We've just confirmed reports that out there in that internets, there's a epidemic known as a "meme". One of these "memes" is an evil pedophile bear that somehow draws actual pedophiles to its location. And these pedophiles can find their way into schools, into classrooms, and into your homes!

In other breaking news. We're just now getting word that many sources of journalism tend to over react to things that they don't understand. Possibly to cater to the suburban soccer moms that make up the majority of their audience.
I'm going to do the obvious here and give the news station the benefit of the doubt. I'm not exactly plugged into the pedo scene but it is easy to imagine those sick people grabbing onto and using pedobear as a symbol. I'm sure they have their own little secret forums and the like. Not everyone on the internet is benign and I find it plausible that pedophiles could be using pedobear as a means of overt identification while hiding under the cloak of dark humor.Eri said:

This is ridiculous, however you have to also pay attention to the specific comments being made. The comments aren't so much that it's a "bat symbol" for pedos, but that it's being used as a method of hiding actual pedophille behavior behind a mask of dark humor and satire. The idea being that if someone dons a Pedobear outfit and tries to lure children and gets caught he can then use the joke as a form of deniability claiming he was doing it ironically "because nobody would take it seriously 'cause it's Pedobear". The idea that the joke became a dodge, and you could use the symbol on websites providing/selling Child Porn or whatever.
Now, the reason why this is simply them being alarmist rabble rousers, is that they don't mention even one actual case of someone doing this and being convicted, or even being taken into custody and held on suspician. Basically there is nothing there to reinforce what is being said.
I think it's a matter of a few people getting upset by the joke/dark humor and trying to shut it down by being alarmist. I think it's because Pedobear started as a sort of underground thing but is bordering on mainstream recognition, and it is honestly kind of a sick joke, and exactly the kind of thing that doesn't belong in the mainstream, albiet it was never intended to be there anyway.
