Here was me thinking that England and America were getting on like a house on fire these days... and then I read this comment on a YouTube video from a so called 'Proud' American "***** shut up! FUUUUCK england! fuck your shitty wig wearing army too! fuck off this is an AMERICAN video for AMERICANS not tea loving punk bitches!"

Now maybe this is me being ignorant as I live in here, but is this what you (by you I mean people reading this thread who are American) really think of us? Or just some dipshit troll on a YouTube video.

There were also a lot more comments similar to his and not a lot of Americans stepping in to correct him...

Never, ever, ever lump us in with wastes of oxygen like that tool.

Trust me, the only reason a lot of people out of the country hate Americans is because over here, the worst people are just the loudest.

Also, it's kind of the "rule of dealing with trolls". They aren't stepping in to correct him because he's a waste of everyone's time.

Shitty wig-wearing army? What the hell? 0.o

But yeah, nobody correcting him because you shouldn't feed the trolls.

I'm tempted to say the commenter is a troll, but more likely it's just tongue-in-cheek banter in the vein of Team America [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce8CgJRkr_I]. I'm sure there's an "English" equivalent calling us out for shooting first and asking questions later, wearing cowboy hats and riding horses to work on gold plated hummers, and calling rugby "football" and football "soccer", posh british accent optional. It's that special kind of over-the-top stereotyping that makes comics like this funny:

Don't go popping your monocle over things like this ya tea sippin', scone scarfing, bowler hat wearing, easily sunburned, bad teethed limey.

You not only read Youtube comments, but actually take them seriously? You must be new.

Unless i'm mistaken, and i'm no expert, British Redcoat soldiers used to wear white wigs (like lawyers) in formal uniform.

This really sums up my thoughts of America. As a Brit, I am well aware that the majority of Americans are decent people, but it doesn't seem that way on the internet.

That I don't understand. I know the red coats were meant to hide signs of bleeding, but what were the wigs meant to hide? Errant bird dropping?

I'm not even North American and I can tell that's just some guy (along with a few others) who is just expressing his bigotry and xenophobia. It's the same kind of people who think all hispanics are brown skinned burrito eaters who do nothing in their lives.

No. I've been curious about what the yanks think of us limey's for a while and that prompted me to make a thread about it

So often, the worst of our communities are the most vocal. The worst of the Americans stereotype us as tea-drinking, crumpet-munching, wig-wearing land grabbing morons. The worst of the British are just really, unbelievably stupid. It's ironic that they call us land-grabbing, though, as the US Army has more fire bases in more countries than we do, and more things to make more things explode. You can say peace is having a bigger stick than the other guy, but I think it's throwing yours away and persuading him to do the same.

IDK about that, but I think it refers to the Palce Guard, who wear big, black furry hats (bearskins) that look a bit like wigs.

Interestingly enough they got those from looting the bodies of Napoleon's armies originally.

You can't lump all Americans together. They're all individuals with individual opinions.

I jokingly make light quips at you Brit's but on the whole I think England just like any other country has it's agreeable moderates, the quirky extremists, the detestable nationalists, and the lovably insane. So I quite like England, except you spell color wrong.[/troll]

I also think you have great food. But that might just be me.

Off topic but does England have as many America haters as the internet makes it seem? Because whenever I'm on the interwebz I feel like everyone and their mother's cat hates America. Makes it awkward to be a proud American...

@Gottesstrafe That comic is nearly very very awesome, though the whole Czechoslovakia thing at the beginning of WW2 was quite a big thing and needs recognition... Not a proud moment for us in the UK.

We think that way of you, just like you think we're greedy, gun-waving, bible-bashing, warmongering, idiotic lard-ass shee-ople.

Which, by the way, are all descriptive terms Ive personally heard Europeans use while describing Americans on the internet.

Sturgeons law - 90% of everything is shit - applies as much (if not more so) to people than it does to anything else.
Remember that.

.... Seriously though, do you people EVER visit the dentist? For the love of the Queen, LEARN TO BRUSH!

The wigs and the colour of the uniform weren't to hide anything, they were just to look good. Wigs were very very popular in England in the 17th and 18th centuries - I think they went out of fashion because of a tax on wigs; our barristers and judges still wear wigs.

Possibly but it would be rather a coincidence that redcoats actually wore wigs.

We don't hate America at all, we do get a little tired of americans thinking that america is the centre of the universe though (which often makes you guys the butt of jokes). Though thats understandable I guess when you have to large oceans either side.

The internet is an easy forum for people too stupid to get their idiotic opinions heard elsewhere, so the trolls have the loudest voices. Im a proud Englishman. I positively adore Americans, and it really makes me annoyed when i see a trolling Brit say foolish things about America on youtube. Its just as offensive as reading it the other way around. Its..Really best not to feed the trolls, as often as people have said it.

By the way, redcoat soldiers didn't wear white wigs. The hair was grown long, queued and powdered white. It was done just to look neat and impressive, but it was a haven for lice, which is why officers shaved their heads and bought wigs to wear, so they could take them off to wash them.
