No - he's claiming to be patriotic about Britain - yet he doesn't hail from Britain he'll hail from a particular country all of which have different stereotypes.

I hate it when people think Britain is a single country and when they say 'a British accent'. Theres no such thing. It pisses me off so much.
This.

It's really, really fucking annoying. There is no such thing as a British accent. There's umbrella accents such as Welsh, Scottish, English and Irish, but even they don't exist, because there are literally hundreds (possibly thousands) of regional accents.

Britain is good, but getting worse thanks to various reasons. I want to move to Sweden or some other decent country.

I think many of the complaints people level against any nationality can be found everywhere else too. No matter where you go, humans are humans and act like it.

People often have an unrealistically optimistic view of other places. When you go on holiday, it looks great: but that's because no-one goes on tourist trips to the miserable shithole areas, and people seem happy because you're paying them good money for good service. When you live somewhere you experience the warts as well, you generally find just as many people and things you like or hate.

Personally, I quite like Britain. Plenty going on, plenty of people to speak to, and if you do want to get away, most of Europe is a very short trip. I even like a bit of rain now and again.

I have to admit that I'm proud of Scotlands stereotype, makes us seem incredibly badass (Which is true)

Interestingly enough - http://geography.about.com/od/politicalgeography/a/englandnot.htm

I'd read the equivalent of point 7 before but the rest was new to me. Also, I'm not a big fan of Britain, far too frustrating a place to live (though I'm sure everywhere is in some sense).
Wow - that is interesting, thanks for sharing, I didn't know that.

Regardless - there are clearly massive differences between the countries that make up Britain and if we are going to talk stereotypes you have to talk different countries.

I live in London, so the truth is I know very little of the country. What I have seen though is pretty fucking grim.

Sweden is responsible for the Gothenber Death Metal circuit. I mean, you gave us Opeth and Arch Enemy. Don't hate on Sweden too bad.

My only problem with our country is that most people seem to think that British = English.

Yeah, its not like there's any Scottish, Welsh or Island dwellers around here...

You missed out the Welsh.
Someone can easily be British, but if they are British they cannot in fact really be Irish. Britain generally refers to the main body of land and includes England, Scotland and Wales (and some other little islands too).
I am English and British.

I feel the Britain is perhaps slipping. The Times said a while back that the optimal population for the country is around 20 million.
London on its own has around 9 million +.

Overall though I am proud to be British. The country does need some improvement though.

I hate patriotism. In any damn country. I for one hate this country, mainly because of the people I am surrounded by. Girls with no sense of self respect, talking amongst themselves about who had sex with who on the wednesday. The plethora of thickies that don't know how to react to a film that wasn't made in the 21st Century. They can't take anything for what it is, all they listen to is R&B and complain about why men are such pigs. Their own fault for chasing penis over the weekend at a nightclub. I only feel safe when I'm in my house, or in a friend's house, knowing that outside there will be some yob ready to call his mates to jump and insult me. The only friends I have are like myself, intelligent people who actually want to work and don't question authority. Honestly, there are around 30 people in my year who have determination to work. The other 100 and something are all worried about where their drink, drugs and sex is coming from on a friday night. Seriously, maybe it is just my town, but I hate Britain.

To be more specific, I hate the time I was born. I can't begin to fathom what fuelled culture to end up like this. As soon as I have the money and the skills, I'm moving somewhere better. The weather is dull here, nobody EVER FUCKING SMILES, they all look like they're concealing a weapon and ready to embed it in your soft flesh. Honestly, the only people I am ever greeted politely by are old people, and people that I know. People here are so wrapped up in their own lives that they can't even say thank you when you hold open a door! The whole country seems to be miserable.

If you haven't guessed already...I hate Britain, and I am ashamed to be British. I'd much rather be something remotely interesting like Italian or Dutch. Sorry for the rant, but to be fair, you asked.
You know, I'm in your position as well. Sweden is... it's a fucking copy of America. Everywhere you look, American culture. Girls have so much make-up they look disgusting, and bleached blond hair. Guys walk around in baseball caps and hoodies. Everyone listens to rap (If you can even call it that nowadays, since it's no where near as good as before). I hate it here, I'm even starting to hate my own language. I'm going to America one day, and never coming back. At least in America when I complain on the culture there I'm not complaining on my own culture.
Dude, I really think it's the crowd you're hanging with. I don't know anyone who listens to rap, I know some girls that wear too much make up though, but come on, for fucks sake. That's what so called "fjortisar" do. If you're going ***** about the culture, language, etc, go to France. That's where most of modern culture in the world is from.

Grow up and you'll see that Sweden ain't that bad. Well, if you can look past Mona Sahlin and Lars Ohly that is.
And Runar Sjögaard. Although I haven't heard much from him lately... But you never know.

I lived in Britain for a few years, and my girlfriend's from Lancs. Honestly, I loved it there, great country, great people, and my sense of humour went down very well over there (Americans tend to not think me as funny). The thing is though, British people are also obsessed with utterly retarded "celebrity" culture, soap operas, and worst of all are the fucking tabloids... I've never seen a nation that consumes tabloid newspapers like Britain. Holy hell people, use some goddamn discrimination. Britain is full of people laughing at Americans for believing Fox News, while being misinformed by skewed journalism on their own government every day. Bear in mind, this is the general populace I'm talking about (which, in most countries, I'll be pretty scathing of)
I did really enjoy my years in jolly olde England, but similarly, I don't get the inherent superiority complex that's commonly exhibited.
I don't think patriotism or nationalism are helpful ideas either, or ones that should be encouraged.
Oh dear God the tabloids in this country are rediculous. The express garunteed will have a story about Princess Diana at least once a month. Most of them are so damn whimsical. Look at Jane Goody gah at first they wanted her blood then when she was dieing they acted like she was a saint the same with Micheal Jackson. Also the obssession with soaps is so silly. My father in law has a girl friend that scrounges off the state and watches the soaps all day, the once we caught here watching channel 0 which just shows adverts for virgin over and over and over again. Thats another thing the scroungers grr. I apologise for the rant, your post reminded me more of what i hate about England.

The accent - Awesome. (Even though you don't actually speak like that, I know)
Nope, there are something like 20 accents in the UK, and lots of variation among those, even though it is a tiny islan

Well, judging from stereotypes in American media... You all love scones and muffins a helluva lot. Otherwise, we don't really get much info on the nation that founded the 'states so-to-speak. You'd be surprised how our history texts depict the British, honestly. Decided not to post any of that shit as it might make me seem like a bigot.
Man, where the fuck do YOU live? Here in Texas our history classes make sure to point out America had no leg to stand on with its bitching (for those who may be unaware, the colonies HAD representation in parliament, it just couldn't vote. like all the other colonies. or puerto rico.)

Oh, but wait, of course we'd point that out, what with our confederate history and right to secede when we wish.

Fuck it. I want a burger!

Back to yon compliment-fishing Brit: I find it amusing you can't spell the name of your supposed native soil. How odd.

I'm Australian.

I don't think about Britain much. Unlikely that I'll ever go there unless someone else pays for it, because I kinda of prefer the hot weather where I am. Although I think girls with English accents are kind of hot, so maybe if I ran into enough money I'd go during the Australian winter...
I went to Australia during your winter, it was as hot as our summer:p

edit: People are complaining about the weather but we all know we love the weather just for the fact it is something to complain about:p

Well in 3000 years when we're fighting Johnny-alien you'd be able to say you were patriotic for your planet, surely?
