"This is the hardest game ever"

There's a time in every gamer's life when he looks down at his controller, then back up at the screen and thinks "Damn... This is a really hard game." Now, I'm not talking about broken games or games that you get bored with because you can't win. I'm talking about good games that you have fun with; so much so that you don't even realise your ass is getting kicked.

I'll start off with Company of Heroes.

Oh, and raping the chip traders is helpful. In fact its probly the only way i'll ever beat it.

Metroid Prime 2 was pretty tough at parts. Mostly because the air killed you. Yes. That was annoying.

Also hilariously difficult from that game? The Spider Ball Guardian. The Spider Ball Guardian.

You wimp. Modern Warfare 2 is nothing compared to the pain I endured on Company of Heroes just now.

I can think of ROMHacks that would give any real game a run for its money.
Things that make I Wanna Be the Guy (which I've beaten. It's not really that bad. You just need to be persistent) and Battletoads look simple in comparison.

However, I will give my usual answer for this topic: Nethack/Slash 'Em
Yes, I am aware that there are players out there who can Ascend with 95% success rate; these people are rare. If there ever was a game that kicked my ass, and kicked it consistently, it's Nethack (or Slash 'Em, which is essentially Nethack but with more stuff).
And I love it.

Yes! And when the base got invaded, and I was too weak so I'm going "huh? Why is this-" "OH, IT'S BECAUSE I FAILED EVERY SINGLE MISSION!"

It's all good now though, except for the final boss T.T

First game that knocked me off the Hardest Difficulty kick... Serious Sam. The first secret level is what sealed the deal. I was moving between a series of raised platforms at an Oasis. At each platform, the rope ladder fell down and I was attacked by hordes of flying enemies and hordes of running enemies... and rocket shooting baddies on other platforms.

Mind you, that wasn't the actual hardest difficulty. There was a Co-Op difficulty and also the Mental difficulty, which made all the enemies invisible.

These days, I'm barely scratching by on Normal on the recent 360 port. Yup, Serious Sam is Nintendo Hard.

Ninja Gaiden 1+2. If I play above easy I'll break something, but they're still fun. And I HAD fun with prototype, I even endured getting smacked around by cheap shots 90% of the time until the first final boss (I'm guessing there's another one, I'm not about to find out), but when I was spending 10 minutes trying not to get knocked over and heal, and 30 sec attacking the boss, I said "F this" and just quit.

any of the metal slug games on the harder difficulties. shots from every direction, you never know where its coming from.
