Are the police doing anything about this? I'd think such a detailed death threat would warrant law enforcement's involvement in this, regardless of the person's mental condition or age.

in my book no matter what mental disease or disability someone has they shouldnt be able to threaten someone and not be punished. They are of sound enough mind by the looks of it to send the teacher the threat with details of what will be done to the body.

If it was just a sudden outburst in class then maybe that would be as bad but from the looks of it there was a bit of planning involved, like writing the note and getting it to the teacher.

shouldnt he be expelled and sent to a school/hospital that is better suited to helping some one with the aspergers and i guess anger issues?

and i would think the school would be seen in a negative light if a teacher is killed or even hurt after recieving warnings and not doing anything about the student

While I may not agree with the actions of the students OR the administrators you have to realize the fact they did take some form of action will appear favorable toward the district. Yes it is true that action WOULD have to go beyond the short extension of the suspension to be considered fair to the teacher. But andy further action will also be considered unfair toward the student. Someone said perhaps the parents should make the move to transfer him voluntarily but really that could harm him as much as could help her. The police should have been brought in from the BEGINNING and perhaps there was talk about it but do you really think the SCHOOL wants them involved if it really is a matter of PR?

I'm willing to help. Where do I go to complain?

I have Asperger's Syndrome! And I say they should put this kid away for a long time.
With a name like John F. Kennedy, you'd think they'd be more responsive to death threats!
Made me chuckle

Tell the district to stop being so freakin' stupid, having Ass-burgers is no reason for being an Ass-hole.

Get the kid expelled or transferred, there's no reason he shouldn't be already. If not just because he threatened a teacher, but because he could pose a threat to other students.
They'd really sacrifice the safety of their students and staff to avoid "bad PR"?

Show me a petition and I'll sign it!
I've seen plenty of disrespectful students walk all over good teachers and get away with it, it gets tiring really quickly.

You've got my support.
The teacher needs to lawyer up. And as an aspie myself, that isnt any excuse for that the child did. He needs a mental health evaluation and possible time in a mental ward committed against his will he is a danger to others

So you think things like bomb and death threats aren't serious? This guy laid out his plans. A full grown adult felt so threatened that they will not come to work.

Witnesses are used in our legal system: hard fact is not required. Regardless, no one seems to be disputing what the kid did.

Good luck, I hope the student in question receives his just punishment.
Serious? No I don't actually.

I'd be more concerned if someone saw this kids notebook and in it was some writing about him actually wanting to bring harm to someone. Do you forget that this is a kid we're talking about? Let alone a kid with mental health problems?

I can't tell you how many times someones yelled at me that they wish I were dead. Or had someone back in high-school threaten me or even someone else. You've threatened someone before. I know you have. I have. We all do it at some point. Without any serious intent or meaning.

If he were seriously deranged or troubled, why wasn't there a record of this sort of behavior? What had the teacher done to provoke the hostility? And why is it that all this crap is made over threats. (Seriously look up how many bomb threats are made on schools yearly.) True things to worry about and to be more weary of is when you notice or see behavior that could lead to a tragedy. Not when some kid with Asperger's gets upset with a teacher and threatens her.

I don't like to argue for or against this sort of thing period. I stand by what I believe of threats, most of the time, they're meaningless fits of anger.

And seriously how can you argue it was wrong or right when we lack the following:

How old was this kid,
What events led to the teacher being threatened,
How quickly the school suspended the kid,
and did he have any record of anger or other such outbursts.

As it stands,

The kid made a threat where others heard. Kid was suspended for 5 days by the school.

I want to know how far this teacher went to get this kid out of her class. Or how far she went to maybe get someone to fill in for that specific class with that specific student.

But even still we don't know the full details on the type of school. So really, what is being asked of the general public? To commit to a 'movement' with half of the facts, and little by way of counter-arguments?

Pshaw.

Two words, PSYCHIATRIC HELP!!! This person has a mental disorder, he threatened another productive member of society, we have a field of medical professionals who specifically do this type of work. Make the district pay for some Psychaitric help, psycological help, anything that would ease this person's alledged wanting to kill someone.

So after reading your post and the one my friend did saying it was on the news today, I sent a letter to the Superintendant.

Hopes this helps:

I saw on the channel seven news today that a teacher at JFK high school not only received a death threat by a student, but was also told how this student would do it and that they would blow the school up afterwards. I was wondering why this student was only given a 5 day suspension? At any school district such a student would be expelled with no questions asked, especially with the threat that other students and teachers would be harmed as well. This type of threat would have been taken very seriously especially considering the threats that were made with Columbine and completely ignored and look at the outcome of that. This student obviously has problems that need to be thoroughly adressed and is obviously not. My brother is only 3 years away from being in high school and he is in the Corona Norco Unified School District and hearing about this type of thing does not make me feel one bit safe about sending him off to school. Being a daughter of a retired respected principal of 30 years and a retired teacher of 17 years, I would think that the principal would be taking this threat very seriously. So my question is, why isn't it? It's an obvious threat not only against a teacher, but other faculty members and the student body as well. So why was this student only put on a 5 day suspension?

are you completely DEAF?!

Do you not remember columbine?! People completely IGNORED their threats and their behavior and look what happened. Children lost their lives, parents lost their children, teachers were killed. How can you sit there and be so non chalant about it. He told the teacher exactly how he was going to do it, how can you not take that seriously? It would be different if it was just a simple "Oh I could just kill her" but this was a blatant out right plan. So please tell me how are students and parents and faculty members supposed to take this lightly? I can't see how they are just twiddling their thumbs saying "oh well" with no guilt on their hearts.

I don't care if you have a mental disease, If you threaten a teacher you deserve to be expelled.

"This student not only stated an intent to kill, but he also described how he'd do it, what he'd do with her body, and said he'd blow up the school afterwards."

Can we see the actual threat in quote? If not, this could just be the story of a bully trashing someone's reputation.

At a school nearby of mine the teachers how to walk through to halways with guards. Else they risk getting stabbed.

Also when they let one of their students fail some parents will come to pay their teacher a "visit".

HI ERIC!

I thought I should let the forum know I go to this school to but Eric, where did he say he would blow up the school. You guys, this kid does have issues but the school contracted a specialist that helps this kid around in each of his classes. No incident has occurred after this, the kid in question was moved from the teachers class and security was only stepped up in response to a walkout this Team Ellis group did. Now, this teacher has been gone for over 50 days. I hope you know she can comeback on her own freewill. Now, this kid as I stated before does have his issues, yet he is a good kid, very intelligent in history and science I might add. He's been over to my house, we played Modern Warfare 2 and Mario Kart, we watched football, played poker, very awesome day. What people don't understand is what its like to have aspergers syndrome, I have it, I dare anyone to walk a day in my shoes and see how it feels, I'm very socially awkward, ask OP. Anyway, I thought I should add my side of the story before you cast your decision whether this kid is good or bad. I feel like he was thrown under the bus, for god sakes the girl that tipped off the administration about the walkout has been threatened, pushed and slammed against lockers during passing period and has been rumors going around people are planning to key her car. But whatever, you all enjoy the weekend. Thanks for reading.

In light of that, it looks like they're just bullying the kid and calling him insane. Nice job, trolls.

Kudos to you, Matthew, for being a real journalist.

Petition? You have my 'net name on it! I suppourt good man!
Aspergers is not a severe mental illness. Two of my best friends have it and they operate perfectly normally.

Autism itself is not that severe of a mental disorder, certainly not a violent one. Aspergers is the mildest form of Autism.

From that, all are free to draw their conclusions on what sort of "mental illness" this kid really has.

Anyone who threatens a teacher with death should be expelled, and possibly charged with something.

The way I see it, it is a failure of justice that your friend doesn't serve any time. As stated above, two of my best friends have Aspergers, and they somehow manage to not make death threats. Maybe the person involved should learn a little bit of self control.
