Where a game feels like a full scale war/city/pinata garden. You know what I'm talking about, the moments on a game where you feel like you're actually a soldier or dictator(I know some of you fellow Escapists are soldiers and perhaps even dictators, and in that case, do you still feel those moments. Assuming you play War/Society RTS games.)and get really into the moment. Do you like the feeling? Or do you not?

I had one of those just today when I was playing MW2 (I've got to shut up about that game) domination on Terminal, I just felt like I was part of an actual army as I was gunning down enemies in what was probably the most intense match in an FPS game that I've had in years.

Do you even know what I'm talking about?

Anyways, discuss.

EDIT: I didn't mean for this thread to turn into a CoD thread (most of my gaming related threads do).

Playing the original killzone, helghast soldiers bearing down on my platoon I actually Shout out 'noooooo!' As my machine gunner got shot, and I'm a scarily subtle man, and that a lil' over the foodie ne. And when I fired back I actually started to scream back, making my arms do a gun-like impression.... Maybe I just love that game too much. God rest the credibility of killzone; killzone 2, I hate you

Grabbing a melee Weapon (mainly the machete) in L4D2 and running into the horde of zombies slice randomly into the flesh like Jason Voorhees

Flying a transport in Battlefield 2142.

I remember, when I used to play the game, a tank hit my transport square in the cockpit. It went down in flames, but I managed to get the whole crew out before it exploded.

Whenever there are large groups of enemies [preferably 9 or higher] and you've got to think fast to do this. Well, it's only intense in turn-based combat...now I want to play Final Fantasy...or FF IV...either one.
Similarly any level in an FPS where you really do have to kill hundreds to crawl out alive.
Like the two above throwing thousands of basic infantry at whatever enemy comes my way in an RTS...then zooming in to watch them die in a closer, more satisfying view.

That or looking at the score number in the corner when playing an arcade-style or just any side-scroller.

Bad Company 2 is full of those moments. I really wish there was a way to turn a bunch of HUD elements off in it. (Minimap, ammo counter, and possibly the crosshair. But without teamtags or that beloved spotting system I'm pretty much useless)

Bad Company 2, hiding behind a rock with an assault and medic as every type of explosive conceivable rained down all around us, just barely staying alive using the med-packs and picking off threats from a distance.

That's what I like about Dawn of war, just the epic scale of things, chargin down bloodthirsters and sending wave of infantry into the enemy screaming FOR THE EMPORER!

Every fucking teamwork moment in Teamfortress 2, which is nearly always.

I love being the medic that helped take down a sentry gun encampment, or that spy that stopped the cart from moving just before it was in its final push.

Sometimes good GTA IV Team Deathmatches online become really awesome - large teams squaring off in what seems like huge gang wars. Fun.

Good job OT, you just dislodged me from Lurking. Craphead....

Anyways, hello, been lurking for a bit and you got a nice community here, I like the gaming atmosphere without the trolling behavior of other forums.

My moment:
Playing Battlefield 2 mod project reality, some find it long and boring, but in my experience it really churns out a good number of those feelings of complete immersion. The tactics in that gameand the following of a good squad leader as he calmly calls orders in s hailstorm of bullets that put you under suppression. Mhmmm good times.
If I had to pick a good recent one wa when we we're surrounded by insurgents on a moutainside and had to get out of our humvee and walk it down a road, watching for IEDs and road mines. I felt so exposed escorting a huge vehicle down the road even with the 50. Cal watching my back.

There were quite the number of those moments in Fallout 3. I think the most epic moment of that game is when you first step outside of Vault 101, and the sun blinds you, as your eyes slowly get adjusted to see the wasteland ahead of you and the Washington Monument off in the distance. It's at that point that you know that shit is real, that you are now a wastelander, and you are entering a whole other world than the one you knew.

In Fire Emblem.
Where YOU the player was actually referred to as a character and helped with the story.
Still makes me feel like a Master Strategist.

The giant clusterfuck in ZOE2; Jehuty, the Vic Viper, and 20 Redshirt frames against probably close to 1000 enemies. It's a constant mess of you pretty much single-handedly destroying enemies and tagging downed friendlies for Vic Viper to [Heal plz].

Probably the best part is about halfway into the battle, where the radar (a box about 6cm square) shows a wave of enemies about 1/2cm thick and stretching across the entire box. The first time I did this I was like "fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck" but the second time I decided to godmod their arses by whipping out the Vector Cannon and traversing it across the entire screen when they were approaching. Wiped them all out in one shot. It was glorious.

This is my first lurker dislodging.. I feel special.

Anywho, I've heard only good things about BF2 Project Reality, I think I may try it.

Welcome to the Escapist.

OT: COD2. The scene where you have to storm Normandy always gives me the chills, especially when you have to watch that guy burn as he runs off the boat. *shudders*

Playing insurgency (the HL2 mod)

It's a super-realistic MW2.

I was lying with my crappy ww2 semi-auto hunting rifle on the side of a hill, in the sand, overlooking a road. (I was an insurgent btw)

I was there for ages (about 5mins - ins is a slow game), taking pot shots at stuff that I thought was moving down the road, then suddenly inbetween the cars, about 5 marine start to advance slowly.

I opened up on them, hitting two. Then one of them popped smoke. I blind-fired to the end of my clip, threw my only nade and reloaded. When the smoke cleared I saw I'd killed them all. (ins. doesnt tell you in the corner of the screen when you've killed someone, which causes alot of corpse shooting.)

I was like =D
