Minnesota Family Council president Tom Prichard blogged that Justin's suicide could only be blamed upon one thing: his gayness. "Youth who embrace homosexuality are at greater risk [of suicide], because they've embraced an unhealthy sexual identity and lifestyle," Prichard wrote.
This guy's head.

On a platter.

NOW.

Asked on a radio program whether the anti-gay agenda of her ilk bore any responsibility for the bullying and suicides, Barb Anderson, co-author of the original "No Homo Promo," held fast to her principles, blaming pro-gay groups for the tragedies. She explained that such "child corruption" agencies allow "quote-unquote gay kids" to wrongly feel legitimized. "And then these kids are locked into a lifestyle with their choices limited, and many times this can be disastrous to them as they get into the behavior which leads to disease and death," Anderson said. She added that if LGBT kids weren't encouraged to come out of the closet in the first place, they wouldn't be in a position to be bullied.
Hers too.

And yes, I am going to say I would've done something. These are students being bullied literally to death. The reason for the bullying is fucking irrelevant.

Woo hoo, way to go fellow Christians! Way to love your neighbour..... Oh wait.....
You know, I'm a conservative Christian, and while I disagree with the homosexual life style, I don't hate gays, (unless they have done something to outright wrong me). I would never advocate anything like this. This really makes me sad. Just remember not all Christians are like this. Driving someone to kill themselves through bullying is never right. NEVER.

And as for that measure being passed, what the heck? What happened to freedom of speech? Even a school shouldn't do something like this. Shameful.

I am planning to become a teacher, and I feel very strongly that it is an educator's first responsibility to ensure that all their students have a safe environment in which to learn. The actions of the school district disgust me more than I can fully express in polite company.

Hey here's a thought. You think that blaming suicide on middle school bullying will give kids the idea that it's perfectly reasonable to commit suicide over middle school anti-gay bullying?

There's a quote from Transmetropolitan that while not relevant to the particular issues, sums up my routine disappoint with modern society.

The Twentieth century gave the human race it's score card. Kardashev and Dyson made concrete the notion of type one, type two and type three civilizations.

A type one civilization has mastered its planet, inside out, is utilizing the world's entire energy potential and has wiped away all the internal struggles of its race.

A type two civilization has energy needs so massive that it can only be met by physically harnessing the sun.

In the type three scenario, the civilization has gone galactic, extracting energy on an interstellar basis.

We can make magic with engines smaller than a virus, and yet, just today, twenty-four people in this city alone will die from having walked into the wrong district or community. We are still not even a type one civilization. This remains a zero society.
To have come so far, but still have people die over something like sexuality makes me sad.

I'm sad to say I'm not all that surprised. I'm also sad because this is pretty much the worst thing I've read in a while. :(

so people werent gay back then?

homosexual acts for pleasure would imply they are gay..unless people did them in the past for no reaosn whats so ever
If you are using that definition, they would be, but not many people seem to define homosexuality as that.

you mean people taking on the entire concept of "being gay" as an identity?

Or being imposed, yeah, but more or less about how a person chooses to identify. Apparently this wasn't much of an issue in regards to what we'd call sexuality until recently.

What is don't even I?

I don't even have much to say about this, lest I start slinging obscenities around like nobody's business. This is just...terrible. I can only hope that justice ends up getting served. This is just unacceptable! What the HELL is wrong with people? It makes me sick to my stomach.

Civil rights is a constant struggle. Something tells me that will never change.
Argh, yes.

Annoys me no end when people say that because we've got laws against X nowdays, the problem has completely gone away, and everyone should pretend it never existed.

I read this earlier today and cried my eyes out. It makes feel like a coward for hiding my sexuality my whole life while other braver people lived through hell and died.

This doesn't make me fear our future. It makes me fear our present. In small-town South Carolina I don't see things like this. I can't even imagine the justification behind stuff like this.

Almost makes me want to start burning churches, just the evangelical ones though.
Seriously though, this is absolute insanity. Regardless of how you feel about homosexuality how can you just ignore someone's suffering???

Am I incredibly jaded or are the rest of you just ignorant to the most parts of the United States?

It's the mid-west. Conservative part of the country. I'm not shocked in the least that this is the climate there, or that kids kill themselves over it. Then again, we have it all plastered over the news these days glorifying it I'm not surprise it will keep happening.

That said, I do fear these situations and the moral panic they cause will eventually do serious harm to our individual free speech and one day it'll be a crime to hate anyone, even (as an extreme example) Hitler.

What's bound to happen as a result of this is there'll be an incident of some gay/lesbian students pulling guns out & flatlining much of their class because of the situation. It's the Mid-West, and one thing they seem to have is a good supply of firearms, so don't be surprised if it happens.

I am in tears. And angry. And ashamed of these deluded people who got their skewed beliefs from the same religion that has helped teach me to love my fellow man.

Seriously, those people can go fuck themselves.
