Hurt Locker winning best picture. I'm not really pro-Avatar, but I just thought that Hurt Locker wasn't as good as half of the movies nominated (in fact, I didn't think it was good enough to warrant a nomination). Inglorious Bastards, District 9, Up, or Avatar were all better. But I knew going in that it was going to win, since the Oscars are rarely given out on merit anyway.

And the whole Twilight thing was, perhaps ironically, terrifying.

aw. I can understand all the Oscar hate going around, but being a lover of movies, particularly of the kind the Academy rewards (yes, I know it's political), I always enjoy seeing all the drama and schticks they pull off. Sure, you can debate all day about which movies were better, but that's always gonna be subjective, so I just try and enjoy the show. Although it is boring if you require "Lost"-sized entertainment. If it annoys you, don't watch it. *backs into movie-loving corner* ok I'm done now...

Definitely that District 9 got NOTHING. It should have been a serious contender for Best Film, but there are other things it could have gotten too. I mean, do you have any idea how hard it is to act as terrified and desperate as Wikus was throughout that film? That guy did a great job!

One of the greatest sci-fi movies in years, and it gets nothing. Screw the Oscars. Screw them and all their snobby, stuck-up judges.

No Watchmen. Oh and the Sky Movies commentators taking the piss out of Neil Patrick Harris.
Yeah they didn't need to do that! He pretty much does it to himself with everything he's in!

I'd say Up winning best animated feature, and Ponyo not even getting nominated.
They both had nothing on The Secret of Kells and its superb animation. I can guarantee almost nobody else on this site even heard of that movie before the Oscars.
Crazy Heart or District 9 should have won for best movies. Seriously, fuck both Avatar AND The Hurt Locker. Avatar was fun but not Oscar-worthy, and Hurt Locker bored the hell out of me.

The Blind Side was nominated for best picture, Watchmen wasn't.

As a matter of fact, Watchmen wasn't nominated for anything. Fuck that.

yeah the oscars kind of makes everyone angry. we're all pissed off about something....but really, the hurt locker? that's just ridiculous, the movie was mediocre at best. the only thing they nailed was Christoph Waltz getting the best supporting actor.

That pretty much one of the few Sci Fi movies I like didn't win a damn thing (District 9), that Avatar won so much when most of it is CGI, Sandra Bullock winning best actress, Brad Pitt not being nominated for best actor I loved Inglorious Bastards, Ponyo wasn't nominated (Miyazaki's a fucking genus) and the Twilight was even mentioned there and called a horror. That's like calling No More Heroes a kids game it's just not right. God if my step dad voted for the Oscars still I'd fill it out for him. I'd just go home to do that. XD Oh yes and that Michal Fucking Jackson was honored when he was already at the fucking Grammy's when Farrah Fawcett wasn't even mentioned.

That fat white ***** stealing the mic from the Black dude when he was trying to give an acceptance speech for the documentary film.
She was apparently the film's other producer. IIRC, she left because of creative differences, but she's still listed as a producer, so she actually had a right to be up there.

On topic: That Sandra Bullock won for Best Actress. Gabourey Sidibe deserved that win! On the other hand, Bullock clearly recognized that she didn't deserve the award, so there's that.

hate to say it but... Inglorious didnt deserve the awards it got.
Yes, I'm one of those guys who says that there was too much intrigue, and am probobly gonna get yelled at or flamed by it but in the end Im right! Don't call a movie Inglorious Bastards when about 40% of it is the only amount of time where they are shown. Dont say Bastards is gonna be an action flick when its more about espionage. just dont.
As for all the other stuff... your right!
I know you already addressed your mistake about the awards Inglorious got, but I want to address the rest of your point.

I don't know, I liked the fact that it didn't end up being quite the revenge/action flick that was promised. I came in expecting exactly that and ended up being pleasantly surprised with the whole thing, particularly the whole Shoshanna plotline that was never even shown for a moment in the hype.

Anyway, I was most disappointed by two things: District 9 (my choice for Best Picture) not getting any recognition at all (in a year without Avatar, it would have at least gotten technical awards, but no, not even that)and Sandra Bullock winning Best Actress.

I was alright with it, nothing that bothered me enough to complain. (except Twilight being called horror)
But to those who thought Ponyo should have been nominated, I really don't think it did deserve it, I mean which movie would you replace it with. I think the fact that Miyuzaki not being guarantied nomination just shows how good of a year it was for animated movies. Ponyo shouldn't be nominated just because of Miyazaki's legacy, thats unfair.

Oh this year's oscar... what problems do I have with thee?

Well, first off that really wierd and pointless intro song thing.

The first good hosts in YEARS were given so little to do and so few jokes to work with.

That even stranger ball room/interprative dance thing set to the nominated Best Scores. Not only was it stupid beyound reason, it made no sense in the slightest. The only thing ever like that was that holographic circus scene from Star Wars Holiday Special.

How all but one of the best Actor/Actress "introducers" were so robotic. They said the same, "you inspired me, your the best," crap that made me think they are part of the Borg or something. Only Tim Robbins put some heart into his introduction for Morgan Freeman. The most painful was Oprah's "intro." Besides the Color Purple, what films has that woman been in? The only reason she was there because she paid for Precoius.

The whole "horror" segment was random and pointless. Unless they did it for all the genre's of film, why just do that one? And why are you considering Twilight horror? I mean, it scared the crap out of me, but for all the wrong reasons.

This award ceremony really felt very rushed in the last hour or so. I could tell the actor and actress video was the "short" one. You could see that the producer was making the award recievers hurry up. And the fact they had Tom Hanks walk on stage and say, "the Hurt Locker won" really made me really angry.

Sandra Bullock... the award she recieved Saturday speaks for it self.

Finally, the Hurt Locker winning the big one. The only reason it won because it protrayed american troops as reckless cowboys and it made a "David vs. Goliath" situation between it and Avatar. However, the films are so similar, and the fact that Kathryn Bigelow helped Cameran edit Avatar, it is more "David vs. Bill Gates." All but the Blind Side and Precious deserved the best picture win then Avatar and Hurt Locker. I was rooting for Up the most, but I would of been happy with the others.

The Oscars are a broken system for rewarding good films. It causes people to go out and make "Oscar films" which are blatant attempts to please judges etc. I think the entire idea ruins the industry. Plus it made Jim Carrey do stuff OTHER than zaney comedy... why? (Ace Ventura was the peak of movie excellence! Hilarity, shemales and a mystery. What more do you want?)
