You think '99 was bad? I didn't get internet until 2007! before that my life was completely horrible and I was verging on suicide every other day. but now I'm happy c:

I remember I had a lot more time on my hands. I only got it couple of years ago, anyway and it's changed my entire life. I'm 16, by the way

EDIT: I did have dial-up a few years back but my parents stopped it because it was too expensive. I barely ever got to use it anyway, incase anyone wanted to phone my parents

Wait... what?
There was a time..... BEFORE the internet?

God that sounds awful.

Truthfully though I never really cared about the internet or what it was until about 4 years ago, when I started online gaming.

I had dial up for a very long fucking time - I'd say about all of my childhood; I mean the parts I remember :p And when I was too young to care to about the Internet, I just obsessed over toy catalogs and Matchbox/Hot Wheels collections. Put simply, it was only when I moved country did I fully realize the joys of high speed internet.

Speaking of which, remember dial up connections? THEY WERE SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
Amen. It's amazing how now I take things like youtube and fast loading for granted instead of waiting six hours for a 2 minute video :p

We didn't have a computer until I was 10, I didn't use the internet until I was about 12. That was 6(ish) years ago.

I'm 24, had access to internet between ages 15-17, then went to boarding school and had internet again from ages 19 onwards.

Books were my main source of entertainment back then, also used to watch tv a lot more (barely do that now).

I use the internet a lot but I'd rather it was less prevalent. The Internet has changed people's morality and humour for the worse in a lot of cases, people now pay more to group consensus from peopel they've never met than to social norms around them and that's a bad thing.
Definitly agree with generic gamer here :\

Of course I'd be thrown if I didn't have any internet anymore.. a large chunk of my social life is being kept alive through the tubes, since I live abroad now.

But I remember the days without it very well. We got internet at home around 1999 or 2000.

Baldur's Gate and Myst were most of what I remeber before the internet. Lego and playmobil were also with me then.

I actively try to forget my past, not always out of bad experiences, I just don't want to remember.

Life before the internet.. I was so young, that I didn't really need the whole thing. I had learned English from watching TV, and most other subjects in school were pretty much handled with common sense, and common knowledge. If I wanted to know about games, I read a magazine. If I wanted to know what's on TV, I read a magazine. If I wanted to know about anything else, I'd ask my parents.

When the internet came.. it was just a toy. Paying by the minute was expensive, and seeing as I was only allowed to use it about an hour a day, it was just an unreliable toy, almost like a gimmick, if my life was a game.

Once ADSL came however, and prices were monthly, my life was never the same. For the first year, I made sure to keep my download bandwith capped, so I'd be getting the maximum amount of movies, music and games possible. It's pretty much when I got the habit of not shutting my PC down at nights.

Yeah, I remember playing a lot of Worms Armageddon, Red Alert 2, Age of Empires 2, and I think some NFS Underground. And GTA Vice City.
Good times.
Edit: And Halo. On the Xbox with cousins.
I think it all was good times because nothing beats playing in LAN or on a console against friends. I wonder where they all went...
