The golden claw in Skyrim is the most recent in memory.

I don't know if anyone actually said "the answer is in the palm of your hand" or anything like that... but I just smacked my forehead at this when I figured it out.
The only reason I knew how to solve that was due to it being explained in the E3 preview video before the games release.

this one made me rage for a while, I admit
not because it was that easy to figure out, but rather because the damn mouse will not rotate the claw in the inventory at all
and the only way I can unlock those doors is by pretty much sticking my face on the screen and try to decipher what those damn icons are

I downloaded Magicka a few days ago, and other than the cast at target (right click) and on self (spacebar), I was unaware of other ways of using magic. Like the fairly important area effect (shift), that isnt mentioned (as far as I know...).
It is mentioned actually in the tutorial. Where they make you turn on two generators at the same time using an area electricity cast. Also know that you can cast spells on your weapon and right click without spells casts push.

Also don't cross the beams.
Oh right...I do actually remember that now you mention it. Other than the weapon cast one, how do you do that?!
Attack with your weapon (SHIFT + click, was it?) while you have spells prepared. It will put them on your weapon and your next weapon attack will release them. It's a fun way to put a straight line of mines, or make a straight forcefield.

I've had this at some point in pretty much every Final Fantasy game I've ever played. I also always manage to somehow ignore some incredibly important detail whenever I play a strategy game like Super Robot Taisen, "So you want me to HEAL my units, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh".

Well, in the first Silent Hill, Dahlia Gellespie said "Use the Flauros on darkness!" or whatever, and that just made her sound crazy (which she was). She could have at least lied and said "If you use this magical Triforce thingy around a teenage girl somewhere nearby, it will show you where your daughter is!" or something like that. It would have actually given me a reason to hate her and make the game a story that isn't TOTALLY nonexistent until the last area.

In KOTOR 2, there is a part where they force you to fight as Atton Rand, but I had never levelled him up, as I didn't like him and hadn't been told that all companions needed to be levelled.
Oh yeah. It took me forever to figure out I all I had to do was hide behind the bar and shoot them. That had me raging for a good bit.

There was a moment in Phantom Hourglass when I was supposed to put out two candles in order to get into the dungeon. I tried using my only item, the boomerang, in every way I can think of, before looking online and seeing that I had to actually blow into the DS microphone that no other game has ever used so I didn't even know that the DS had a microphone.
the part that got me was where you were supposed to "stamp" your map by closing the system and put it into suspend mode. I knew Phantom Hourglass was showcasing the DS's features, so the blowing part didn't halt me. I had no idea that closing the DS was a feature.

Funny story, after I gave up on that part, I closed the DS and looked up a FAQ, because it was getting retarded. Needless to say, I ended up clearing that puzzle by giving up on it.

Batman: Arkham City

I only found this out a couple of days ago because of a comment on a message board, it never tells you this in the game.

Those who've played the game knows Batman has a new "slide" feature in AC; you tap crouch while sprinting and Batman can slide under particularly small openings on the ground. However this can also be used to SLIDE STRAIGHT THROUGH VENTS ON THE WALL as an alternative to spending 7 seconds or so trying to pry it open.

VERY useful in predator scenarios and a time saver, although the noise does alert any guards that are close-by.

This.

Those doors took me forever to figure out. I eventually realised the combination is on the claws, but only after I completed the main quest (that's about 3 doors not including ones I did in side quests) and I decided to clear out my inventory and spun the claw around.

Beyond Good & Evil.

The pass code on the bottom of Pey'g's boots. For those of you who haven't played it, it's the same as the claw keys in Skyrim. Expects you to use a function that the player might not even know about and is never used anywhere else.

Phantom Hourglass.

Trying to get the Salvage Arm. Guy charging ridiculous price for the mount for my boat. Apparently I need to yell into the microphone really loud to show him how badly I want the damn thing. First I just blow into the microphone (as the loud rushing air is usually read as a loud noise). The guy basically says that was awful.

"Okay. Aaaaaaaaa..."
-Awful
"...? AAAAAAAAAAAaaaa...."
-Awful
"..." *Goes into basement, locks door*
"AAAAJKLBGSLKJBGSDBGVLSVKAVGFFD!"
-Awful
"What the fuck?!"
-Awful

So I spend the next ten minutes screaming my lungs out so I can actually get an affordable price for this fucking Salvage Arm. Finally I get it to somewhere I can afford, though it was all of my money. Then the guy more-or-less says something like this:

"Well I heard you that time, but any gentleman with some class knows all he need do is snap his fingers."

Wut.

If you ever play League of Legends, this is a huge issue. Not because the game doesn't tell you things, but because your teammates might not.

Friend:"Uh, Vayne is missing."
Me: "Yeah, that's because she killing me, thanks for the heads up!"

Except the journal on the bandit that had the claw has the "the answer is in the palm if your hand" hint.

90% of Final Fantasy XIII's plot. If you read the Datalog, the story starts to add up, but every time the Datalog sheds light on a character or plot point I can't help but wonder: "Why didn't they just tell me that in those overblown cutscenes?"

LMAO I understand your feelings. Though I liked the puzzles in Skyrim, because even if it took you forever to figure out it always made sense in the end.

Unlike Phantom Hourglass, when after you finally unlock something the characters are all "Oh why didn't you try [completely off-the-wall thing nobody in his right mind would ever try]?"

I remember in the first Vietnam mission in Black Ops, where you were supposed to work your way downhill and knife the barrels and push them into the trenches; I somehow missed when it said I needed to do that so I spent over an hour fighting people on that hill, getting increasingly frustrated until I happened to wander over to a barrel and noticed the "use" key pop up.

I almost stopped playing the game right there. Almost.

yea, I did that too, still felt cheap though, I'd meant to beat the game fairly, even if it wasn't fair to me.
OT: just remembered, final fantasy x, Why would they put something awesome like Anima in, and never warn you about the destruction spheres????
