidding? Do you know how many third world children it takes to sew a counterfit DVD?Use_Imagination_here said:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvQFnSnhg7U
This is a new ad against piracy made with us tax dollars.
It's fucking hilarious and sad at the same time, you should watch it.
YOU MONSTERS!!!!
Piracy: It'll give you herpes!AngloDoom said:I think I peed a little laughing at this.
OT:
If adults want to pirate, they usually don't care enough about said consequences enough to stop doing it. If you're marketing to children, you just say something outlandish like "Piracy makes you ugly" and it'll go down smoothly.
These lame advertisements hurt the cause more than anything.
yeah, digital piracy too... good point.aegix drakan said:.....Umm.....What? Seriously?
...Also, who the hell BUYS pirated/fake/copied DVDs and stuff anymore? Doesn't everyone who pirates stuff just do so via downloading? Which...you know...CAN'T fund crime because it doesn't involve money?
Seriously, the industry has no freakin clue...
You want a good ad campaign against pirating? Then make THIS an ad:
That would be a LOT more effective, IMO.My ad idea said:Random guy near furnace: Piracy of entertainment goods is on the rise. You probably don't care. Well, you should, and here's why. This means less people are buying those products, which means the guys making it are making less money that they can spend on making MORE of it.
If this keeps up, they may eventually not be ABLE to make more of those products you like. *holds up a DVD of batman* That next batman movie? *throws into furnace* Not gonna happen. That shiny new FPS you're looking forward to? *throws in furnace* Cancelled. That bizarre and risky game that's yet to be announced, the one that will redefine gaming forever and be the most awesome game in history? *throws it in* Never gets made. So please remember, when you pirate stuff, you hurt the industry that you love. Just remember that.
Very fair treatment of the issue. The problem, as I see it, is that too many people on this site automatically assume this is targeted specifically at downloading pirated software. In that sense, yes, some of these claims look a little... exaggerated. But the issue is bigger than that one particular example.Therumancer said:Fantastic post
Actually, I stand corrected. That is really bad and it is on the level of those things. I forgot that bootleg DVDs are still a "business" in this day and age. Yeah, it isn't talking about piracy, or not just talking about piracy, there is still a counterfeit movie trade out there and like other illegal products it would attract the same kind of problems.Therumancer said:Snip
