I used to watch this show as a kid! I thought it was a fun show about TRAINS!! At the church I volounteer at, we have toys of Thomas and his friends, which the kids often play with, often accompanied by the sounds of laughter and smiles.

But are the kids being manipulated into a world of tyranny, sexism and fear?!

I strongly disagree, but what do you think?

I think the article has it spot on, your memories are merely clouded by time. Anyone remember what happened in this episode?

Double Yoo Tee Eef, Mate?

No, really, what is this? Only way of getting so much unfortunate implications in Thomas the Tank Engine is to pull them out of your own arse.

I think alot of socialogy and pyschology students try to justify their wasted education by 'analysing' these things too much.

EDIT:

Thank you for ruining what precious few happy childhood memories I once had with that image.

OT: Some people just read into stuff too deeply.

i used to watch that show all the time when i was kid now they mention it alot of those things are true i would never have imagined.

i also think its sad someone devoted time to pick apart a childrens show and point out the secret msgs hidden in the show.

...What did I just read? Seriously, it's a kids program, I used to watch it when I was little and I'm pretty sure it had little to no effect on me...

I'll admit his face can be a little scary at times. But tyranny and sexism?

Nice to see our money well spent on 'research.'

Enlighten me.

This is a kid's show right?

So who gives a flying fuck..?
Well, as I stated before I used to watch it as a kid and all I found from it was a fun show about trains.

True, in the overall scope of things it may seem small and insignificant but if you look at any show, you can find stupid little things.

Kids enjoy it and obviously aren't seeing these underlying tones so why stir something up that doesn't mean anything?

hehehe, that was funny! seriously, look for it in anything and you will find it! I think postman pat was all about teaching children to be spies, as he knew everything and if anything changed he would investigate. also it taught them to break into houses. see? i can do that too! can I be a psychological analyst?

In other news, Psychologist realises she should probably stop watching kids shows and actually treat some of her patients.

But seriously, I watched that all the time as a kid, and never saw it as anything more than a fun show about trains.

It's a show about trains. Of course it's going to be fucking structured. They're trains. They get about on rails. They stick to timetables and each has it's own use. There is a hierarchy.

Christ, woman..

I'm more worried about their cadaverous faces.

Sometimes I really, really hate liberals.

Edit: That's what they call themselves, anyhow.
This looks far more what I believe Americans term Conservative? It's basically "Thomas the Tank Engine = Communism" and a list of reasons why that's bad.

For what it's worth, Ring Raiders was all about Nationalism, The Telitubbies involve four transsexuals living in an underground commune with a phallic robot "hoover" and Rainbow? Damn... Don't get me started on Rainbow...
