I freaking loved them as a kid.
I remember I had a huge train table somewhere for all of my Thomas/train toys.
Never managed to get into the actual model train sets, though. They had no amusing cartoon faces, and you couldn't create tracks that ran throughout the tiny house you grew up in as easily.
I even had the Chinese dragon engine.

I don't remember it very well, but my mom tells me I was fucking in love with that show. Apparently fanboyism is in my blood.

I was totally in love with TTTE. I had so many of the toys, and I watched the show all any time I could. I was obsessed with trains in general.

My nephew loves the show to the point of annoyance. He has spoiled anything train related for me. So as far as i could care that show can die in a fire. But i have ot endure it playing loudly when im trying to lay down and read a good boo.

This was my childhood. I had all the wooden and metal trains, posters, bedcovers, everything. My grandmother made me an awesome Thomas the Tank Engine cake for my 4th or 5th birthday. I even had a giant book containing all the original stories. I'd still have it today, if I hadn't read it so much it fell apart.

I am now going to see how many of the trains and other characters I can name of the top of my head
Thomas
Percy
James
Gordan
Henry
Edward
Annie and Clarabel
Donald
Douglas
Diesel
Duck
Harold (Helicopter)
Bertie (Bus)
Terrance (Tractor I think)
Toby
Oliver
Mavis

I was crazy for this as a kid. And the fact that during my time George Carlin served as the conductor only made it a thousand times more epic.

I love that show! There's always something about that openning song and it being live action (well animating the models or stock motion or whatever you describe the animation) show so appealing to me.
Wow now I feel shame for not mentioning it at all when it come to those favourite cartoon or nostalgia topics.

Early in my childhood I loved it... my first, and only, train set was a Thomas wind up set.

Then I went to school....

Hmm ... Thomas wasn't really something for me. I'm not sure why - maybe it wasn't broadcast in Australia until I was too old for it (I'm almsot 32). However, my son is absolutely bonkers about Thomas (he's 3). We have lots of the DVDs (in English and Japanese, but he seems to like the English more for some reason).

Oh god, nostalgia attack.
That show was the reason why I loved trains as a kid. The stories were great to listen to (especially with Ringo Starr narrating), and even at 17 I keep several boxes of Thomas tapes and toys somewhere in my closet. I particularly found the original Railway Series, from which the show was based on, unusually sophisticated and detailed.

Or Duncan, Rusty, Skarloey, Duke, Sir Handle, Trevor, the Flying Scotsman, Bill, Ben, Boco, Stephanie, Henrietta, Cranky the Crane, the lady with the giant green hat, the man with the bootlaces, and that cheeky faced truck who got smashed spectacularly by Oliver.

It was a nice childhood.
