I have a certain distaste for a tie. When I no longer had to wear a tie at work (they removed it from the corporate dress code) I quite literally danced a jig.

I only wear one when I want to dress up, with my waistcoat, and then they're loose.

Her: Hey F*cktard why the F*ck are you wearing a tie? Only gay Sh*ts do that.
You: So I have something on hand to garrotte dumb cunts like you...

OT: To be fair. If you wear a tie without wearing a suit you will look ridiculous. Its like those guys that wear fedoras... No. Just, just, no.

but yeah it varies
Fixed it for you.

OP: To be honest, you probably just have those type of people going to your school. In Australia it's not hard to find them, even where I live. They're calling you 'gay' for wearing a tie? There's soooo many things you could call them for the shit they do. But then again, you probably don't want to bother stooping to their levels of douchebaggery.

Ties are the keys to suits. And suits make you awesome
I agree. Any man can look twice as good with a tie on. Like me:

To put it lightly, I fucking hate wearing a tie. see what I did there? I did
[sub]I didn't[/sub]

OT: Bow ties are cool. Fezzes + Bowtie = So cool it breaks the universe after the fact, then repairs it.

Okay, honestly, I'm not a fan of ties, much for the same reason as ^burningdragoon up there^. But aesthetically they can look nice, and that girl is what people around here call 'townies', 'deroes' and various other terms which essentially mean intellectually and socially immature.

I hate wearing ties. I plan on getting away without wearing one for as long as possible. They can/do look nice though and I don't think it's werid that people would want to wear them.

Had to wear a clip-on for my after-school job (good thing too, got grabbed by the throat by a customer once). But I tend to avoid them, I just can't pull off a suit without looking like a hitman.

Do I like ties and suits? Yes.

However I hate might be that guy. The guy who wears a suit all the time and seems to depend on it for confidence. If you are in a setting where people don't wear ties and you do, well then you should be mocked and expect it.

So I'm not too sympathetic to you OP, you should of expected that but if you genuienly don't care then good for you.

So my question is: What do you think about wearing ties? And do you care about people opinions when on the off chance something like what happened to me happens to you?
I think ties are awesome and wear them whenever I have an excuse to dress up a bit. Then again, I don't have to wear them. I imagine that might sour ones opinion. Also, women + ties = hotness, so I like ties on all people.

As for complainers and whiners, I continue my tradition of not giving a fuck.

Who cares? Ties are awesome.
I had a similar situation back when I went to high school. One day my friend said lets wear a tie, so we did and got much the same reaction that you did. However we stayed the course, in fact we decided to wear a tie every Thursday for the rest of the year. There was always a few fools commenting on the ties but by the end we had 30 to 40 people joining in every Thursday.

Ties are the best. I'd wear one every day if I could. Heck, I'd wear a full suit every day if I could.

Classy suit + classy tie = boss
And believe me, it does send a message.

Perhaps you could try making this point to that girl a few years down the line, when she's fishing for beaus in the gutter and you laugh at her as you drive by in your fat Mercedes or something.

I would have given that girl my worst evil look I could muster, like this here:

As for ties, I think they are quite classy and I enjoy wearing them!

Never wear one without a vest or jacket... they look gangly and awkward. Ties should be seen as part of a greater clothing set, which when done properly looks better than anything else you could wear.

I'm a great fan of formal-wear for informal occasions. I feel good because I look good and people interact much more easily with someone who has put obvious effort into not offending the senses of those around them.

Also, when I said "vest", I did NOT mean sweater-vests... those just make you look like a prick or a grandpa. Normal suit vests still make you look like a prick, but at least you are a tasteful and classy prick... and that's coming from someone who wears them often and unashamedly.

I like wearing ties with the proper clothes i.e: Long sleeved shirt, suit/waistcoat.

I don't like shirts when i wear them with a tie with them and button them up because they almost end up choking me.See I have an rather thick muscly neck and a prominent adam's apple, gets kinda annoying >.>
