This is how stupid the world is becoming

A guy was questioned by police because he took a picture of his daughter.

A man who took an adorable picture of his toddler in a Scottish shopping centre was questioned by police after the photo apparently fell foul of anti-terrorism laws.

Then the police did the usual attempt to bully an innocent person into taking an action the police cannot make someone do.

Police were then called to the scene and threatened to confiscate his phone allegedly citing the Terrorism Act when Mr White ? a local mental health worker - refused to delete the photos he had posted on Facebook moments before.

However, under the Terrorism Act officers do not have the power to delete digital images or destroy film at any point during a search unless a court order has been granted.

How much money did this waste in police time? How much real crime were those officers not stopping while threatening some innocent guy with something the police can't do?

It's becoming really stupid in the UK at least with the misuse of the anti-terrorism act. It's happening all the time and 99.9% of the time it has nothing to do with terrorism.

So escapists you seen/heard or being the victim of these police tactics? Have you any other examples of the misuse of terrorism laws brought in as knee-jerk to 9/11 and so poorly written?

Well, there's the usual stuff you hear about with security at airports sexually harassing people and nicking stuff.

What really annoys me, though, is that there's loads of stuff that should fall under the terrorism category, but won't, for political reasons. I don't know if I'd count intimidating people at abortion clinics, mosques, synagogues and the like unless there is actual violence involved, but when people are deliberately targeted and killed, it should.

But the world needs to know what percentage of the Escapist forumgoers have viewed violent pornography!

I've read a few local stories about "mysterious packages" being checked out by the bomb squad that wound up being completely pedestrian things. One of them was a suitcase that was simply being thrown away, in a garbage pail.

Of course, this is also reinforced by the successful foiling of a backpack bomb at a Martin Luther King Day march a while back.

Ahhh another cynical thread. As if we didn't have a million of those. Anyway I think this video is relevant. Anyway, yeah it's pretty stupid, but people in this world are stupid. All we can do is nod our heads and give up on life.
