So I just stumbled across the first vidoc for Bungie's next game, Project: Destiny, and I must say, I'm rather intrigued. I certainly wasn't expecting to hear anything about it for another year or so, considering we only got concept art a few months back. Here's the video:

Eh, I couldn't care less to be honest.

Bungie have spent the last decade making sci-fi FPS titles where humanity faces an overwhelming alien invasion, and now they've moved on to make a sci-fi FPS where humanity faces an overwhelming alien invasion.

No thanks.

Well Bungie FPS games are made for a player that is very much not like me, ergo I do not have much hope this will be my sort of thing.

And then you add Activision into the mix, sofar only listed as a console game, and apparently it will be MMO like... a combo that I would really not want to be near.

Mmmm looks nice I suppose thats my thought other than that I have no strong feelings one way or another I dropped Halo after Halo 2 the 3rd one just didnt do anything for me and I am not a huge FPS fan tbh as I have been burnt out on the games for years so its likely I wont be getting this game. Things can change though obviously.

I like how they say completely new though er yeah in some ways in others well not really is it Bungie in story and mechanics its not really a huge departure from Halo is it at least from what is shown so far anyway, maybe its actually a 3D simulated world that puts you into the game now that would be completely new and if thats the case I will be buying.

In theory I'm interested, in that the setting sounds kind of cool. Not so fond of the multiplayer focus though; if it has a campaign that can be played in single-player, why do I need to be online if that's all I want to do? It's like Diablo III all over again. Plus, when I hear about an online co-op shooter with prominent levelling up and looting, I think of Borderlands. And then I fall asleep because Borderlands is incredibly boring. And then there's this:

Everything you do in life is more fun if you do it with your friends.

...

Having built Destiny we think it's really clear that this is the next step and in the future all games will be social in this way.

(From Eurogamer)
No. No no no no no no no NO. The first statement is just utter balls. Is quiet time reading a book by yourself improved by having friends around? Of course not, sometimes you want time to yourself. It's the same with games: most of the games I play, I want to play single-player without being bothered by other people; game time is usually me time. It's bad enough when Steam keeps popping up to tell me what my friends are playing, because I DON'T CARE. Leave me to play my games in peace. This is the next step up from that, and it's not something that appeals to me.

And no, I'm not ragging on multiplayer as a concept. It just annoys me when people include a single-player campaign when the game is clearly intended to be multiplayer. If you don't want people to play single-player, don't let them; don't let me think I'm by myself only to have some other idiot show up and start annoying me.

In brief: nothing wrong with multiplayer, but the industry's increasingly disturbing obsession with social gaming is really starting to get on my nerves.

The more Bungie denies it's an MMO, the more it looks like one, and the less I care about the game.

im gathering the sales of the latest halo games have been less than hoped and they are trying a new IP to capture the sci-fi fps crowd again.

i watched the video and honestly it would be more interesting as a tabletop rpg but thats just me
Bungie doesn't do Halo anymore, 343 Industries took over that franchise after Reach. Destiny is Bungies new project

Thoughts so far: Very hyped. Loving the art design and the music, and if they can pull off what they're trying to do then I shall do my best to persuade my friends to pick this up so we can work through it together as that seems to be the main idea.

Yes please, this time preferably with visuals that don't look like ass. And maybe tweak the combat system so its easier to pick up.

Though I wouldn't mind them going back to Marathon. That way they don't have to step out of their comfort zone.

Well from the way it's been described & from what I've seen it looks like Halo, Skyrim & Mass Effect all had a big orgy & this is the result. That's not necessarily a good thing, but i'll reserve judgement til it comes out.

Seems like they are basically making a reskinned Halo and trying to cross it with elements from more modern MMOs like TOR which have story aspects woven into them.

And as for people don' play fps games with a M+KB I say wut, there are a hell of a lot of shooters played on PC with M+KB. So as far as i'm concerned Bungie can go swivel.

Not sure. On one hand, the always online thing is a sticking point for me. Not the best connection here and I don't see why they couldn't just silently put you in a solo-instance if your connection drops or if you just want to play alone.

On the other hand, it sounds a lot like an MMO and those work decently for me, so it might not be an issue.

I don't know, I just don't know.

Well Bungie isn't catering to me as a demographic so I am not really all that interested.

I am PC player when it comes to FPS and as Jason Jones says:

We did a bunch of ambitious things on Halo deliberately to reach out to people," Jason Jones told us. "We limited players to two weapons, we gave them recharging health, we automatically saved and restored the game -- almost heretical things to first-person shooters at the time. We made the game run without a mouse and keyboard. And now nobody plays shooters the way they used to play them before Halo 'cause nobody wants to.

Sorry your product just aint for me Jason
Seems it may be coming to PC's after all.

I'm not a fan of Bungie, but this looks amazing. I'll save my real opinion until gameplay footage is released, but it looks awesome. I've seen loads of PC fanboys get upset that it's an MMO that isn't on PC, but I think it potentially could fill in that lack of MMOs for consoles.

If they pull off everything which they have implied they are going to pull off, then I'm very interested. I'm going to wait until I see a gameplay video before making my mind up. Also I'm probably going to wait to see reviews and the like before buying. But regardless, it looks pretty sweet at the moment.

I watched the whole thing, but as soon as they showed an iPhone I had seen all I needed to. The rest of video was just circlejerking.
